A lot to break down in this one, Marlon and Font both showed a lot of techniques that needed explaining. Also, shout out to Jose Aldo.
Hey Weasel, you re the biggest ALDO fan đđđ
Great card đ
Hey Weasle you break down the Taylor v Serrano fight see who really one đ
Chito Vera reminds me of a more technical Vicente Luque. Fights like a terminator
Nobody loves Aldo more than Weasle lol
Just off of this performance Aldo deserves a title shot đ
Thatâs still better math than giving Conor shot after shot⊠lol
He deserves a title shot for sure. Yan got his chance , Either Tj or Aldo should be Aljamain's next opponent. That being said, I would personally want a legend not some steroids cheater to be the next champion.
@@numbconsumer1392 plus Aldo just beat munhoz and font. Tj lost to cory a year ago. Aldo deserves it
@@numbconsumer1392 you donât think Aldoâs new found skill and revamp at 135 has nothing to do with steroids? My first thought when I heard he was moving down and doing well, was that heâs on steroidâs.
L
It's honestly crazy how much Chito has improved since entering the UFC
He's a real student of the game. Love to hear his interviews and how deep he will dig into the history and thought process of fights and fighters
He's like a completely different fighter. Shows how strong his mental is to get here.
@@TheWeasleMMA I love Chito's style, but is there any way that giving up rounds like that and counting on opportunistic strikes would give him any shot against the top of the division? I see him as a very good fighter, but Yan, Cory, TJ, Aljo- those guys all seem too good. Even Aldo and Cruz maybe too. And I'm not trying to hate on Chito at all, super entertaining fighter.
I had it 2-2 going into the final round. Am I the only one???
he is the oliveira of the bantamweight division
Font had the volume but man, Vera was something else, always able to find those late round shots to knockdown Rob. What I don t understand is how he looked so clean after this many shots. Over 200 punches and no bleeding, while Rob looked like he s been through a war. Overall, what a great fight!
Chito had a great guard throughout the whole fight, the way he was blocking most strikes was absolutely class
@@hadleejackson6284 yeah he was on point! A bit like yan with the guard
His blocking is world class
Cheeto makes a new category, insignificant strikes.
His last fight same thing, he looks to be made of wood.
Because the UFC count strikes landed even if they were blocked for some reason. Same goes for checked kicks
Chito looked like he could have gone another 5 rounds easily.... He didn't look even a little bit tired at the end. Super impressive performance.
Dude has insane cardio, he might well be a true 5 round fighter.
My friend trained for 7 months of Muay Thai and fight his first amateur fight, 3 rounds, 3 minute per round, and damn he was so gassed and tired and got sore for the next two days. Now I can't imagine how insanely fit those guys who fight for 25 minutes high volume fight.
@@fern6498 maybe your buddy overtrained. Also it was his first fight. Nerves and many factors play into that
Which is crazy, cause he was eating body shots that whole fight too
@@sabastjanadams1829 yeah that's a good point. He took some solid body shots when he shelled up
It's crazy to think where Vera and O'malley were when they fought, and where they are now. Vera's built himself into a bigger star by actually fighting good fighters and rising to be a title contender, while O'malley complains about money and is more focused on where he's placed on a ppv card than the quality of opponents he's facing
Definitely not a bigger star lol but yes heâs much closer to a title shot and has fought tougher competition. I think Sean will get there too and it would be nice to see a rematch between them. Chito just keeps getting better đ„
For MMA fans Chito the star, for casuals its Sean.

Can we give Rob Font his respect for how tough he is. Everytime he got dropped were fight ending type of knockdowns. This man gave it his all until the final bell. RESPECT.
Sure, as long as we give Chito the respect he deserves as well.
@@Strype13 lol there is always that one guy
@@Strype13 you're that guy
@@HeyAveon Am I really the only guy wanting to give both fighters the respect they deserve, after a hard-fought war like that? I didn't realize I would be taking such a radicalist point of view with that comment.
100 percent cuz u hit the nail on the head
rob font has gotten rocked 9 out of 10 rounds in the last two fights
Wanted Font to win but after seein his chin in the Aldo fight I kinda figured it would be an issue this fight to..feel like that man has no chin
Also a lot of them in the last 30 seconds as well.
Heâd never been dropped until the Aldo fight, now heâs been dropped 5 times in his last 2 fights
@@skinnyeatin96 no chin? Dude took a knee while ducking. A hook kick. Clean left hooks and a side kick to the chin and fought 5 rounds. You sound stupid. Anyone can get hurt with big shots and aldo and chito are big hitters
@@Eh-zh4ly its almost like he got hit with clean shots his last fights by people who are big hitters. Dude what do you expect if you get hit clean yall sound dumb. You wouldnt survive one knee let alone ducking into one and last for 5 rounds while taking big shots
I couldnt believeeee the difference in damage between the 2, when chito got outstruck like 2 to 1. Shows why you cant judge a fight by strike numbers alone. 30 shots shouldnt beat 10 when the 10 broke your whole face.
Exactly
shades of dillashaw vs sandhagen
10 years ago the judges might have given Font the win based on strikes landed. Thank God judging has drastically improved since then.
@@boyifyoudonttt yupp!
Chitos defence was insane hardly got touched clean, so impressive
Exactly. Got hit with 200+ strikes but barely scratched him.
@@skipperad007 yeah 200 strikes which half of it were blocked

