Hilda is my 1973 Hillman Imp, and Hilda doesn't have a stereo. Normally that's not a problem, but every now and then, it is. But, I don't want to cut the interior up or wreck a classic dashboard with a standard DIN head unit.
I'm wondering if this is the answer!

Thanks for featuring my music Rich! Nice Fast Show Jazz Club reference 'magic'..🙏🏻Potentially a good system, maybe if the company offered a wider low-profile ‘soundbar’ style speaker plug in for the back, that extends either side of the touchscreen across the top of the dash L&R, with speakers that face towards cabin. Also, the extra cavity space will help it develop much better bass, and it could be ‘ported’ for that.
for the money I would buy a mount for my phone, and a big Bluetooth speaker.
Same
Ghetto blaster on the passenger side footwell.Job done like the good old days haha.
The main question to be answered for those of us who remember driving in the 1980's & 90's; DID IT MAKE HILDA FASTER! A Goodmans was worth 20mph bragging rights, a Pioneer was off the scale, did this have the same effect?
Yeah, it absolutely flew. Added 10bhp and pops & bangz
Ooh , Ooh ! i have the perfect answer to music in the car , yesterday whilst going through suggested on youtube , up pops a guy in NZ who has stuffed a mini Porsche engine ( Honda Goldwing 1500 flat six ) in the engine compartment with what looks like plenty of clearance . Surely the sound of a flat 6 is music enough ?? sounded awesome on chatt
I hope this is car ‘pride’ because that soils be quite troubling😂😂
Brilliant I love that others are coming round and finically speaking out agaisnt that horror show of a mafia
This channel just found new support👍🏻👍🏻
That was a sodding good vid, mate. I've wondered about those Carpuride things for yonks and I could never understand how they ACTUALLY worked.
It really wasn't, it was terrible! But thanks, I appreciate it
Occasionally, when the awesome, bulletproof reliability of modern Mercedes lorries goes unaccountably awry 😬, I have to use a spare with no sounds. So, at least 5 times a year I’m in the spare with no music.
I’ve found the Marshall Emberton portable speaker to be great. Easily loud enough to be heard & lasts ages before it needs recharged. I highly recommend. If only they made lorries…
I've got similar in the Minor. Android Auto is so useful as you get the maps and Spotify in a format that's perfect for driving as it uses big buttons and voice commands
It reads texts to you and you can use voice to reply to them.
So useful when you're solo in a convoy and the group chat is keeping you up to date with what's happening.
I have the system rigged up to a proper stereo and was thinking about upgrading the amp so I can hear it louder but I think I might just replace the whiny diff.
86 dB ?!?! That's hearing damage levels of prolonged. Perhaps a muffler?
My classic van had a din hole for a standard stereo but no speakers and i didn't want to drill holes for speakers
I found a stereo with two speakers built into the stereo itself, works great for a Chinese thing
Using Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay), you can just run compatible apps that are on your phone (including any satnav apps), no need for mirroring. The mirroring is there if you want to play video while moving, which Android Auto and Apple CarPlay block.
Welcome to the world of tomorrow….today!!
You’re about 10 years younger than me! I’m still up to date with all the incar tech.
I have a bmw 2002 and I have this same issue.
For me for the time being I’m going to buy a ‘Roberts petite’ radio.
As it will sit perfectly on the dash shelf.
It has a built in battery.
And it has Bluetooth.
So I could connect my phone for CZcams and play vids while on journeys, but have a better speaker.
I feel it’s a great solution, as I also don’t want to cut holes in tbe dash for a radio.
Or anywhere for speakers.
I’m also thinking of fitting a second Bluetooth speaker for those longer trips.
But for the small instant ones this will be my personal solution fkr now.
Makes Hildas dash board look more modern with your modern gauges but the sound of the inline 4 cylinder engine is also a great sound
QVC The Shopping Channel has found its new presenter!
Hahahahahahahahahababahaha
No.
What a sweet drive
Fareham council puts out the road cones for sporty Hilda. 😎👍
Great review. I like the tablet, and concept. Tablet looks solid. Probably better in a bigger, quieter car but with a more powerful speaker. Hilda's dB within are high without ear plugs.
That le device meme creased me with laughter😂😂😂.
I think you missed the point of these devices. Sure you can play music through them, and make calls, but their main use is to let you use either Android Auto or Apple Carplay with it. This links to your phone, and lets you use a subset of apps you have on your phone, on the device. Not all apps are compatible though. The main one is you can use a navigation application (e.g. Google Maps or Waze) on the device screen without having to touch the phone. As long as your phone can get a GPS signal, it will work. I have one of these type of devices in my 1974 DS, and I use Google Maps and BBC Sounds all the time, which is a great help as I've recently moved to France!
You're probably right. I'm not sure why they asked me if I wanted to review it tbh. I'm technically sub-normal!
Been down that coast road a bazillion times when i was doing deliveries.
I'm really glad you did this video.
For me earphones are too intense, they take away from my driving alertness, so it's definitely interesting to find an alternative.
However, I think I would be better helped with just a phone and a Bluetooth speaker
But if I should connect a rear camera it might make more sense - some models even include a dashcam, which could make it worthwhile (but not for my old "hobby-cars")
I reckon you could be done for driving 'without due care and attention' if you use earphones or headphones. In my view it's a really dangerous thing to do...
Apart from that how many times do you first become aware of a mechanical fault, or a tyre losing pressure, because the sound of the car changes?
