    In this series, we will cover topics relating to Electrostatic Discharge and Static Electricity in Manufacturing: Why it occurs, why it is a problem, best practices for avoiding static electricity, and the 101 of static control products including sensors, ionizers and more.
    The best way to not have static in your operations is to avoid it in the first place, so follow these best practices for static control:
    1. Keep product and electrical equipment away from moving air
    2. Remove carpets and rugs from your plant wherever possible
    3. Use simple grounding devices to help dissipate static charge, like an anti-static wrist strap, an esd mat, and other shielding devices
    If you still notice the effects of static electricity in your manufacturing system, you can choose from handheld meters, which are mobile devices ideal for static identification, as well as permanently installed solutions. With these devices, not only can you pinpoint your problem areas, but you can monitor those high-static areas to ensure your solutions are working properly.
    Once you pinpoint areas of high static, you can properly select one or more ionizers to dissipate the charge. Electrical ionizers generate positive and negative ions from the air and release those ions towards a charged target. Fans are sometimes incorporated on the ionizer to assist the movement of ions. Once the ions reach the target, the target naturally absorbs the ions it needs to deionize and achieve equilibrium.
    There are many types of industrial Ionizers, each with their own set of advantages.
    SMC Fan-Style Ionizer, IZF10: It’s compact, lightweight, and can treat areas up to 47 inches away. It’s available with a quiet-fan option, or a fast option that can reach the target within 1.5 seconds. It also has different alarms for high-voltage errors and a contamination detector.
    SMC Bar-Style Ionizer, IZS4: This industrial ionizer generates a curtain of ions that are effective for a distance up to 6 and a half feet. They offer models with auto-balancing sensors, a rapid ionization model, a low amplitude model for sensitive electronics, and models with remote-control capabilities. Maintenance is easy with these ionizers, as their needle cartridge is very easy to clean and replace.
    SMC's Nozzle-Style Ionizer, IZN10E: This industrial ionizer emits air-assisted ions for focused targets up to 20 inches away. The nozzle can be used manually, or with a static monitoring sensor. This could allow you to automate your ionizer, allowing it to start when the target is detected by the sensor, and stop once static is eliminated. Its cartridge can be removed without tools for easy needle cleaning or replacement, and a contamination detector is built right onto the unit.
    So, how do you choose an industrial ionizer? Well, there isn’t a right or wrong answer for everyone, but by asking yourself a few questions, you can quickly narrow your options:
    1. Consider your operations/application
    2. Consider the features you’d like your ionizer to have
    3. Consider is your budget

    been researching on how to be less static as an individual. I ended up in your static video series. I learned a lot, thank you!
    Comoared to other people in the same environment as me, I am more prone to static elictricity and I don't know if there is anything i can buy (to wear) that can help me ve less static. I always zap people when i touch them lol

    Interesting video. A few years ago I developed a system to remove static electricity. In this case it was for (repainting) plastic bumpers and the results were very promising but there was no follow-up at the time.
    Maybe the technology could be interesting for your company.

    Can we install ionizer bar in a cross/ vertical position on roller?

    • @AirlineHydraulics
      @AirlineHydraulics  Před 2 lety

      Yes! The SMC ionizer would work well with using air to help disburse the ions to the roller. If the ionizer doesn’t use air I don’t think it will work well. That is a definite benefit of the SMC ionizer.

    Hello, great video!
    is there an option for wide open spaces? We have an open office, with no carpet, but the air is really dry, and we get zapped a lot. We tried air humidifiers, but the ventilation just removes the water, so it is not a permanent solution.
    Let me know.
    Thanks.

    • @AirlineHydraulics
      @AirlineHydraulics  Před 3 lety +1

      No, the friction from drying your hands could be enough to generate a static charge. Grounding devices, like wrist and heel straps, can help to remove static electricity from workers on the floor.
