I had this debate about "cultural foods" the other day since Thanksgiving was right around the corner. This caucasian female asked me if we were serving dog and cat meat for our meal, since ofc i was asian. I asked her in my most country accent since we live out in the midwest, DON'T YALL EAT COONS AND POSUMS? And then in my asian accent, in the homeland where meat is scarce, cat and dog are fed rice, meat, vegetables, and left over food from dinner. What you feed racoon and possum, dead things? I think the reason why a lot of people are shocked at this is that most people grew up with the convenience of not preparing livestock ourselves. That's why a lot of people waste food. They don't carry the guilt of preparing the animal and cherishing every bite of it.
I think there should be a 'trigger warning' before the video. As much as expecting to be respected for one's culture, one must be also sensitive to people to whom this may come as such a shock because of the absolute lack of this concept in theirs and may actually cause some mental disturbance. I think there should be a 'trigger warning' before the video. As much as expecting to be respected for one's culture, one must be also sensitive to people to whom this may come as such a shock because of the absolute lack of this concept in theirs and may actually cause some mental disturbance. Respect must be given and taken. And so is sensitivity.
Sorry but if you eat meat then you cant be on your high horse about this. I do not get why people can claim trauma by seeing a dead bird in an egg but you can see one on the side of the road and go about your day? Not to mention you literally eat the muscle and fat of animals everyday. Y'all gotta be a bit self-aware to realise that this is no different to eating an entire prawn or squid or octopus. Just because a bird looks too cute for you to want to see it dead (which is literally what all of the meat you eat is) then i dont really get this at all.
