To any robot watching this, it's pretty much the equivalent of a man getting skinned, had his guts ripped out and then carried around by a giant with his bowels hanging out. FUCKING BRUTAL
+MajesticClangers It's a shame in this battle that the house robots got involved. They were pretty useless at doing damage. I reckon a few more hits with hypnodisk and they would've destroyed every single component in that thing.
According to the TvTropes page that brought me here, it was nearly impossible to control even before the sheer power of its weapon started tearing itself apart the same way it does to enemies, which exacerbates the problem if it can't end the fight quickly (between the aforementioned sheer power and its severe weakness to wedges, this admittedly won't come up too much).
These fights are so weird without the editing. I mean, I knew they edited the crap out of them, but without the commentary, music or those annoying precorded audience noises it sounds so quiet.
I'm sure the editors dubbed on the sounds just to make the televised battle more exciting. But yet, it does sound rather uncanny in its original format.
I thought I liked Jonathan Pearce, but it's so much more audibly bearable without his incessant squawking, and without the music drowning out the mechanical noises, which actually really give you a better sense of how big and powerful these things are. Agree about the crowd too, what's with the half naked kid at 2:04?!
Personally, I'd prefered the commentary and music live, as they're doing with the current events. The time editing was pretty annoying too; I mean, one match was counted down to a judge's decision (not called early, which sometimes happened) after a minute and a half, when the matches are 3 minutes long.
I was so awed watching this. The quality is great for starters, but most of all I felt like I was in the studio! This is a full uneditied fight and you can hear the power of these robots! This was experiancing it through the eyes of the audience. Thank you for this! But as most have asked, how did you get this?!
Lol I can see it now- Ofcom report: "The scenes of Splinter's carcass being carried across the arena with its organs falling out have been deemed too unsettling for Antweights and Featherweights, and have been removed from the programme's broadcast".
Well you can see why they edited that one down so much. It was comical when Dead Metal obviously got his right claw completely stuck in Splinter's shredded innards and was unable to get it out, despite Killalot's best efforts. Then, once he finally gets loose, the idiot driver runs right back into the remains of Splinter again (fortunately not getting stuck again)! It was laughable watching Dead Metal slice at the pile of mangled scrap that was once Splinter like that- what're you trying to do, _do damage to it?_ Ship's already sailed on that account, bucko! And then putting it on the flipper (poorly) before pitting it- really, the fight was done with when Killalot threw the remains and it all came apart, no wonder they cut it off there on TV.
I came to this video after the battle between Supernova and Frostbite and my god, this was definitely similar to how much damage that Hypnodisc did to Splinter. I've seen Hypnodisc battle before but I didn't remember it fighting against Splinter until now. My god, that spinner looks dangerous
If I recall correctly, the Splinter team were planning to re-build Splinter anyway by this point so they let Hypno-Disc go all-out in this battle, kinda like why and how Razer thrashed Matilda in the Southern Annihilator finals.
in this more raw footage it seemed like the other dude of the splinter team told the one on controls "just drive into the main weapon, maybe it'll help" 1:12 for example
This might be an unpopular opinion but without the music and commentary this feels way more… visceral? Like the only sounds are the disc spinning up and the actual hits… without all the production and editing it feels more real somehow
Man, I really liked splinter. Just not designed to go up against a spinner, plastic wedge and all. Still, it kept fighting for a long time (firestorm, looking at you) after sustaining huge damage.
Generally, very badly. Hypno-disc once put a gash in the front of Shunt's scoop, but it was superficial, and the house robots just tend to have too much armour (even matilda) for spinners to do much damage to. The only significant damage ever done was in series 7, when Supernova ripped off one of Killalot's tracks.
The main issue is that the competitors were not allowed to do it. The house robots needed to be available for fight after fight while if a competitor lost in the original series, they were out so it was OK if the house robots trashed them. Generally, the less destructive robots (flippers, lifters and rammers) were allowed to have a go at them but the hypnodiscs of the world were not. Razer's famous destruction of Matilda in series 4 was only allowed because they were planning to rebuild her completely for Extreme 1. Even the house robot rebellion events in Extreme and series 7 tended to have much weaker competitors involved (scorpion wtf?!). Even so, they did pretty well in series 7 (which was the last ever fight recorded for the original show).
I don't like the concept of house bots. Just let the 2 competitors compete with their regulated robots, don't bring your oversized machines there to ruin the fair play.
A9132robotwars Yeah, this time... But I don't like the idea of CPZs/PPZs either. The producers or house robot drivers shouldn't get to choose how much damage to do. Note in this battle Splinter shoved HD into Dead Metal. DM brought the saw down slightly, as if pretending to try and damage HD, then just let them go.
Though I understand your point, you can't deny the house robots played a HUGE part in Robot Wars's success. Furthermore, Robot Wars without the house robots would be like American Gladiator without the show's own gladiators. At least that's my opinion though.
The problem is that 2 flip robots doing no damage on each other is very boring. They cannot damage each other and the only way for either of them to do damage is so bring it in from the outside.
hypno-disc would destroy anything on battlebots IMO, most of the best robots from robot wars would, simply because the armour of the robots from robot wars is generally made of stronger materials and the weaponry is more effective.
Although there were quite a few scary robots in Battlebots with dangerous weapons. Biohazard, Mauler 5150 and FrenZy were successful robots. I'd love to see them fight against the successful UK robots from Robot Wars. Biohazard beat Little Sister (a yellow version of Bigger Brother) in Battlebots and FrenZy smashed Panic Attack. Biohazard is like a US version of Storm II with the lifting arm.
+richard29415 It's hard to say. Hypno-Disc would've been a heavyweight on the show and it'd really depend on the draw, not to mention any modifications the team made to Hypno-Disc due to added weight as they had a lower weight than Battlebots most of the time.
Guide how to win against Hypno disc three ways. Number 1 the idiots way: Run and hope for the best. Number 2 the smart way: Don't ever have to face off against Hypno Disc Number 3 the other smart way: Answer the question, Do you still want your robot as a memory? Basically you don't there was no robot afterwards.
To any robot watching this, it's pretty much the equivalent of a man getting skinned, had his guts ripped out and then carried around by a giant with his bowels hanging out.
FUCKING BRUTAL
Hypnodisc is like some sort of robotic satan
Does that make Razer Lucifer?
I feel like razer would be more like the grim reaper
You don't fuck with hypno disk unless you're chaos 2
Hypno-Disc was the Jason Vorhees of Robot Wars
I love how all 3 house bots couldn't do the damage Hypnodisk did.
About 25% of Splinter ended up in the pit. There was hardly anywhere in the arena that wasn't covered in the remaining 75%
STOP! STOP! HE'S ALREADY DEAD!
You can't kill what's already dead
Dead Splinters: I want to eat you
Travesty that hypno disc never won a grand title.
+MajesticClangers It's a shame in this battle that the house robots got involved. They were pretty useless at doing damage. I reckon a few more hits with hypnodisk and they would've destroyed every single component in that thing.