Yes. I kept watching and thinking he looked like the old Mask movie. From 1985. Had Cher in it.
@@ThayneJiutsu yeh but wasnât as bad as that. That was frightening
Reminded me of Rocky Dennis in family guy
That was impressive. Chito is finally putting his skills together
It feels like he might have another level he can reach. If he tightens up his punching and cleans up his ground and pound, then he will be a dangerous finisher
Also 5 rounds makes him more dangerous. Some fighters are better 5 rounders.
Not really, Rob just isn't that good. I guarantee if Chito fights anybody in the top 5 above him, he won't even be competitive.
Rob font really went down the pecking order in a matter of two fights. He definitely was competitive in this fight but UFC generally sees wins and losses and in their books, he went from arguable title shot to a 2 fight skid
Bro he beat Cody Garbrandt literally nobody else of notoriety
@@benperez8291 his technical boxing is good and he's got those lunchbox hands, but yea, he hasn't beaten any huge names yet
@@benperez8291 If you can't KO Cody you can't KO anyone. Rob is actually a pretty great fighter, but with no power the fight ends up becoming a statistics problem. At some point if the fight goes on he's going to get rocked if he can't rock his opponent.
yeah, agree with you. I think maybe more elbows a la Kattar would help him a lot. On the first round he really used his distance really well, so that + nasty elbows could be really good imo
Idk if I agree. Now sure maybe font from this moment will just slip and go on this huge streak but in terms of where heâs at right now, he lost twice in a row and to two top guys and they were competitive fights. I mean gaethje came in to the organization and was immediately in main events and he had a fight of the night with Michael Johnson, and then lost two fight of the night, one fight of the year in a row by being finished to Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, but that two fight skid didnât diminish him in the eyes of many or even the ufc. Sure he wasnât gonna be on the main event after losing those fights but he certainly wasnât on the edge of being cut or thrown back to the prelims fighting tomato cans and in gaethjes case he had only beaten one guy in the ufc. Itâs the same with chandler. He won one fight since coming into the ufc, and lost two competitive fights with olivera and gaethje and now heâs about to fight Tony Ferguson and whether he wins or loses that fight, right now where he stands at a two fight skid heâs still in great standing with the ufc and heâs in no danger of being cut or losing money or anything. I think the whole wins and losses and the black and white way it goes in terms of peoples opinions rather then looking at the actual manner these guys are losing these fights comes from the casual fan base and not the ufc or more hardcore fan base.
I started realizing the potential in taekwondo kicks from Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov's fights, especially they are both very good grapplers, so when their opponents drop back their hips to defend takedowns they expose their heads for the kicks, and vice versa, when they lean back with their heads to evade the high kicks they expose their hips for the takedowns.
I believe that the combination of taekwondo kicks and wrestling might be the new eras new unsolved question
Those two show a great traditional striking background in MMA. TKD by itself isn't effective but when you combine it with other arts, it's insanely lethal.
Been waiting for someone to cover a recap on this event. Postfight shows/recaps are lacking these days...
Weasels never disappoint
Solid performance for Chito, but I think, as Jason Perillo said afterwards, he needs to be more active throughout the earlier rounds.
If he didn't hurt Font with the knee and the late shots in the second and third, he could've lost those rounds on points.
It's a risky way to fight in general in these close fights.
No question he won this fight, but I don't think he can rely on his opponents getting caught /more tired by the end of each round. Yan, Sandhagen and even Merab would give Chito a great challenge.
Looking forward to his next one!
I think he can beat Sandhagen. He can deal with better strikers by outlasting them. But wrestlers could be kryptonite.
@@alexandrostheodorou8387 Cory would be a tricky fight because unlike Font, he has great defence.
I don't think chito is ready for sandhagen or yan. Their cardio is too good for his gameplan of tiring you out
@@disturbed157 yeah, but the "problem" is. Tj, Sandhagen and Yan are the only ones in the top, that he hasn't fought.
@@theguvnor3880 I disagree Coryâs defence isnât very good but Cory is way more technical than Font and is faster and more diverse I think he kind of dismantles Chito on the feet

