This show hit different wen zoey not cryin n complaining that whole time
Teddy Knight deadass
I SWEARRRRRR
Right! I didn’t even notice she wasn’t there. Flowed so much better without her energy.
Yep the other characters have more depth and are relatable. Also extremely talented, yara shahid is talented but I think the actors in this show are just as good if not more talented.
@@daryllndemmayah4874 they need to right her character better all she do is complain n act spoiled
0:35 why is no one talking about DC Young Fly’s smooth ass entrance? 😂
I keep rewatching this clip for that, and that only
Vivek is the most harmless person on that show and I'd never call him out for cultural appropriation. He's truly just so nice and funny person lol.
"You want to take this?"
"NO no I'm going to ride shotgun on this one"
LOL
Sky is right. I would have felt far more offended by Nomi than by Vivek . I hate it when people (no matter their color) try to tell ME how to feel about my own people's struggle.
BlackAndBlueMadness it feels like the white teachers at school who make me read books on racism and if the class doesn’t get the message, they try to force it down our throats and makes us see his message about it
@@natashatides7548 They're doing the right thing. It's important to understand such a message.
@@ceterisparibus8966 - Silly...Racism can't be taught in school lol...screaming
Sis u don't even know norvwent through the struggles
@@ceterisparibus8966 that isn't the right thing nor understanding that message. That is misunderstanding it
I'm black and I'm with Aaron with this one, I don't feel they're appropriating our culture, I feel kinda flattered actually that they celebrate others besides just their own. Ana was trippin tho 🤷 drug dealing is not black culture 🤨 smh
Then we not stop making it a representation of black people.
Neither was any of the stuff they brought up. It is stereotypes
It's not celebrating, there is a massive difference, completely changing yourself to mimic other people cultures and play on stereotypes on how they act and speak is not "celebrating" it's cause of blk ppl like you why we can't have anything
Is it weird that a Cuban is talking about drug dealing being about apart of black culture 🤔🤔
Yes
She never said Cubans weren't or aren't dealing drugs, only that drugs are a part of black culture.which historically they are
Isaiah Caston okay... ‘historically’ speaking isn’t drug dealing apart of Cuban culture too?
Uptown Kido where please? Cause I defo missed that part
@@vickss9306 it is, but are we talking about Cubans?
“Damn it Rafael!!” 🤣🤣
I thought you guys were reaching a little in this episode but at the same they had some valid points too.
I agree they did. And they communicated their perspectives in an intelligent way.
Lovetta Davis right
They definitely had points. People are just being dismissive, I think, because they like Vivek.
beyonce bootle
They reached a lot.
I hate gatekeepers and Doug was being an ultimate gate keeper.
Sage Fortei doug was being harsh in some aspects of his interpretation of the situation but he WAS NOT wrong during the convo on the couch with Aaron. Doug stated that minorities sharing similar struggles should not mean that you feel entitled to each others’ culture.
Am I the only one that’s still laughing at that DC YOUNG Fly part 😂😂 0:36 and Diggy was so disappointed which made it so funny 😂😂
We just gonna act like Ana’s comment just didn’t happen. On another note I get why locks and wave caps are highly defensive in black culture because of how it’s been highly associated with gang culture and not a beauty technique until now. But other than that Vivek seems innocent. It’s kind of like toting the line of sampling and stealing someone’s flow. Acknowledge the past and add new spins to it but don’t ignore it’s roots and those before it.
William McAlpine
But even though we don't want it to, drugs is still apart of that. I'm not offended she said that.
Basically if you're black or Latino and mess around with drugs it's viewed as just part of our DNA. White or Asian people doing drugs is viewed as "recreational."
Makeda Talib but it’s kinda of hypocritical of her because she Cuban American and drugs are associated with her race too but she wouldn’t consider that apart of her culture
She told the truth

Favorite part 😅
They had a good discussion about cultural appropriation in general and I totally agree with the girls that Nomi overstepped, but saying Vivek was appropriating is a bit much. When we reach a certain age especially, our social networks determine our behaviors, and that’s all I saw is that he maybe picked up a few preferences and habits from who he hangs out with. There was no bad intention on his part at any time, so this felt like a bit of a reach to me.
I think all the points made in this episode were valid. However I think making this Viveks storyline was dumb. You mean to tell me these people have been friends with him for a year and have a problem all of a sudden 🙄
@CURLY QUEEN but he was in the friend group all along and had many of the same mannerisms. I think yes Viveks downfall is that he tries to fit wherever he goes but I still think alot of the good points on appropriation didn't apply to him.
