Yeah there was a lot of hard work alright, squashing the ambition, and dreams of the natives, and the formerly enslaved, and the poor. These old videos are fascinating to see, but so many people try to romantize this time period, when it was a very hostile time for so many.

He saw horses and Carts, motor cars, aeroplanes, Jets, Derigeables, the Atomic Bomb, Two World Wars, Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, Moon Landings, Gas Lights, Electricity, Vaudeville, Harry Houdini, Three Stooges, Sports Greats like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantel, Tyler Cobb (Everyone hated him although he was the best). Nickelodeons, to Silent films to 'Talkies', Radio, to Television. It's quite a bit. He said people were much more civil to each other. If he were alive today he'd say that the country is falling apart. It's worse now.

They were going to the Factory they were just walking about because they just could enjoy eachother because they did not have a phone in their face or they were going to go start a street riot over a black guy walking on the same street as them
What people today don't realize is the stench of the cities then. There were THOUSANDS of horses producing tons of manure. In the summer, the smell was everywhere. When it rained, the manure could be spread around for people, horses, and wheels to spread it even farther. THAT was one of the main reasons why city people wanted to get out to the country --- fresh air with no smells. I once saw an early 20's truck and tilt-bed trailer with a winch whose purpose was to remove dead horses from the streets of a city, a job I had never thought of. This is what my grandfather came into as he was born in NYC in 1903.

This is an interesting time in history for transportation. Buses that were horse drawn were slowly being replaced with buses with Motors. A few year later the Model T would come out and by 1920 nearly all horse drawn vehicles were a thing of the past.
My grandfather was 6. He lived to be 103, died in 1999. He was a pilot, oh the aircraft he flew for the military and the things he saw. First person to fly a glider in Hawaii, helped invent air to ground radio. Invented a gunsight for aircraft and invented the old style seatbelts in aircraft that had a flat handle part on the buckle. I sure miss you Pop Pop. Sharp as a tack, taking computer courses at 103, he just didn't wake up one morning.

My grandfather has not born yet at this time. He was born in 1909. It was already crowded with people. So many people on the streets. All of them had died.
I remember 1954 living in Chicago Illinois seeing horses pulling buggies and wagons with blocks of ice, one horse wagon had watermelons. Both were sharing the same streets with cars, and trucks. Near the end of President Eisenhower presidency going into the 1960s the horses and buggies wagons disappeared. I noticed there's no cars in this 1902 new York city video. This video was before that 1918 flu pandemic. REMEMBER the first automobile was electric cars. You have to crank it up by turning a handle in front of that car.

My grandfather has not born yet at this time. He was born in 1909. It was already crowded with people. So many people on the streets.
All of them had died.
All these people..all their stories..hearts and minds faded away..

I remember 1954 living in Chicago Illinois seeing horses pulling buggies and wagons with blocks of ice, one horse wagon had watermelons. Both were sharing the same streets with cars, and trucks. Near the end of President Eisenhower presidency going into the 1960s the horses and buggies wagons disappeared. I noticed there's no cars in this 1902 new York city video. This video was before that 1918 flu pandemic. REMEMBER the first automobile was electric cars. You have to crank it up by turning a handle in front of that car.

@@pistoffpussycat5778a lot of us would be screwed but not everyone. there are still plenty of people around the world living apart from modern technology. if our technology truly collapsed we would eventually adapt.

The family was intact back the. Mental health issues were rare. Children had skills to contribute to family prosperity. If / when the internet goes down 2/we are screwed. We don't know how to survive
