    I looked at this car in person.it was originally a factory 318 car that was converted to a max wedge by the dealer at the buyers request. It is not in the max wedge registry as an original factory max wedge car.

      It was a good job then, look at how they replicated the firewall engine harness...extended out to the top of the fender to stay away from the huge stock exhaust manifolds (that have been replaced with fenderwell headers).

    Cool! In 1983 I was 16. I bought a 63 330 for $150. It had poly 318 and push button auto, 39000 miles. At the time it was 20 years old - seemed so old at the time. This brings back some great memories. After I sold it in 85 the next owner made a max wedge clone with a 440.

    Even if the car is not a factory Max Wedge car it is pretty cool for a few reasons:
    1. Driven strictly down the strip for 50 + years and never crashed
    2. Always garage kept
    3. The car is intact and never was gutted. You would think that this being a drag car every ounce of unnecessary weight would have been removed, leaving essentially a shell on wheels.

    • @WilliamWilliamson100
      @WilliamWilliamson100 Před 9 lety +4

      +mickfoil There are several ways to tell; on this car it has a dual master cylinder , the original ones were single; this could have been changed. The next check is the manual choke; this car doesn't have one. The original cars had a manual choke closest to the steering wheel on the left side. Some of the clones have a aftermarket choke installed, but they usually don't space it properly; on the original cars, it's 1 1/2 times the spacing between the light switch and the wiper switch. Also original cars had extra emergency cable brackets above the 3" headpipes to keep them from rubbing the pipes. You can't really tell by the vin code on these cars, but little things that people usually don't notice tell the whole story. Also, the cut-outs for the carbs in the hood are incorrect; the x bracing was cut away on the factory max wedges. Hope this helps.
