- In 2017, Ronaldo’s wage was less than that of Messi and Neymar, who had just transferred to PSG. Ronaldo had received a promise from Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Pérez, that his contract would be renewed with a salary increase after the 2017-18 season.
In that season, thanks to Ronaldo’s outstanding performances, Real Madrid won the Champions League, winning three consecutive titles. However, Pérez did not keep his promise to renew Ronaldo’s contract with a higher salary. Pérez was reluctant to pay more to Ronaldo, who was already 33 years old.
Ultimately, Ronaldo left Real Madrid and transferred to Juventus. Later, Ronaldo revealed that he was moved by the applause he received from Juventus fans after scoring a spectacular overhead kick against them in the Champions League quarter-finals during the 2017-18 season, which influenced his decision to join the club
That symbolism with the plant was a masterpiece in writing, although I hated Perez at first for the way Ronaldo left the club, I understood his point of view afterwards.
He took a gamble with the new generation and it totally paid off, he cut the old plant and grew another one that totally delivered the same if not better than the old one, he's a man of business and he has no room for sympathy when it comes to business, and I respect him for it.

And if there is one thing that is true, Cristiano should've been more humble, and understood that despite not being the most economically benefited like Messi and Neymar, he was going to be the real GOAT if he stayed in Madrid for a couple more years. But he decided to leave prematurly. And Florentino always remembered him that no one is above the shield, and the motive that the players are in Real Madrid, is not to make money, is for achive victories, make a good team, and make history as a team. And when your time is come, you need to afront it, and be humble, like Tony Kroos, Modric, Benzema. When Cristiano left Madrid, his carrer was never the same.

It took 3 years of development to transition from a subpar team to a proper European giant again. If they retained Ronaldo and developed their young talents wisely, they would maintain their status as a European giant instead being a European laughingstock and would possibly won more trophies

Since season 2013/14 to 2023/24, Madrid average transfer spending per season is -20m€. That means in seaosn, they lost 200m€ on transfers. Barcelona, in comparison, is -50m€ per season, which means 500m€ in negative in that 10 seasons. 300m€ is a lot of money.
Taking into consideration taxes and wage bills in Spain, Barcelona losses are considerably higher.
Right now, the top 3 paid players in LaLiga are: De Jong, Lewandowski, and Mbappe. Mbappe is the third... which speaks volumes.
Next is marketing money. That is a huge loss for Madrid. Cristiano IS the most popular athlete in the world. Of all sports in this world, he is #1. You can not dispute his numbers on that.
Madrid managed to get rid of the legends that were in the club with huge wage bills, sell them, or let them go. And with youngsters, they brought in build completely new starts that are the face of Madrid right now.
And did they lose on results? Well, they won 2 UCLs after Cristinao left. Squad for the future is almost set in stone, so much talent, depth, and already Madrid culture Ingraved in those boys.