I don't have a radio on my fiesta, I have a small JBL speaker and my phone, it's not ideal but it was cheap, easy and required cero installation or thinking 😅
Rich, Unless I am very much mistaken, one of the pages you were looking at had a graphic equaliser adjustments on it, apart from changing some frequecies in order to hear things better ( requires experiment ) but the far left slider was a EQ boost adjuster, either -10db, zero or +10db, the default was zero boost , so try adding say 5% and see how that goes or all 10 and hopefully blast yourself out a bit more.
I did try all that, this was the best setting I could come up with.
Sounds a very fair and balanced review. Let us have a progress report when you've played w it a bit more?
Actually, thinking further, if you have a crap phone (like me), you don't use it for music. But! I do have an iPod touch, which cd possibly link wirelessly and leave your phone out of the equation. But then you cd use the phone for satnav as well. Hmmm...
So you were the exhaust hooligan I heard around LOS & Newgate Lane then 😂 I’ve yet to see you locally however
Oh no, that's the pop & bang brigade! I'm not in that.
If you hit the Android icon, you should ger mapnabs short cuts with Android car play .
P.S. love Hilda
I did try that but it said I needed to set up this thing with a QR code. Tried that and it didn't work. Got the arse, went for drive!
Go blue tooth speaker/s magnet fit or strap down dash mounted tube type.
Pants...... is the first thing that entered my head. Probably sounds like those nasty little boxes that you plugged into your walkman. You have to be a certain age to remember such awfulness 😂
It might sound better if you played the Spice Girls Greatest Hits through it ?
Mirror should never be an option as it's hopeless, press the android button on the screen that will use android auto or the iPhone one to use carplay so much better, I did buy of these for my car but sent it back as didn't look neat enough for me
Much better off with a nice loud bluetooth speaker....id go for a JBL or a UE Boom 😊
This. The only downside - in my honest opinion - with the UE Boom/Blast speakers is that they're tall rather than wide like a pill-style speaker. They sound great when placed correctly.
@@stephandolby very true! I got a JBL charge 5 which makes an excellent powerbank
I have a Bluetooth fm transmitter and a phone mount in all 4 of the cars I tend to use ... but then they all have stereos (but no aux inputs) ... Though larger screen for sat nav could be useful sometimes
Could you add a switch to act as a reverse selector, so you can see behind when you need to?
My first car was an Allegro with a radio in - taking it out was too hard so I mounted a stereo in the glove box! Changing tapes was 'interesting' ;-)
if you use android auto or carplay it will use the maps on phone as satnag without any need for mirrorring
Also... Ok this is very Techy/nerdy. If you have a geeky computer friend you could have the old phone jail broken and add a Bluetooth speaker. Better product for £50 max and you will be able to hear it. There's a Bluetooth speaker that splits in 2 so you can get a wide spread stereo and the one I'm thinking of is probably 3 times louder than your doc thingo.
Finally got myself an Imp. Where did you get the front splitter?
Guy who made it disappeared, or so I'm told!
@@UPnDOWN ah shame! Thanks Rich
Is that tyre squeal? At the roundabouts?
I went for old pionner* fm stereo and good pionner* HP's and a BT FM transmitter that also tels the voltage of the car and haves a micro sd .paired to the smartphone sends the music and waze sounds . Does it make carplay so we can have Waze on that big screen ?
I believe it does, according to everyone else in the comments but I'm technologically illiterate, so I wouldn't know!
Never heard of “pionner”
@@e28forever30 oups ,my bad its * Pioneer😅
Dear Reader,
What companies are inventing these days is extraordinary. But is it extraordinary useful, or just extraordinary unnecessary?
If it is the latter, then they can invent something for me too. A car radio for someone without a car. So that when I click on my nose, horrible music starts playing, which I have no way of turning off. Until I want to pull my head off my torso out of desperation.
Something in that vein?
Once again a constructive and uplifting contribution from me, I notice.
Yours sincerely,
Michel F. van den Brun
pedestrian on the other side of the canal
Did you say SM? Have you got one? Corrr!
I would've thought Hilda's song was music enough.
I'd rather listen to that lovely engine.
did you max the phone volume out too?
Just a quick question. Did you have the phone volume on full as that would affect the volume level?
It did.
Excellent. Glad to be of help. 😁
Great to see and hear Hilda drive.
Not a bad idea but poor execution, especially for the price.
Fair.
Would the speaker pack work directly with a phone🤔
With a number of adapters, yes. But not advantage over a Bluetooth speaker really.
I got a pumpkin for my Volvo, but that does have speakers.
You were done mate! It's worth much more than that!!
'Dail out'? Methinks 'dial out'. Makes you wonder about the product development if they can't spell, or don't get product feedback before it's marketed.
Fair.
The Carpuride peeps are probably laughing at you, seeing as Android Auto will show Google Maps, Waze etc from your phone. A much better BT speaker will make a big difference in sound quality - the speakers in the add-on unit are small with a a lower case s.
They might as well, they can join in with everyone else!
@@UPnDOWN Yeah, but we laugh at you with admiration and something approaching love. If HubNut is Tommy Cooper, you are, I don't know, Ronnie Barker.
Make sure the volume on your phone is up to max.
Bloody expensive? Just Bluetooth a decent speaker to your phone, seeing as how you have to use a phone, anyway?
It's a fair observation!
Money would be better spent on a good phone mount and a good bluetooth speaker.
Fair.
meh! 😁