They all started having a problem with it when Doug started getting all in his feelings about it and turned salty when he was acting blacker than him i guess.
@@stephenwhitakerii3206 bro what
@@jxjohnson6437 yeah it's true Doug came here he had a problem with Vivek. He is the arguing with them about Vivek
Chloe's blink at 1:30 kills me every time
0:52 Nomi can't believe Ana actually said it! 🤣🤣
Its already hard enough fighting against people who hate black people. Im not starting trouble with people who actually like us. Plus black culture is more than just hoop earrings and durags it's not so easily defined as this show would have u believe

עידו לם you wish you were right thats why you are seeking validation from me.
Doug was doing the most like he didn’t just join the group
But he wasn’t wrong though certain people pick and choose parts of black culture part (my culture/our culture) and sometimes they go to far I don’t know if your black but if you are when Hispanic say the n-word tell me u don’t feel sometype of way
@@jxjohnson6437 but are you genuinely offended or do you feel like you have to be offended? The N word is so mainstream and gained a different meaning yet everyone acts like it’s the end of the world when someone else uses it the same way at some point it seems like a excuse to go off and not get consequences cause we can just switch up and through in the “er” for sympathy. I honestly believe nobody is offended unless its convenient for them.
@@fireforce2951 uh yeah I’ve got genuinely offended by someone saying the word who is not black nor of African ancestry, one of my white friends said it and I checked him if you are not black you shouldn’t say the word, some Hispanic people who say the word who are from African history shouldn’t say cause it doesn’t sound right I know the history of the word and knowing the history of the word when u want to say it
@@jxjohnson6437 but do you believe every black person feels that way or are you aware that some use the history as an excuse? It’s undeniably hypocritical how we can say it so freely and still get offended when we as most say “are taking the word back and changing the meaning”. either it’s good or bad but people pick and choose how they want to feel so I’ll be skeptical.
Vivek rapping the song is my favorite scene I keep rewinding 😂
whats the name of the song
@@kamiyurl yeah. What’s the name of the song
"You hang out mostly with a black crue." So having black friends is bad?
No you're missing the point. She was trying to call out Nomi on being a hypocrite because she was judging Vivek as if she was personnally offended by what he did
BlackAndBlueMadness So why say the comment at all? Having black friends doesn’t mean you’re culturally appropriating. That was a stupid statement.
@@sagefortei9078 you're right
Well Naomi was criticizing Vivek for surrounding himself with another culture when it came to his clothes, speach pattern, and music choice, as if trying to adopt black culture. She however is literally doing the same thing in a different manner, including friend group choice
Andela Andela it’s not bad but when non black people become friends with black people they feel like they can say anything like for ex. “Slavery never existed” or say the n word or something or call black girls with box braids ghetto to their black friends like it’s not cool and will never be
I gotta say again what does the crew even know about vivek or his culture? Like how you know he don't celebrate his own shit but I digress he hangs out with yall all the damn time what do you expect him to celebrate. If you not gonna give an all access pass to another minority who literally only ever with hangs you guys what determines who gets it.
ICameforLaughs true and do they even try to get to know his culture too 🧐
Facts lime flrst of all wearing wig vaps or hoop earings ismt the only thing on our culture
Doug Really Made A Big Deal Outta Nothin In This Episode, Damn Near Every Episode He Make Every Situation Seem Like Such A Big Deal Like STFU It’s Never That Serious
Question, when is appropriation and when is appreciation?
Beacuse that conversation annoyed me
I could be very wrong but my understanding is using the culture negatively or on purpose to project an image or sell something. For instance acting stereotypically black to sell items to the black community then just completely disregarding it after. Basically using it as a tool instead of actually liking it. Or trying to claim its yours. Or partaking in sacred traditions you know your not supposed to partake in.
Then appreciation is you just generally like it and dont try to project yourself as belonging to the culture or saying its yours. For instance if you like certain cultures food and clothes just because thats what appeals to you
Nomi, you are way out of your league tangling with Shy and Jazz.🤣🤣🤣
LMBO 🤣 a DC Young lol 😂...
If the person isn't appropriating racistly I don't even care to be honest
Doug was all in his feelings this episode speaking like he was the spokesperson for black people at Hawkins. No one in the group, hell no one at the school in general, had a problem with how Vivek acted until Doug got all salty about it. He’s only been there a little while and now all of a sudden he gets the say in what they all think?!
