We do grow 'em big down here, lol! The middle part of the day is my favorite time to fish. I've always liked the hard lines and shade bright sun creates. I would love to get you out on the private trophy bass lake and see if we can get you a true giant!

Hey Steve, thanks for not perpetuating the myth that big bass feed up in the fall for winter. Many people think that. What they do not realize is bass are cold blooded creatures and their metabolism is directly proportional to water temps and oxygen levels. As the water warms, so does their metabolism and need to feed. Conversely, in the fall, the water temps cool along with their metabolism and need to feed. With that, they do not need fuel reserves in winter to burn to keep their temps up, or fat to insulate them from the cold. In addition, they cannot store unsaturated fat like warm blooded creatures and have only saturated fat to store for short term body maintenance. Maybe some people feel they are feeding up in fall due to lack of cover, shorter feeding windows, schooling of bait fish resulting in schooling of bass among other things that result in higher catch rates. I like your videos and find they are very helpful. Thanks

I've watched all of Doug's big bass vid multiple times, learned a lot! All my biggest bass I caught this past year were in middle of day also, including my current PB was caught in dead heat of summer, sun high in the sky. No shade close at all. She was 11 lbs 4 oz

Thanks, I had a replica done of her & it turned out awesome! My 5 biggest largmouth for 2023 was 7.4 - 8.05 - 8.6 - 9.3 - 11.4 Hopefully this year I can do as good or better. All caught in the kayak with big swimbaits mostly, couple on big worms. I've got a few smaller lakes that I found have some big girls hiding in them. Just found another new lake 2 weeks ago I actually had to cut a path to last weekend. So I'm looking forward to testing it out this week see if it has anything big lurking around? I know no one has fished this lake in years with all the overgrowth that surrounds it! Will be fun to explore regardless

I know! I should have just not worried about preparing for the tournament and took that fish to a certified scale. It was the biggest I had ever caught for sure. I was quite a few miles out into the lake though and didn't want to lose practice time. Not that it mattered, when that storm blew in I did horrible in that tournament. Lol.

The two biggest I ever caught were in the middle of the day. The biggest smallmouth was not but it probably had more to do with when they kicked on the new turbines and increased the current than the time of day.
