Trees migrate. This scientist shoots them to understand how

  • Trees move. They’ve been slowly migrating to new habitats since the last ice age. But these days, they’re having trouble keeping up with climate change, leaving park agencies and forest managers with tough decisions. The Verge Science team went into the woods with an ecophysiologist - and her shotgun - to learn how and why trees migrate, and why it matters.

Do you think we should help trees migrate or is the risk of invasive species too great?

      Consider the following:
      a. While we did not come from a Garden Of Eden, we should make Gardens Of Eden wherever we go. (Existent beings need a beneficial environment to exist in).
      b. But, not only here on this Earth, but on the Moon, Mars and elsewhere by following simple, continuous improvement methods, so that life itself from this Earth, continues on beyond this Earth.
      c. See the following copy and pastes from my files after this post.

Our national parks are wildlife sanctuaries. Why shouldn't they perform the same function for fauna and flora?
One thing is certain; nature is undaunted. Here in Michigan most roadside drainage ditch stands of cattails have already been replaced by the invasive species from Egypt; Fragmites (papyrus reeds). The "hot dogs on a stick" have been replaced by tall stands topped with feathery seed sprays (like a head of wheat). Not sure how they got from Egypt to Michigan but they obviously didn't need any help migrating!
I have noticed large swaths of forest alongside of our highways featuring nothing but dead native trees over the past decade. Whether these sites are mass die offs due to disease, natural competition, or environmental causes should be investigated.

Water generation on the Moon and/or Mars:
      a. Bombard a crater on the Moon and/or Mars with protons, (a proton being a basic Hydrogen nucleus).
      b. It might attach to any oxygen in the soil, and make a Hydroxide, (HO or OH).
      c. Further attachment of a Hydrogen proton to the Hydroxide, and water (H2O) could potentially be generated.
      d. Further generation of water molecules (H2O) and those water molecules might bind with other water molecules and make a larger drop of water.
      e. Many drops of water could eventually fill up a crater.
      * But, how to generate protons on the Moon and/or Mars ?????
Generate protons on the Moon and/or Mars:
      a. Bring Hydrogen gas (a molecule of Hydrogen gas being 2 protons and 2 electrons), to the Moon and/or Mars.
      b. Ionize the Hydrogen gas removing one of the electrons (left with 2 protons and 1 electron as an ionized molecule and a 'free' electron).
      c. The ionized Hydrogen gas is injected into the soil on the Moon and/or Mars, to possibly have the Hydrogen proton without it's electron acting like just the Hydrogen proton above. The Hydrogen proton with it's electron in the ionized gas is acting more like a carrier of the Hydrogen proton without it's electron.
Of course also then, the 2 Hydrogen protons with only 1 electron of the ionized Hydrogen gas would only need 1 oxygen atom and 1 electron (the electron possibly being pulled from the soil) to make water (H2O).
      d. The 'free' electron generated by the ionization process could either be routed to a capacitor and/or battery of the unit and/or grounded back to the soil of the Moon and/or Mars.

The leaf stems are a pretty small target at any range. Shotguns provide shot density that other firearms can't.

Shotguns shoot something like a small could of small pellets or "shot". This makes it much easier to hit small, moving targets like branches and leaves. These small pellets also loose velocity and energy pretty quickly meaning they have a pretty short range. Were you to shoot into the air with a centerfire rifle or handgun, the bullet could travel over a mile and still be potentially lethal.

@@gebeme11 I didn’t really think about velocity, that makes a lot of sense.

Instead of transplanting trees to assist them in migrating (which yeah can be heavy and difficult) why not collect seeds that they have dropped and redistribute those? You said that animals and wind usually spread the seeds, but if almost all of the animals have been hunted out or relocated, then yeah obviously the forest is not going to be able to migrate.