This entire episode was stupid. I'm sick of shows trying so hard to show horn in "woke" messages that they miss the whole point and often do more harm than good.
First of all, the friend group is made up of black people, a Indian guy, a Cuban girl and a Jewish girl. So acting like no one but the black people of the group could understand what they were talking about is ridiculous.
Second of all, he was in no way appropriating. Nothing about the way he was behaving was appropriating because like Aaron said it is pop culture, but also and possibly more importantly, it was mostly just him being him. He always liked luxury brands and talked like that. And the part about the wave cap and brush are just ridiculous because black people aren't the only ones who use those techniques of styling, but also he didn't change the name or claim to invent it like with the aforementioned "boxer braids".
I'm sorry but durags write have been exclusive to black people and their styling methods for a very long time it's only now that other people have begun to wear it
@@anuhassan5596 are you sure? I'm not arguing bc I don't know for sure. But I thought that non black latinos (for example people of Puerto Rican descent) have used them for a while now.
I understand your comment and not trying to hate but braids are and were used specifically for people of color because of our hair type
@@sosoberna5995 oh definitely. I agree. I may have worded it oddly, but my point was that what he did wasn't like what's been going on with braids. He didn't try to rename the wave cap or pretend like he was the one who started it. He was just trying to do what his friends were doing.
Kyra you heard what vivik said right he said he was trying to “fit in” by doing that he was trying to do the wave check like black guys and he doesn’t even have waves 🤷🏾♀️ if you don’t get the message of this episode then stop watching
Damn Jazz and Sky dragged the hell out of Nomi 😩😂
I love Rafael !!! 😂😂😂😂
Vivek was just being himself really. I found it endearing having him rap the lyrics. What I did find offensive was what Nomi did. Telling people what they should be offended by. Its shit like this that, has lead to so many people in this generation being soft. So many things that shouldn't be offensive are now deemed offensive because some 'woke' person got up one morning and decided that this is offensive.
Edit: Then they go and tweet everyone about it. Now everyone thinks it.
As an Indian who grew up in a really diverse community with mostly black, Latino, and Indians, I can say that for me, being American/fitting in was being a part of the culture at the time, aka black culture. If you were too Indian, you were made fun of cuz Indian ppl were the outsider at the time. So now as an adult I have more black/Latino mannerisms (cuz that's the English I learned), gravitate to black and Latino music, and have many friends from those races. Not my only friends ofc, I vibe w who I vibe, not that deep😒🙄
I personally think that when america has two extremely distinct, dominant cultures, black and white culture, immigrant kids just tend to imprint onto one or the other and mix it with their own. At least, that's what I saw the Indian kids do where I grew up. Depends on wealth too. I was poorer as a kids, lived in a black/Latino neighborhood, saw what I saw on how the Indian kids adapted there. When my family got wealthier we moved out and the Indian kids in that neighborhood acted mad white🙄 I couldn't fit in w them even tho we were supposed to be the same kind. So take what you guys want from my story 🤗 I don't think there's anything wrong w respectfully participating and mixing culture.
"From the Gucci he rocks" - ah yes, that famous black-italian fashion house
Dough is making me irritated 😤
maybe it is the gluten
You and me both
The song is called “Cant Lose” by Eclip$e
The way Nomi talks reminds me so much of my teachers at school. In New York a majority of school are segregated with mainly blacks and Hispanics and when we learn about racism and history’s impact , it’s always the white teachers pushing that agenda. It’s just weird to me how they act like they know so much about it when we understand the message and don’t need non-black people to tell us how to feel/ write about it.
Dude can listen and wear whatever he wants.
0:35 ☠😆😂
DC being DC😂😂
When naomi said I failed as an all of the diaspora i lost it lmaoo that was funny
I felt it too.Nomi is crazy af
Dc youngfly sounds like chris tucker
Doug was beyond out of line
This show needs more balls. If you’re gonna talk about cultural appropriation then try to at least portray what it actually looks like? And actually do have a conversation about it? Idk lmao this episode was extra asf and didn’t say anything about anything after all.
It's funny because they tried to invalidate Doug so much. And, while Vivek didn't have ill intent, he ended up damn near telling Doug, he wasn't truly being himself.
This made me not like Doug for a minute. He was literally the only one who had a problem with Vivek and how he was acting and no one else thought that until he started putting it in their minds that he was. I thought he was just jealous of him because he was the new kid and Vivek has been around longer.
