    I'm honestly curious what the point of Shadow Ball is for coverage if you're deathly afraid of Wisp Gar anyway. Return hits Psychic mons just about as hard, but you'd probably want to take the slight hit in power w/ BS as para on most all of them is huge. Obv losing the Gar switch threat sucks, but it seems like Punch offers more overall benefits if you have a decent Gar answer in back for Tar, other Lax, Aero, Skarm, Bliss, Cloyster(?), etc.

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +57

      it's to try and hit it on the switch. if they know you have it, they're not as keen on throwing it in. some teams can't afford to have lax be unable to be completely walled by gar, either. I agree it sucks to have to fit it in, though, which is part of lax's problem overall

    Normal being awful stab is the central part of it. You have to cover steel, rock and ghost (which are everywhere) in 3 remaining slots and some steel or ghost types are ground immune and ghost types are fighting immune too. So you basically need all four slots just for acceptable coverage.

      In my opinion, Sun as a whole team isn't viable. Sunny Day Charizard, and Moltres, can be very threatening when positioned well.
      Rain on the other hand, both in isolation and as a whole team style, are heavily underrated threats with a high potential for success.
      Hail probably wouldn't be good, but I've never tested it nor seen it tested.
      But to phrase it as "weather clearing" specifically, you may as well go for a dedicated Snorlax team, as it's the main mon that would benefit from getting rid of Sandstorm. I had Blastoise for the bulky water to get Rapid Spin and Rain Dance to reset the weather.

    I have been having some success using CM Blissey with Boom lax as well as Claydol. CM Blissey with tbolt/ice beam helps with the special threat pokemon like suicune, zapdos, and most notably can really drive home threatening skarm so snorlax isn't spread too far. Claydol is nice since it can come in against gengar, keeps spikes away, and helps get chip on metagross, ttar etc. The extra boom can sometimes really punch holes as well with Claydol before committing to your sweeper. Also, people don't see CM Blissey coming when you go in with a boomlax, if you manage to kill the physical threats such as ttar and metagross blissey will often sweep especially since blissey can live 1 hit from a CB aero / +1 DD ttar Or CB metagross without Explosion.

      Dugtrio, Blissey, Celebi, Aerodactyl to an extent, and the need to choose between HP Grass and HP Ice.
      If the opponent does not have a resist to Raikou, the substitute calm mind set rips through teams. But removing its checks can be hard, and nowadays evidently requires Dugtrio. It theoretically can slot in to any balance or offense team well enough on its own but offers much less utility and self-sufficiency than Zapdos to justify the slot, so it's been relegated to Special Offense Calm Mind spam as its most successful team style niche.
      It remains one of the most threatening mons in the metagame that just became a phantom threat because its specific checks became too common. That's a theme with mons like it and Heracross and Snorlax who can be infamously terrifying to deal with but, again, are stopped by common mons though few in number.

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před 11 měsíci

      It depends exactly what you mean. A good anti-sand team can be your own "sand" team, that isn't hampered by opposing sand in the first place. Sand immunity and instant recoveries accomplish that.
      Actual Rain teams are also arguably viable, and would have a great matchup into Sand. One of the big problems of Blissey is solved by Dugtrio, and Tyranitar has to come in on likely a Water type to try to re-summon sand, which is dangerous for it.

      At the point you're running Mono-Attack Snorlax like it's GSC is the point you should consider building a dedicated Snorlax team, in this case one that has Pursuit. Without Snorlax's few checks around, and yes in the absence of crits, it becomes a game-ender.

  • @ricardoludwig4787
    @ricardoludwig4787 Před 3 lety +9

    Hey, honest question from a beginner here. Why doesn't cb lax see more play? I can see how it would make it's longevity problems even worse without leftovers but since current lax has to predict so much to be effective, wouldn't it be better to at least maximize how much you get from these predictions with cb? Return/double edge, shadow ball, earthquake/focus punch and self distruct sound like it could have similar upsides to cb gross but with significantly better special defense(although it would obviously lack what meta brings with his amazing typing)

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +8

      some players have been experimenting with cb lax, yeah. no use bothering with anything other than return/double edge and selfdestruct though. the idea is to boom as quickly as possible, before you can let spikes up and/or get worn down and become unable to get one off

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před 11 měsíci

      Because Snorlax is often the only special "wall" on an offensive team, and bringing Blissey (which could provide Wish support) exacerbates certain weaknesses the team could have due to bringing them.
      Choice Band Snorlax is very strong and often unexpected; it's similar to Slaking however in that it can be switched around once the opponent knows what's up.
      A lot of players on ladder use the recommended sets for mons, and there's no standard choice band set to select. Curse Rest is easier to think about bringing, whereas a good Choice Band Snorlax team would be trickier to compose.

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před 11 měsíci

      Curse Snorlax is nigh unkillable if you don't bring its dedicated checks; last mon Snorlax cannot be phased either.
      The thing is, most people bring a check or two to it on every team, so now it seems less deadly than it really is because you're not thinking about it too hard in the builder if you're bringing a standard team.
      When you notice you don't have a real check to it is when you really feel its S Tier potential; it along with Suicune.

    • @AdumbroDeus
      @AdumbroDeus Před 11 měsíci

      @@yourdaganso you're saying that the meta was much kinder to it back in the day, that makes sense.

    • @yourdagan
      @yourdagan Před 11 měsíci

      @@AdumbroDeus Perhaps, but these days it has definitely become a lot more optimized, and that can be as simple as Focus Punch Tyranitar and Choice Band Metagross.
      Curse Snorlax is forced to choose two of Body Slam / Return, Shadow Ball, Earthquake, and even Brick Break. If it does not bring EQ or Brick Break, then it usually loses to the threats I just mentioned and more.
      Falling out of love with a mon like Curse Snorlax is finding out that you have to build around it so much and even then your success isn't guaranteed, neither with the specific mon nor team as a whole.
      After using it a lot, you're going to get tired of getting Exploded on, Focus Punch'd, and phazed.

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +8

      blissey does not get forced to softboiled easily at all. something like zapdos barely scratches it so it has a ton of free turns. it can wish to keep its teammates healthy, passing it to skarm and offsetting the free turn it gives to metagross, or it can simply wear the opposing team down. the whole point is that its access to recovery allows it to outlast pokes like meta that don't heal (as well as keeping its teammates healthy with wish). it is the complete opposite of lax in this regard.

    This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
