    Funny to see Fidel Castro on the Ed Sullivan Show - and Sullivan called him a "fine young man" just as he did when Elvis was on his show in 1956! Imagine Fidel Castro and Elvis together, having a nice little chat together with Ed Sullivan!

    A decade back my brother decided to study in Cuba because education, health, and housing is all free there.
    He came back with doctorate and said be loved every minute he was in Cuba. During his schooling I decided to also save money and visit Cuba. We traveled all over Cuba, "non-Havana" as you would say, and it wasn't so different from many other Central and South American nations. In some places, it resembled Russia or United States.
    Put simply I think you're lying. Your facts don't match up

    • @jamesrobertson432
      @jamesrobertson432 Před 3 lety +4

      I'm happy for your brother. That's great. I'm not sure why Cuba would give free education, health and housing to people who visit there. It seems pretty unfair to people who work there and pay tax to provide all that to people from overseas. That said I don't blame your brother for going over and doing that. He would have had a great time. I wonder how high doctorates from Cuba are regarded though by employers.

    Have been to Cuba several times. When Castro made a speech, he would round up people, as many as they could find and take them to the stadium for his speeches. Sometimes they lasted more than 12 hours. I can't even imagine speaking for 5 minutes. Pierre Trudeau had many long discussions with Castro. They actually listened to each other. Wonder if Justin Trudeau will respect the man enough to go to his funeral?

    There is no comparison when it comes to the infrastructures of the US and Russia. That is not a slam because I actually like Russia. BUT, when it comes to highways, schools, universities, hospitals, airports, public services, etc., the US and western Europe are indeed much more modern. If you deny this reality, then you obviously have not traveled as you claim. So please spare me the cliche' American criticisms and I will not speak of alcoholism and low life expectancy for men.

But yes, the CIA & US Army Green Berets trained Bolivian army forces that captured him. However, the CIA & US wanted him alive -- Bolivia's President made the decision to execute him. Che, in real life, was no hero -- he personally executed with his pistol many people without a trial, and later was responsible for the executions of thousands -- many of whom were innocent.

Bulgarian women were either skinny or waterbuffaloes meaning nobody starved. Bucherest had food lines because food was sold to other countries. Castro did an interview with the NY Times which he parleyed into dictator of Cuba. Brezhnef made Castro go to Russia in winter English Russia, a Russian website has a foto of Castro in a fur looking like a drowned cat. Btw Lenin wore nice suits and owned a Rolls. There are a number of Cadilacs in Russia some of which may have been there under communism. Zil copied Lincolns and they went to the Russian communist leaders as limos. Zil cost 5 times what a Lincoln cost to make.

      Did your grandmother and Fidel stay in touch? I know that he ran a law practice with two guys for 3 years after college and it didn't work out. When he was living in America it was hard for him to find steady employment and the lack of consistent finances was one of the main reasons of divorce with his first wife. Fidel amd Gorbachev both were ex lawyers who went got law degrees. They show if you really try who knows what you can accomplish.

      No hope in war repent of murder today
      Romans 6:23
      For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

      Seek his Holy Spirit for guidance peace and purpose today
      Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today
      Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today
      John 3:16-21
      16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
      Mark 1.15
      15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
      2 Peter 3:9
      The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6
      6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

      +Tony Wood ES helped Lord Buckley when LB had trouble getting a cabaret card because of a pot bust. ES had to wear a colostomy bag because of cancer. Most who do imitations of ES do the bit where the left hand is on the hip and the right waves. If one has a colostomy and can do that without having the bag lose its seal one is at a stage that is hard to do. I had to wear one and could not do the Sullivan wave. Information on his colostomy is hard to find so I am not sure.

    Today, 16 February 2019. marks 60 years 1 month and 16 days of a brutal dictatorship in Cuba. Fidel, then Raul and now the Party appointee (Diaz Canel) took over on January 1, 1959 and are still ruling the country today, tomorrow and who knows until when.

    Sullivan could have had Castro and JFK meet privately since ES was a great yenta. Our policy is to embargo Cuba so capitalism can't get in. Opening Cuba would harm Florida's economy so the embargo continues.

    • @havanahal8942
      @havanahal8942 Před 10 lety +1

      The embargo is retaliation for Fidel nationalizing American businesses and not offering compensation. Fidel felt American firms had already been paid by the blood and sweat of the Cuban people and was not going to pay a penny more. Some say had JFK lived the embargo may have been lifted. I doubt it. Things really got complicated once Fidel fell into the Soviet orbit. Fidel is a reactionary. Once he and Raul are gone the new guard will take power and you'll see things change. It's interesting to note Cuba trades with 168 countries and our farmers sell them grain, fruit, and vegetables - albeit for cash. Cuba has a history of not paying it's bills, just ask the Soviets.

      Fidel did fly up (unannounced) to meet with Eisenhower after the coup but Ike was on the golf course. He did eventually meet with Nixon (a staunch anti-communist) and you can imagine how that went. Fidel complained later that Nixon didn't "even offer me a cup of coffee". Kennedy screwed up with the Bay of Pigs (then died too soon), Johnson was embroiled with Vietnam and civil unrest, Nixon was still fighting the cold war ... The people who should be most worried about the embargo being lifted are the resort owners around the Caribbean - Cancun, Punta Cana, Paradise Island, etc. Even though Cuba has many international hotel operators already firmly entrenched on the island, I think the influx of new capital, and tourists, will leave the rest of the Caribe a ghost town.

    That was something else. Fidel got down in the trenches & did the dirty work and was hailed by the great one himself, Ed Sullivan, who praised him to the max. What went wrong? It's obvious he had his ideals and felt they were more applicable to the nation of Cuba but we have gone cold way too long. It's time to more or less kiss & make up once & for all & understand what we thinks works for us doesn't for everyone & there's nothing wrong with it.

    You're kidding, yes? You say you've been to former Eastern Bloc nations? I live in Russia, capital nation of former Soviet Union.
    I've also been to America, multiple occasions. You have no right to say things are not great here in Russia, Eastern Europe, or Cuba. America is no better than anywhere else, no worse than anywhere else.
    Americans like yourself though still cannot differentiate between bad and different. From my observations, anything not American is bad to Americans.