A heck of a lot less dramatic too, which would explain why they edited it. Still could have done without those godawful crowd noises though.
I thought I liked Jonathan Pearce, but it's so much more audibly bearable without his incessant squawking, and without the music drowning out the mechanical noises, which actually really give you a better sense of how big and powerful these things are. spongebot64 Where are you getting these copeies of the fights?
You can really hear that disk powering up. Its hypnotic.
Splinter actually saved him from a house robot at the start.
Bet he regretted that.
Richard Merrick i guess splinter is more like gonna give the house robots hypnodisc instead of saving hypnodisc
The Splinter team said after the fight: "We were going to build a new one anyway. Hypnodisc have done us a favour by taking the old one apart for us!"
What else can Dead Metal and Sir Killalot do that Hypnodisc hasn't already done? Geez louise, so much destruction!
Who won?
MrBlack1968 Splinter.... really??? No, it’s Hypno-disc!!!
The fans

Splinter has the same armor as Hypnodisc. It is like he is Hypnodisc's weird cousin that never gets invited to family reunions.
You know, without the soundtrack and commentary, this kinda feels like a weird sort of horror movie.
Nice. I've never seen this footage, and it's very clear btw. Thanks.
That was less a war and more of a complete massacre.
I think he "splintered" a little.
Well you can see why they edited that one down so much. Tis was the best I have ever seen