Chito rigged the fight. He deliberately did not finish the fight and carried Font to the scorecards. Chito is great on the ground and Font is weak. No reason for Chito not to follow Font to the ground for the finish. The 4th round was so suspicious after the knock down.

Half of the fonts punches were blocked or parried and yes half landed but they were all rabbit punches, chito did the most damage. So guys should stop saying its a robbery
You know that rabbit punches are illegal punches to the back of the head, right?
What you are saying doesn't really make any sense.
Are you talking about "arm punches"?
Who the hell said robbery? In what world would anyone think Font won? I dont think ive seen anyone thinking font won and if they say that, they prob just saw the numbers without watching the fight

I loved Rob Fonts body shots and upper cuts. Chito did a great knee that landed so perfectly to the head of Rob. It changed the fight. Plus i loved seeing a side kick to the upper neck face area. You can just slide sideways into it and pull it straight back. Its my favorite kick ever.
It landed perfectly because Rob has such bad defense and fight IQ that he dipped his head straight into it when it was obvious it was coming lol. Rob never should have been in the top 5 to begin with.

3 KNOCK DOWNS in 3 CONSECUTIVE ROUNDSđ€Ż. This is the best fight of 2022 so far. No doubt. Excellent back and forth. Rob started so well in the opening rounds but man, even after absorbing more strikes than hit, Chito looked fresh and clean and battered Font. Literally changed his face. What a performance đ„đ
Chito is reaching his prime for sure. Like he said at the end of the fight, his mind is finally catching up to his body, heâs a force to be reckoned with in that weight class. I could see him getting outwrestled by the likes of a TJ, or Aljemain but hopefully we will find out soon enough.
That's my main worry, his wrestling đ„ haven't seen any wrestling out of Vera
As long as he doesn't get stuck in a body triangle again he has good jujitsu. I was honestly surprised he got trapped like that when fighting Jose.

After you break it down I appreciate this even more. Vera is amazing as are your insights.
Vera Has became one of my favorite fighters. He is so gritty in his technique And the way he fights. Love the elbows He uses them better than almost anybody other than Tony Ferguson
Chito's performance was badass. Really good defense and a variety in striking techniques that overwhelmed Font towards the end of the rounds. I didn't notice how close that one uppercut came though. As impressive as Chito's chin is, I don't think that he would have been able to stay conscious after taking something like that flush on the chin while ducking into it.
Chito got hit a bunch of times, he barely blocked anything. Heâs just one tough ass guy
@@Chadius_Thundercock Watch the fight again, you NPC.

@@caspar_gomez I have a feeling Chito bet on himself to win by decision, hence why he didn't follow up on a finish when he could have. Sounds a bit strange since Chito seems the type of guy who'll want to finish every fight, but its one of the few reasonable explanations.
@@madgavin7568 that would be insane but I love a good conspiracy
I just think that they mentioned it, because you never know how the judges will score it.
Font was landing the most strikes in rounds 2-3 until he got caught late. And the commentators made it a point, that you never know if the late damage is enough to score it for Chito. Imo it was, but even Jason Perillo was disappointed in Chito for not going for the finish, when he had him hurt.

Your Taekwondo knowledge is super high I was impressed Weasle! From a second dan black belt!
This looked the same as the Aldo fight as Font was winning 80% of time, but getting hurt in big moments. At this point it looks like Font has no punch resistance, even though he can survive. As a fighter, to know you can't take a shot to the head, the only thing you can do is either be a gatekeeper or retire.
What I saw in the Also fight is that Font does not have punching power. He throws out arm punches that don't do nearly the damage as the stuff he absorbs. That showed in this fight as well. Both fights he had way way more output but the fights were completely one sided going the other way.

Kudos to both fighters for this great fight, but Chito Vera just seemed to be on another level in this fight. He'll most likely be fighting for the title in a year and a half's time, and I feel like it's not a far-off possibility that he'll manage to succeed in capturing the bantamweight title.
