- [Synth/Ambient/Electronic/Orchestration/Score/OST] Here is the complete film score to the legendary 1984 B-Movie Horror film: "C.H.U.D." (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers) composed by Martin Cooper & David A. Hughes. This complete score was finally released on vinyl back in 2015 by Waxwork Records. For roughly 31 years an official soundtrack to this film was never released and the score material seemed almost impossible to obtain. Whats awesome about the tracks in this video is that they were all extracted and remastered from the original master tapes (meaning that these are the actual authentic tapes that were sent in to the sound editors when they placed the scores in the movie). Let me begin by saying that I couldn't thank Waxwork Records enough because this is one of my all time favorite horror synth scores (hands down!). Rolling Stone even lists this amazing score at number 33 out of 35 in their article titled: "35 Greatest Horror Soundtracks" (and I couldn't agree more). If you guys are fans of early 80's synthesizer work done by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth than you'll LOVE this score. Tracks like: "Entering The Tunnels" (Track 4), "Blood Shower!" (Track 17) & "Cityscape" (Track 18) are so symbolic to their work it's almost as if they could be apart of the scores to 1981's "Escape from New York" or 1983's "Christine". C.H.U.D. is a 1984 American science fiction horror film directed by Douglas Cheek and produced by Andrew Bonime. The title of the movie stands for: "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers" but is also referred to as: "Contamination Hazard Urban Disposal" by some characters in the film. The plot is about a NYC police officer and a shelter manager whom discover the homeless are being taken & transformed into humanoid monsters that live below the city. Through the years, C.H.U.D has gained a devoted cult following amongst B-Movie Horror fans. The film is widely referenced in pop culture to this day via The Simpsons, Archer and more. C.H.U.D. has also served as a launching pad for a bunch of iconic actors such as: John Goodman, Daniel Stern, Kim Greist, Christopher Curry, and John Heard. Both Martin Cooper & David A. Hughes were once members of the legendary British new wave group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). Upon briefly leaving the group in 1981, Cooper and Hughes composed numerous synth instrumentals. Some of these instrumentals came to the attention of Warner Bros. whom eventually hired the two to do the score for "CHUD". According to Cooper, they recorded the score at Amazon Recording Studios in Liverpool on a 'borrowed' emulator sampler synth from OMD, and a Roland SH1. He also states that this score is quite possibly one of the earliest (if not the first!) film score to use sampling techniques as the emulator used was one of the firsts in existence. Overall, this primitive synth score composed by Martin Cooper and David Hughes is a historic collage of electronic compositions that captures the seedy, grim landscape that once embodied early 1980's New York City to it's highest regard. This complete OST soundtrack score was released under Waxwork Records 2015 ('84).

