  • Video kept as short as possible while trying to cover every aspect of fitting the camera to your cars fuse box. By fitting the camera in this way it will go on and off with the cars ignition and keep your 12v socket free for other things.
    Video also includes some info on cameras that may be helpful regarding memory cards,res & parking modes.

    Just fitted a NextBase 322GW to my B9.5 (2020 facelift) RS4. I started using this video from PJ as reference but the further I got into the task, the more I realised that I could simply follow the steps exactly - absolutely brilliant! The fuses were on the passenger side - just like the video and I used the same bolt for the negative and the same fuse to piggy-back the positive connection. Fantastically useful. THANK YOU PJ.

    Just installed a Nextbase 612GW (on offer in Halfords at the moment at half price) into my 2018 S5. Your instructions and video made the job so easy. I took your advice and bought a trim tool set from Amazon for £3.98 which although not essential made the whole task so much easier and less stressful.. Thanks dude.

      @Warner Harress I did, so the camera does power down. I did think about using another fuse location that maintained the power when the car was shut down and locked, but as I sometimes have to leave my car for a couple of weeks without use in busy car parks (so the camera would be constantly firing up) I was worried that the constant drain on power would end up leaving my battery dead.

      @Warner Harress Yep, I was thinking that too but too much hassle at the time and I wanted to get the camera installed as I'd quoted it on my insurance policy.... let me know if you do decide to go down that route, I'd be interested to know how you get on. Cheers. H.

    Not having looked at the kit to know the position of adaptor/power box, but as you've already (wisely) changed earth terminal, would it be possible to chop out some of the excess supply cable? obviously you'd need the right size bullet connector for pos, although you could solder/heat-shrink directly to fuse cable?

    Bought a new camera and decided to hard wire it, shocked to find someone in the UK has taken the time to share this on my exact car - saved me a lot of time thanks!
    I don’t have a multimeter but have the proper fuse taps etc, mine has a parking mode so think the accessory wire will need to go to what yours is plugged into as permanent (so it knows the engine is off) and I need a second tap for power. Any suggestions in the same panel area?

      I can’t recall the exact layout as this persons car was booked in over five years ago.
      If your after an ignition switched live then try the heater blower circuit, if on the other hand you want a constant live then try the central locking circuit.
      Sorry I can’t be exact be I retired over a year ago.

    Great video. Very helpful. I am hard wiring a valentine one radar detector in my US version A5. My question is, does it matter which way you install the fuse tap? Also, if there is an open fuse spot available, I assume you only need to use one fuse in the tap? Thanks.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 6 lety +2

      Best to use a socket that already has a fuse because if you use a empty powered socket this can make the ecu think that whatever option device should use that socket is installed and can lead to dashboard warning lights. As for the fuse holder the current goes from the flat side to the side where the red cable comes out and so flows across the fuse.

    That was a brilliant video especially as this weekend I need to fit to my A5 a dash cam and was not looking forward to it. Stupid question time now, was it an error to go to the drivers side initially with the wiring or was there a reason as both the live and Earth were connected on the passenger side. Also my camera requires two lives, one switch and one permanent so any tips on that set up will be appreciated. I’m fitting a front and rear thinkware770 which I have retrieved from my previous car an A6 as it was only a few months old. Thank you again for this video it will be a god send for me.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 4 lety

      Cable was rerouted because two other electrical items were being fitted (speed cam deflector & rear cam).
      As for two live wire this is normal on models with long term parking mode.
      Select something like heater moter for switched and maybe central locking for permanent live.

    Hello thank you for the video. I have one question regarding the parking mode. If I want to have the motion sensor on when parked at home do I need to find a fuse that has power when the car is off. I was just wondering how the cam would be powered from say 8pm till 8am next morning. Thank you.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 5 lety +1

      If you wire the cam to a constant live you will end up with a flat battery so you will need a parking mode kit such as this one - www.blackvue.com/blackvue-dashcam-parking-mode/
      Scroll down to the Power magic section and have a read because the battery that is built in to most cams will only last a couple of hours when linked to a ignition switched supply.