The house robots were having a field day in this one!
Hypnodisc .bless those guys 👍
my god hypnodisk is overpowered sometimes.
That was brutal o___O
overkill
best fight of series 4 ever!
A lot of work went into these robots, a bit unsporting to trash them after they've been immobilised.
If I recall correctly, the Splinter team were planning to re-build Splinter anyway by this point so they let Hypno-Disc go all-out in this battle, kinda like why and how Razer thrashed Matilda in the Southern Annihilator finals.
That would make for a boring match
But it's good telly
Where'd you get this footage? I've seen raw stuff like this for BatleBots but not Robot Wars
This, and the other videos, were from the 'Cut your own battle' section of the Ultimate Warriors collection.
+MudnuK
The "Cut your own Battle" section of the Hypno-Disc DVD.
Actually, you don't hear much of the scream of Hypnodisc's weapon motor in this match. It's drowned out by Killalot's engine and hydralic pumps.
Looks like Sir killalot and Dead metal are doing a tug of war
Dat flywheel.
in this more raw footage it seemed like the other dude of the splinter team told the one on controls "just drive into the main weapon, maybe it'll help" 1:12 for example
Wonder why the last minute wasn't broadcast. Splinter being carried around with its entrails hanging out was pretty brutal and cool.
Time constraints. There were 6 matches and pre and post match interviews on this programme
Like the Honda Robot? I presume he didn't want to see fellow robots being forced to rip each others circuits out.
What a fight...
This might be an unpopular opinion but without the music and commentary this feels way more… visceral? Like the only sounds are the disc spinning up and the actual hits… without all the production and editing it feels more real somehow
1:01 omae wa mou shindeiru
Rocky! Throw in the damn towel
great HD :-)
I liked the cover idea against the disk. Alas, it didn't hold up.
A pity that they didn't have a pop at a house robot while they feasted on Splinter(ed).
really weird hearing this without the commentator!
I don't like to see other robots get destroyed like that. Kind of upsetting to see them go
Did it go to a judge’s decision?
Man, I really liked splinter. Just not designed to go up against a spinner, plastic wedge and all. Still, it kept fighting for a long time (firestorm, looking at you) after sustaining huge damage.
awesome
dhriti manchanda have a look on this... this is what i was talking about... but on a different scale...
Robot wars guide, how to win every bet: Is one of the robots called hypnodisc or razer? That one will win.
I would love to see how well spinners fare against the house bots.
I'm not sure I agree, corkscrew managed to rip out a huge section of Matilda's "face" during the "Commonwealth Carnage" event in Extreme 2.
That is gonna so much fun 😄
The main issue is that the competitors were not allowed to do it. They only came in AFTER a robot was immobilised, so after the fair play had already happened.

Only for robots.
Having rapebots come out to trash an already broken machine seems unnecessary.
Don't like the house robots. Should be one on one
Though I understand your point, you can't deny the house robots played a HUGE part in Robot Wars's success.
Furthermore, Robot Wars without the house robots would be like American Gladiator without the show's own gladiators. At least that's my opinion though.
still a good show
The problem is that 2 flip robots doing no damage on each other is very boring. They cannot damage each other and the only way for either of them to do damage is so bring it in from the outside.
Was there ever a match where Hypnodisc got rekt?
+Bradley Case hypnodisc vs pussycat
In extreme series 1 it got pretty much picked on by other teams in the annihilator.
What where they doin at tha end?
A musica e a narração fizeram falta!
How does everyone think Hypnodisc would do on Battlebots? Also I would LOVE to see Razer come up against Hypnodisc.
hypno-disc would destroy anything on battlebots IMO, most of the best robots from robot wars would, simply because the armour of the robots from robot wars is generally made of stronger materials and the weaponry is more effective.

+TeeJayy Son of Whyachi from battlebots would probably defeat hypnodisc
Hmmm I don't know. It was quite destructive though.
+richard29415 It's hard to say. Hypno-Disc would've been a heavyweight on the show and it'd really depend on the draw, not to mention any modifications the team made to Hypno-Disc due to added weight as they had a lower weight than Battlebots most of the time.
Wait, when on earth was this recorded???
The fourth series was broadcast in early 2001, so I'd assume around 2000.
Not fucking be living that shit
Looks like a draw to me.
Lets hope the refbot is not in the new series I kinda thought the refbot kinda ruined the whole fun of the destruction.
+Amateur gamer sedgie09
It is confirmed that the only house robots that will return are Matilda, Shunt, Dead Metal and Sir Killalot.
No fire extinguishers. Have to call in the fire department then. There are rules too. That's why there are referees.
this is the best destruction that robot wars has to offer lol
a tin can jokebot gets hit twice and busts open
:(
