Nowhere else in Verdi's oeuvre do you find such an intriguing dramatic structure. In La Forza del Destino, the suffering of all three of our central characters is caused by one traumatic event. A terrible case of manslaughter (against a truly depraved father) begins the downward spiral of tragicomic events of pure melodrama. Through Piave's text, but mostly through the touching, devastating music of Verdi's pen, we are brought into the bottomless pits of despair that are our characters' lacerated minds. Verdi attempts to contrast this tragedy with brief comic episodes, a bit like divertissements of French/Russian ballet. All of this makes La Forza possess an incredibly rich and diverse landscape, both dramatically and musically. We see how large the world is in this opera. - Hudba
The overture is a recording by Abbado with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

One can hear a lot of Beethoven, and Mozart in him. Not so for many other composers.
I DISAGREE ! Nothing AT ALL like Mozart or Beethoven. In fact THE GREAT MAESTRO SAID, AND I QUOTE, "Beethoven ALWAYS WROTE badly for the voice".
His influence is undeniable here, though he is inimitable. Beethoven is also another giant.
@@omegads3862 I am NOT DENYING Beethoven's genius, (or Mozart's either).