I think a really eerie soundtrack is what partially defines a great horror film. This score is bone chilling.
And mysterious
The "Entering The Tunnels" cue is really cool.
This is an absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack.
This material is a relic. Thanks for taking the trouble to upload it to CZcams to share it with all of us.
I’m 28 years old now but the first time back I’m 2000 I first watched this scared the living shit out of me and the music is what’s makes it scary
Wow you first saw this in 2000? I saw it in theaters in 1984 when I was 6 I'm 44 now back . That was New York in the '80s.
I was living in Montana in 1988, an eight year kid, saw this late on night on an old VHS tape and was scared out of my mind after it was all said and done. Beautiful memories
Seen it in 1988 as an 8 year old monster movie fanatic loved it.
That scares the piss out of me
I first saw C.H.U.D. on video when I was 6 years old and never looked back. It's a 'so bad it's good' movie, but it's one you can't forget. I actually watched it last night on Prime.
underrated 80s score, and you can just see the dark city in your mind from every drop of this
"This Ain't No Disco",is my fav, thanks for the upload.
Always loved that line.
All i wanna do is meet a chud b4 i die, there was one next to me outta nowhere.
This soundtrack is haunting
this soundtrack is what ingrained the movie in me i think.
Supremely well done. So atmospheric!
@@duewhit310 this was New York back in the '80s. Capture the city very well. Some places still look the same way you did during those days Chambers Street train station the J line. The diner is still at Cleveland square I think it's much smaller now.
John Heard R.I.P
This soundtrack takes me back to the 80s I was so scared of these chud's it's not even funny but the soundtrack makes it feel so realistic it actually feels real like apocalyptic
Its such an atmosphere
I still wont walk by a dam manhole cover because of this dam movie as I saw as a 8 year old lol.
✋😬 Aye, second that...
Thanks a lot for uploading this amazing soundtrack, Anthony!! And for adding a text full of relevant information for researchers in the field of film and film music! This synth-made ost’s are incredible! Thank you again! You’ve got a new subscriber!! Cheers!!
Plus, the recording and uploading quality is excellent as well! It sounds as if it was extracted directly from a digital source (a CD) and not from an analog one (the vinyl in point), Thanks again!!
Thanks for this. Big OMD fan and had no idea Martin and Dave did a horror soundtrack. Definitely has echoes of OMD at their most foreboding (e.g. "Wheels of the Universe", "Lights Are Going Out", "Great White Silence").
Didn't realise Martin Cooper was in OMD. Brilliant soundtrack...thanks. Just got it on cd 💿
BEST SOUNDTRACK
I completely agree with you.
As a child of the 80s this movie, and maybe in much part due to the music, scared the dog shit out of me. Nice trip down memory lane.
Also, is it just me, or do the C.H.U.D.s look like the ghouls from Fallout. I think Besthesda might have gotten some inspiration from this film.
This is my favorite childhood 80s movie. Saw it in theaters at 6 years old. I own the VHS, DVD and Blu-ray I have a big movie poster in my living room, the refrigerator magnet, I have the book sequel C.H.U.D Lives(which is very faithful to this movie) and have the T-shirt.
wow!
Just finished rewatching it, and it's still great. The score really helps sell it.
I saw this in the movies in 1984 when I was 6 ; I'm 44 now. I was really hoping to see a true sequel to this movie come out; the closest we ever got to it was C.H.U.D lives. The last track on this soundtrack was never in the movie I have the VHS to DVD and the blu-ray.
If they ever make the movie again they should keep the original soundtrack it's actually a real real sounding soundtrack it gets no more realistic than the original soundtrack 👾
Hey thanks fella, never would have found this if I hadn't stumbled on it just now.i give full credit to the creators n such . U rock
Damn what an awesome soundtrack I miss those old monster movies
One of my favorites for sure. Listen to the vinyl quite often.
This ost needs a clip of John Heard saying "What ugly fuckers?"
yeah this was nice to hear. In the movie, of course I remember some of the songs, but you don't appreciate it as much since too much other noise is going on over it lol. Definitely a solid soundtrack
I'm playing the soundtrack while driving in Manhattan at 4:00 a.m. in the morning in the same neighborhood lower Manhattan Soho Chinatown area it fits perfectly.
I am amazed at the similarities in Jorja Chalmers' "Human Again" album.
These are both outstanding works of art.
"N.R.C. Must Pay" (32:17) slaps and goes on for about half an hour in the film.
Its kinda stressful
I have this album but my recording rig just doesn't cut it. Really glad to have a digital version in good quality now.
spooky and creepy
Any chance you could share the files individually with me over Google Drive / Dropbox, etc? Thanks for uploading, after finding this the other night I had to go watch it again.
A perfect soundtrack for a PSX era Survival Horror game.
I was Chained as the bear and it's chains in my nightmare
Brilliant monster movie that is CHUD
Reminds of me Castlevania soundtrack when fighting Dracula
I would like to see a reboot of this.

I think the Splatterhouse games soundtracks took some inspiration from this movie's OST.
Jumpscares at 2:20, 6:38, 10:52, 20:15, 22:14, 28:37
Experiment 1 my own powers of magic¶™
The last track at 37:34 was not in the movie. Maybe it was unused. I really wanted an on screen sequel to this movie I was disappointed when bud the chud came out.
Anyone else drive to this at night while eating White Castle?
Or listen to while farting white castle the next day. Such an atmosphere of dread & loathing.

C.h.u.d. Would have worked much better as a TV series.
There was just too much of it to pack into a single motion picture.
HBO?Showtime?
Ok
