  • I have been battling severe depression and anxiety for seven years. I have tried many different medication combos and all have failed to improve my symptoms. I am undergoing a treatment called electroconvulsive therapy which is a treatment for depression that has a much higher success rate than any antidepressant. For the length of my treatment, I will be keeping a video journal of my progress. Due to the lack of testimonies about ECT on CZcams, I have decided to share my journal with the community. Thank you for taking the time to check out my channel. I hope you find my videos informative and helpful.

d20Fitness Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words. I really have a problem with being critical of myself and worrying about what others think. But I suppose that probably a lot of us with depression do and I so do appreciate your reassurance and understanding. I am so glad that you like the videos! I really wanted to do this because there are so few testimonies online or at least hard to find testimonies. It’s so good to hear that these videos are helping people. Again, thank you for your encouragement and kindness. I hope all is well with you :)

I'm really identifying with your difficulties with the nurse. I'd love to see another video if you ever get a chance. I hope you know it's okay to miss some videos. Those of us that deal with the depression understand how hard motivation can be for something like this. I love your approach to the videos too. We seem to get a good look at how you think on the subject and it's very compelling. I'm subscribing just in case you decide to do more. Thanks for all you have done so far.

Hey Jenny, thank you for posting your videos and sharing your experiences. I am in the process of deciding whether or not to get ECT. I have no support system and most of everyone who used to know me can't stand to be around me anymore but at the same time none of them have the guts or compassion to at least try and be there for me anyway since I am the one who's life is going by. Anyway, thanks for the videos Jenny, sorry about the ranting, lol.

    Hi Jenn.
I think your video's great, and more importantly, I think getting more videos out with information regarding such serious issues like this that are being more commonly recognized by this generation, couldn't be more important right now. Although I suffer from some mental health issues that have been corrected through therapy, medication (and simply waiting out a five year period of hell, thank god), my mom is different. She has been suffering for years, and medication has seemed to have failed her after literally decades of trying different combos, going to therapy, using a light during the winter, etc. She's told me she's thinking of going through ECT, as she can't bare the way she feels anymore. I'm just worried about her and the whole process. I've heard there can be extreme side effects in rare cases (permanent long term memory loss, cognitive dysfunction, and many others.) What your saying, about how you feel when depressed, sounds identical to how she says she feels. What I'm wondering is, did you assume the side effects wouldn't be overly harsh (memory loss)? Did you decide that you were willing to risk any side effects as you just needed your mental state to change due to such a constant low mood? Does your fiancee and family (who would know you best) see positives? Negatives? Are you happy with your choice? Are your treatments supposed to last much longer? Be permanently maintained? I know this is a lot, but any answers would be so appreciated. I just don't want to see my mom end up mentally incapacitated or something, and I'd obviously like to know as much as possible to support her if she goes through with this.
    Thanks
    My email is Ryan.Baas@hotmail.com
If you could put ECT in the subject line if you choose to answer, that would be great, and really, any input would be greatly appreciated. If not, great video, and I really wish you the best of luck with having good days everyday!

@Tommy Thomas Hi Tommy, I am so sorry that things have been so hard for you. I am sending you the best wishes and I hope that someone comes into your life that does have what it takes to be there for you. It isn’t fair to you at all that those around you don’t understand and I am truly sorry for that. If you can, let me know what you decide about the ECT. Wishing you the very best.

I had severe anxiety and depression a few years ago that necessitated 4 hospitalizations and 20 ECT treatments. Keep in mind that there are 2 types of ECT - Right Unilateral is safer but less effective; Bilateral is more effective but tends to create memory loss. Other treatment options would include TMS and Ketamine infusion, among others.

Hi Jenny I'm thinking about ect but Idk yet :/ I've been through alot the last twenty years and I started being depressed when I was 13 and now I'm 20. I've been on tons of meds been hospitalized multiple times due to suicide attempts and been to see tons of therapists and I'm on my second psychiatrist due to an incident with my last one. Within the last few months I've been through alot and I just can't deal with it anymore and I need some sort of help. All I feel like is just numb and like I wanna die and like I am just stuck. I don't know what to do but I'm thinking about ect. I honestly want the brain loss cuz I needa forget my past cuz it's very traumatic and debilitating but part of me is also scared about the seizures. If you have any advice I would really appreciate it.

i cannot understand why there hasnt been a push to make Magnetic Seizure Therapy widespread in America. instead of inducing a seizure with electricity, they are doing it with magnets instead. right now there are clinical trials for it in Canada and Germany. but none in America :(

Depression is a thought process treatable by mental discipline in achieving positive thought; It took me 7 years to figure that out. Anxiety is a thought process treatable by being as mentally uncomfortable as possible; it took me 2 years to figure that out. I am now free to be as happy as I desire.