Look at sky defending her man lol
Janay Wells Sky doesn’t have a man Jazz does
Deja Atkins I know but Vivek and her are endgame
This current trend of the black community the gay community trans community etc. to define themselves as an independent tribe Means they are not part of the main tribe ... hard to have unity When a tribe trys so hard to be apart.
Thank you.
But weren't those very groups forced to be separate from society by society? LGBTQ+ members were/are hunted, killed, tortured and jailed, sometimes legally, because they are LGBTQ+. POC at one point in time were literally in Human Zoo's and where forced to perform dances for white onlookers. And in the U.S. white privilege exists at it's finest. It's hard to achieve unity when so many people, who aren't you, are against you.
LGBT members r hunted down? I live in North America, this show and the topics it covers r for a North American audience ... bad things do happen but FAR MORE good things happen ... dialogues to perpetuate victim status is not healthy. Let’s take the best from each other and make something new and unique.
@@dimitellme Also live in North America, also talking about north America, and other regions. That's why I had a "were/are" before my list. That means that in some regions what is listed happens now in other areas, but used to be common in this one.
It seems to be it wasn't about Vivek at all , it was about Doug being bored so He had to pick a non existent beef with Vivek so He can feel validated with himself . I mean Vivek seems to be a great guy so why trash him behind his back and not to speak him directly .
Appropriating? It’s appreciating! Don’t get why people have to gate keep everything
Watch the whole episode before y’all comment about what “isn’t appropriation.” It was scripted very well, especially for the generation who thinks “the struggle is over,” of the “n word doesn’t mean anything.”
P.s. if you’re not Black, and arguing this isn’t appropriation, please have several seats. Only the culture in-question can determine offense. It’s no different then telling someone Japanese to Not be offended by the trademark scandal of “Kimono.” Who are you to tell someone they’re shouldn’t be offended ✌🏾
What does the n word mean?
"Drug that he deal" 😂😂😂😢😢😭😭
Isn't Gucci Italian or French or something like that. And isn't claiming its black appropriating in itself.
Someone finally said it to Nomi xD
Celebrating considering it's actually his real race and he's really not Asian.... although he plays the part well. 😂😂😂😂
Is he mixed with Black?
Isnt Vivek Indian? Indians are South Asian, which is in the continent of Asia.
IndieGirl10100 Yep.
TMD-W Jordan Buhat ,the actor who plays Vivek, is Asian. He is just not Indian. Buhat is a Filipino last name.
0:35 - 0:39 “Dammit, Rafael!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Doug killed me with that
Imagine whittling your whole own culture down to rap and Gucci 😂
This my favorite episode
Damn it Raphael
What Ana said was far more offensive than anything that happened in this episode but okay
So they just gone let Ana slide
I grew up with Hispanic/Latino people in my neighborhood. They often share the same struggles and wins similar to us. I never have an issue with them "appropriating" because I don't feel like they are. Hip hop began in the Bronx with Puerto Ricans if I'm not mistaken. Hispanic and Latino people have African heritage. Next to African Americans. And Arabs. Latinos probably have the most African heritage than any other race outside of black American and African Americans. Go watch the documentary black and Latin America by PBS it's on CZcams.
Everyone can do everything they want to do .
Okay people, who let this rational guy in here??🧏♂️
The guy who plays Vivek is Filipino. And they had to make the only asian character in the show the one that's awkward and can't get any of the girls? For a show that tries to be woke, it should do better.
I really love the twins
I didn’t even realize Zoey was missing. Went smoother without her energy.
Isn't appropriating when the majority takes from the minority, pretend they created it and make money off of it? This guy was just rapping along with a song.
Also he was just wearing clothes belonging to a company made by a black guy, how is that appropiating?
Celebrating 🥳 cause who cares! He’s having fun! I mean it’s college for heaven sakes!😎🙄
Vivek questionable. But don't drag Nomi into this mess.
Nomi is suck up jew girl
They should've dragged ana and nomi because they both should've stayed quiet
I don't really even think cultural appropriation is a thing lol. It's cultural appreciation. Unless you are trying to pass off certain things from another culture as things from your own culture, that's completely different. What's next? Should Asian people not eat at Mexican restaurants? Secondly, the show presented a double standard here. They said somehow cultural appropriation (if you believe it is a thing is more wrong when it comes from white people than other people. Vivek is not black, so he should have been condemned according to their definition of cultural appropriation in the same method as when a white person did it.
