    I sat on one of these at a dealer, the amazing thing is its as light as a mountain bike. Feels 100lbs less than my old Ninja 250. Beginners these days are spoiled with bikes like this. Plenty of power for modern traffic and a decent amount of tech for the price. Makes me want to buy one of these 300s,even though I don't need one 😂

      @@NMa-be8ru Dude. Amazing.
      I had to ride it 6 hours home from where I bought it over some country roads. It took me around.... 30 minutes? An hour? To finally start feeling comfortable.
      She sits at 130 (80 mph) very comfortably. It'll go up to 160 (100 mph) almost on accident. Top speed I've gotten to was 180 (111 mph). I feel like I could get a bit more out of it but I don't think it would hit 200.
      It's nimble. Quick. The whole bike just feels like a brand new luxury car. It shifts so perfectly I have never felt it before. Maybe it's just because it's such a new bike.
      I just took a 15 hour road trip with a backpack. I did 160 the whole way. The bike loved every second. Admittedly it does start to make you need to stretch. Your legs will be bent quite a bit and it becomes noticeable after an hour of riding. In town you'd never feel it.
      350 km on one tank. Maybe more i never really pushed it down to the fuel light. But 15 dollars to fill up. 💪🤟
      I absolutely can't stand being in cars now. Driving them or passenger. Motorcycles are so much better it's insane.

      What do you have now I’m debating the MT-03 or Mt-07

  • @grumpysquid
    @grumpysquid Před 3 lety +40

    Versus the R3;
    The MT has no clip-on handles and the bar is set a tad higher (purposely) for a more upright , less full tuck position. Shorter gearing especially 1-2. Brakes don’t bite as much. Loves 7k+ RPM. the horn is in a strange place and takes getting used to. Yamaha reliability. Won’t break down or have high operation costs like a Duke.
    If Yamaha came out with a MT-05 they would be gaining a big following as well

    It makes me happy that the American market is getting these smaller displacement bikes for new and younger riders. I love the MT-03! Had one of these two years ago, second hand, as a beginner bike becuase it was my first "vehicle" that I was learning a manual on and for newer riders who feel pressured to get a bigger bike becuase they are afraid that this thing is underpowered and won't be as fun as you get more experienced is absolutely false. There is something that is just so satisfying about banging gears in a smaller CC engine out and tossing it through the corners. Think about it like this, the Mazda Miata caters to a different audience then say a Porsche 911 Turbo S.

    The best part of this review was explaining how to activate the launch control. Actually, my first and only street bike was a Yamaha XS400SG. This is, of course, a better bike but that size bike can do nearly anything a big honker can do. I took my bike on camping trips, day trips, commute, dates, etc....It did everything quite well. I did get rid of the fake 'Harley' bars and went more of bend like is on this bike. Besides, that? It's a great size, especially newer riders. Its fast enough, it's light enough, and cheap enough to learn and have a ball while you're doing it.

      Save those pennies. It'll be worth it. Just about any of the 300 class bikes are a hoot around town with the twins (kawi/yamaha) being especially good in that they work decently well on the highway too. And being that so many people hold onto a bigger is better mentality you can find them second hand, but virtually new, for significantly less than the MSRP. The 300/400s i think are the ultimate commuter machines. 50-60mpg if your not totally beating on them, cheap long lasting tires, regular gas, super nimble in town. If you can get over the lack of outright acceleration they're super fun.

      Buy used... I got my ninja 650 for 60% of the MSRP. 2 years old with 1100 miles on it.
      I also average around 50mpg.

      Soz man, I think the majority of us have been there at some point.
      That said, he's not wrong - it's just a fact that this bike is toward the lowest end of new motorcycle pricing in the US.
      BUT.. there's always used. This is not a new model; Yamaha have been making it a few years now, and fortunately new rider's penchant for buying brand new motorcycles for their first bike, justifying that they'll keep it forever means there's always be a crap load of beginner bikes barely ridden less than 3 years old to pick from.

    RevZilla, just started watching, really enjoying the show (even if I’m 2 years late). Do you have videos talking about long term ownership, like maintenance? I love the Ducatis but I started researching maintenance and I don’t want a bike that I have to pay for maintenance so often, that keep working not matter what I throw at it.

    I sat on a MT-03 yesterday and being 6’3 I was surprised how appropriate it is for my height. I gotta get my class 6 for my license first but plan on getting a bike 🏍 in the future. Either a MT-03 or a V-Star should be a good starter for someone like me new to riding.

    I miss my R3. Solid reliable bike that was really fun. Awesome round towner and very nimble. This bike is great for new riders, and still fun for experienced. So I expect the same for the mt series. Engines pretty tough for its size.
    I might have to reconsider adding another r3 or mt3 back to the garage.

    First time I disagree on your ranking. I’d put it above the Ducati for daily riding because of cost. Purchase price, fuel, and most importantly, tickets. LOL. Daily riding a Ducati will get expensive fast. To each their own though. This series is awesome, and I look forward to every episode.

      The old one seems more special than this one. This is just a naked sportsbike with handlebars, but the old one had a lot of torque (like double what this one has) and really different looks. I'm about to buy my first bike and the old MT-03 is really high on the list.

    Thanks for the shout out! I got to demo ride both the Z400 and Ninja 400 last weekend - I really like both, but the Ninja edged out the Z (mirrors didn’t vibrate as much). I did get a chance to throw a leg over the MT-03, and I *just* got my knees under that tank. I didn’t feel like it would be a great fit. Not terrible, but my femurs are just a little too long.

    Had me for a second with the launch mode, I’ve had a few bikes in the past, but got a 2015 R3 in July, then bought a 2023 mt-03 on Friday, I love it, light and nimble for city traffic, peppy on the highway, but not a neck breaker either. In 2004 I had a ‘94 FZR 1000, great on highway, but a whale in traffic.
