Many people ask me whether they should invest in mutual funds or index funds? Or what is mutual funds for beginners? And what is index funds for beginners? What is the best place to set up SIP, systematic investment plan? Which is better to achieve financial freedom in India. In today's video, we talk about how the smartest people invest their money in stock market (Share market). For example, how Warren Buffett advised where and how the money should be invested after his death. This came from the book - The Little Book of Common Sense Investing Summary and top lessons (Book written by John “Jack” Bogle).
Let's first understand the difference between the index fund and a mutual fund.
The biggest difference between index funds and mutual funds is that index funds invest in a specific list of securities (such as stocks of Sensex, Nifty 50 - listed companies only), while active mutual funds invest in a changing list of securities, chosen by an investment manager.
Over a long-enough period, investors might have a better shot at achieving higher returns with an index fund. Exploring these differences in-depth reveals why.

Understanding investing involves risks, but not investing ensures our financial failure.

4:55 is the most important point in this video. Great one dude, god bless you. SIP in index funds has always give higher returns than any of the best performing MF. Also just like stock, you don't know which MF will perform best in next X years. So Index funds is the only solution for better returns every year.
I didn't completely agree with you on the same .
First Reason - India is a developing market while US is a developed market , it means in India opportunities are much higher than any developed country
Second Reason - Most of the active mutual fund charge expense ratio in between 0.3 to 0.8% because they can beat the index by huge margin of min 4-5 % . So according to common sense I can pay them few charges in order to generate better returns .
Last Reason - Charlie Mungar and Warren Buffett they both didn't invest in index fund but they advise ordinary people like us to invest in index because it's a safe bet

I have a 3 fund portfolio consisting of 33% S&P, 33% Total stock, and 33% international. I feel a need to focus on complete growth so I went 100% stocks, but does the SP500 and TSM overlap too much to make sense holding both? However I’ve been in the red for a month now. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me a nervous sad wreck. I don’t know if I should sell everything, sit and just wait but watching my portfolio of $450k dwindle away is such an eye -sore.
You might also follow a lot of other fascinating stocks across other industries. I'll advise you to work with a financial advisor who can assist you decide when is the best to buy and sell the shares or ETFs you want to acquire since you don't have to act on every forecast.
I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

I have worked with a couple of financial advisors over the past few years. First started out with a guy that worked for Bridgewaters . Same wall street rippers. I then switched to an independent advisor, Amy Jean Andersen and I won't even deny it, she's been really extraordinary.

@invest mindset - experts says index fund is better than active funds. But i can see large cap funds can beat index by great difference. For e.g. for last 10 years UTI Nifty 50 Index CAGR is 12.60%, whereas 10 year return for Mirae asset large cap is 16.74%. could you make video on this topic and guide us which one is better.
yeah it is true but without index fund if you are doing only mutual then you have to give more commision, brokerage & tax etc. that's why you earn less profit than of index fund
Agreed by your explanation, but here point is that brokerage will be around 0.7 % for mirae asset large cap, but it beat Nifty 50 by 4% difference.
When market is down then u will see lower return in active funds. It keep changes.

I am regular viewer of your channel and I watched your entire video on index mutual by the my view index fund is useless because index fund give you only you 12% return on long term investing on the other hand any small cap has give return between 15% to 20% on long-term so I think anyone who has long term horizone has small cap fund is better than index fund.