      So it sounds like your cam has both a switched live and a constant live.
      For a permanent live try testing circuits like central locking as that’s live al the time.
      Refer to your handbook for fuse lists.

  • @tonybrogan9821
    @tonybrogan9821 Před 4 lety

    This is generally a good instructional video. But please be careful while inserting the dual fuse holder, there is a live feed (Feed side from the battery) on one side of the fuse and a fused or feed side to supply the camera on the other. If you plug the dual fuse holder in the wrong way around (red wire to the live feed) the camera will bypass the fuse and draw its supply directly from the battery, in the event of a camera or wiring fault this could be catastrophic. Always check which side of the fuse is connected to the battery feed.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 4 lety

      Spot on. In the past I did explain this on previous videos but I ended up being bombarded with two many questions.
      So as long as people plug it in the same way as shown they will be fine.

      Hi Tony, first of all thanks to PJ for posting the video. I am interested in your comment, I installed my camera approx 2yrs ago, about a yr ago I had an incident where the car wouldn't start, very odd as I do 400miles a week although this was at the end of a 2 week holiday where I hardly drove the car. Car went to Audi showing a child lock error, told "software issue", I wasn't convinced. C-19 hit and the car sat on the drive for 2 weeks untouched, started first time, drove it on a few short journeys over the next week then it did the same again. Returned to work 2 months ago, 400 miles a week, driving home 15miles in stop/start kicks in at traffic lights, car won't start, AA came out battery's flat, jump the car its shows its taking charge. Take it back to Audi they keep it over night come back saying battery's fine, probably the dashcam. Again I wasn't convince although having watched this video I changed the earth to the bolt used in the video and then read your comment about direction of fuse holder, having checked mine was facing the other way with the red lead to the bottom rather than the top. Having checked the camera definitely came on/off with ignition (regardless of which way the holder was in) . I have now switch the fuse to the way shown in the video. If I've put the fuse holder in the wrong way could this account for the flat battery I am seeing even if the camera is definitely off when I turn the ignition off, or could this have caused other electrical issues causing the battery to discharge quickly when being driven? Even if you don't reply thanks for your comment, I hoping its saved me another Friday night at the side of the road.

    • @tonybrogan9821
      @tonybrogan9821 Před 3 lety

      @@richardwithnall306 Hi Richard, the way the fuse holder is oriented will have no effect on battery drain, the problem with a wrongly oriented fuse would be; the dashcam would be drawing current directly from the battery, therefor if it developed a fault the fuse would not protect it and there could be a danger of fire. Can’t help with the starter motor problem I’m afraid, only to say that the car checks the battery condition and if it’s low on charge or faulty the stop-start system won’t engage. Have you checked the wiring to the starter relay, solenoid and starter motor? Sorry I can’t be any more help, good luck.

    Wondering if anyone has had an issue with the engine start/stop feature on Audi causing a dashcam to reboot. Everytime i stop at a traffic light and the Audi turns off the dashcam will reboot when the car starts back up. Like it's shutting off due to the dip in power. I have my dashcam power piggybacked on the Homelink fuse. Is there a better fuse position i should be using? I'm in a 2017 A4.

    Nice guide mate, love the realistic versions rather than the 200% longer American versions full of “like” and other bullshit. Anyway, you have a 512gw I bought a 522gw does yours not have a parking mode? I ask because I was too lazy plus the weather was shite to get the camera in right away. Guess what? Got paint scrubbed ... who did it? You tell me.. so my camera has parking mode, the psu - same as yours? Is designed to go to a permanent live, once parking mode is enabled the camera is on stand by, anyone goes near the car or decides to remodel the front or the rear? The camera records the lot. But it’s main feature (the hardware kit) is that it deactivates if the power in your battery gets near a point where it’ll not start. Basically, get a camera with parking mode, get this power supply and wire to permanently live. The camera is pointless if you get hit at Tesco, car park, dickhead on your street etc, no ignition means no power. Not putting your video down at all, just noticed your content didn’t mention this, cheers 🍻
