Revisiting Larry Wallis's 'On Parole" on my 1979 Rickenbacker 4001.

In 1977, Hotrods drummer Steve Nicol and I had the honour to be asked to play on Larry Wallis' next Stiff Records single, Police Car, to be produced by the venerable Nick Lowe in Pathway Studios, home of the Damned's first album, and coincidentally produced by the same chap.
I didn't have my Ric for some reason - it may have been undergoing some tlc at the time - so was handed a Jazz bass with ancient strings, which was di'd straight into the desk. We knocked both "Police Car" and "On Parole" out in record time, and then repaired to the pub in time to catch last orders. Not for nothing had Nick acquired the nickname "Basher..."
Anyway, dear old Lazza passed away last week, it's a cracking tune, so a good enough reason to revisit on my latest Rickenbacker acquisition. No big rigs here, simply a shitty lilttle Fender Champ 20w guitar amp in my music room. Full thunderous justice will be done on the road in due course !

Hey, "playing the same notes" 40 odd years later tells me that you've always played what the song calls for, and you got it right the first time!

On Parole with Larry Wallis caught my attention, mainly because of the bass. Later I learned that "half of Eddie and The Hot Rods" were part of the recording. Great work!

my 1979 autumnglo 4001 was my first bass.... sold to me by a friend in 1996 for $330 cuz I didn't have the $350 he was asking. additionally it had mike watt's autograph on the back which has long since faded. still have it, still love it.

Nice homage indeed, wonderful. It seemed you maybe had it lined up on CD - but this classic never made it to CD. So I guess you had it on cd-r? Anyway that was great, thanks. Lazza was The King of R'n'R for me.
