Gasquet having beaten everyone ranked 1 to 100 is actually an amazing stat
Is he the only one to do it?
I wasn’t sure i heard that correctly. It is impressive indeed!
I don't get it, he has never beaten Nadal has he ?
@@marinmicard4720 it means he defeated players when they were ranked 1-100 so it can be same guy at different ranking whenever he beats them, doesn't has to be 100 different players!
@@MKD1101 exactly, so like for example the one time he beat Djokovic he might’ve been 8 in the world. He has never beat Nole being no. 1.
Damn that stat of gasquet having beaten everybody ranked 1-100 is super badass

Gotta like seeing that beautiful one-hander of Gasquet.
I don't know who Riedi is but he kind of imploded, having held three successive match points at 7-5, 5-4, 40-0 up.
It's like he remember at 7-5 5-4 40-0 up that he was supposed to lose the match for that matchfixing money cause that man really threw that match hard
"having held three successive match points"
I counted 6 total match points squandered in that one game! Ouch. And he wasn't able to save even one himself in the final set.
I've lived in Switzerland. That surnames is for sure a Swiss German name. Obviously he got a wild card being Swiss. Not a top player.
Win or lose, it's good to have Daniil back on a tennis court.
Win or lose.....its right to chose.
if we don't hv Meddy it's our loss
Exactly, he may not love clay but we love his memes on clay))
that medvedev jumping dropshot was incredible
Richard got Meddy the next time, tho
Really glad to see meddy back. Ik he's not in good form rn but i will hope for his recovery and he will be better till rolland garros. He will comeback as a beast🔥
RG already in progress (qualifiers) and Meddy absolutely hates clay so I wouldn't get hopes up lol. He'll be back for sure for the grass/hard tho.
@@avallach2061 Russians are banned from Wimbledon- sorry Meddy is done, best chance was against Djokovic in AO2021, and Nadal in AO2022- he won't win any Grand Slams now, I'm convinced, least of all clay, if he wins FO2022 I may as well win the lottery!
@@pauljohnson6019 never said or insinuated anything that you commented. Just said he'll not be back for clay because he sucks in clay. Jesus.
@@pauljohnson6019 why are you saying he can’t win anymore grand slams?
@@pauljohnson6019 You say that as if he hasn't won a Slam already and as though he's completely out of the equation at the US Open? It's not like he's old either
I wasn't expecting any wonders from Meddy this match. Richard is a good player on clay but the second set was really tight). I expected Daniil to do worse since his operation.
Great to see Medvedev back and playing on his favourite surface
@Rafa Undisputed goat Alcaraz: May I come in?
@Rafa Undisputed goat Not this year. Nole has it

So happy to see Daniil back on court! Of course this time it wasn't the great game, but you can feel the progress that he makes during the match. Hope that everything will be fine and RG appearance will be more succesful.

How many point does Medvedev have to defend in the French Open? If he doesn't get back on his Meds, it's doubtful he'll defend them.

@Rafa Undisputed goat Rafa would still destroy Medvedirt even with his foot injury
Gasquet showing glimpses of his former self. Such a talented player and would have been a Slam contender in this current crop of younger players.
What contender? Tsitsipas, Zverev, Medvedev, Alcaraz and the rest of the top 15 players are better than he ever was. Rafa gasquet 17 0, fed gasquet 19 2, Djokovic gasquet 13 1. Stop overrating older players, dude had two semi-finals at grand slam, the other success were fourth round of a slam.
@@ivanstanisavljevic8245 don't forget he played them in their primes.they are the big 3 ffs.murray del po warwinka bedrych tsonga will have slams after slams in this generation
@@bhaswatapratimbaruah889 I've been watching tennis for a very long time and I can tell you that 19 year old Alcaraz is better than 19 year old Nadal and Novak, don't need to mention Federer who was not s top 10 player st that age. and he still wont win a slam this year, last year Novak played as good as ever in slams, the best match of Novak that I watched in a grand slam is the one he played in 2019 against Nadal st the Australian Open. Stop romanticize the past these guys are way better than Gasquet ever was. Alcaraz is 19 and he would beat any version of Gasquet 10/10 times. Alcaraz is the best 19 year old in history in my opinion and I'm Novak's fan. He does not even have to win a slam this year to prove that. Gasquet never won a master title and these guys managed to grab them in their teens or when they were 20.
@@ivanstanisavljevic8245 not 10/10 times, he'd win the vast majority on clay & hard though. Gasquet is very good on grass and would pick up wins on that surface against Alcaraz
@@Baratheon. whatever, I haven't seen Alcaraz on grass but my point is that Gasquet wont have a chance to win a slam in this era. Alcaraz, Zverev, Tsitsipas are way better players is simple as that. Yes, the hardest era in tennis history was from 2010-2017 but these guys are far cry from Gasquet. There is no comparison, tennis is in great hands, lots of good players on the tour right now. People are bashing newer players because Novak and Rafa and still stealing slams from them but they don't see that they are as good as ever. Their last match at RG was one of the best matches ever.
Medvedev back on his favourite surface! ❤️
No ball abuse!
Observing Medvedev on clay is so entertaining lol

Jean Paul Belmondo still doing great at 35 against the clay octopus
What an incredible choke by Riedi, Damn… Hope he will learn from it!
It doesn't seem choke, it seems Nikkles has a good a good return game, attacking players struggle against good returners.
it is the biggest choke ive ever seen
@@alexblasco2004 yeah for sure it is up there!

medvedev one of the few in top ten that haven't been beaten by alcaraz
That Reidi / Nikles match was crazy, one of those matches where the strategy of both players is hit the ball as hard as humanly possible on almost every shot.
Reidi choked so bad sheeeesh
Surprised to see Medvedev already back. I thought he had some surgery and would completely pass the sand season...? Anyways: great to have him back. Let's see if he can be back full swing for the French Open.
Wow, classy match from Gasquet.

Literally zero surprise that Medvedev lost: 1. Hasn't played a match in 2 months, 2. He hates the clay. But the second set was actually very competitive, so that's definitely a plus, probably won't make it far at the french due to the lack of match practice. It will take him a while to get back to the top of his game, kinda how it took Djokovic a while to reach a high level again. One thing to note is that I saw Medvedev go to the net much more frequently than before. I hope Gilles Cervara is emphasizing the importance of going to the net to put the ball away, if he continues doing that it's going to make him very strong since he is 6'6 and has amazing wingspan, I think Meddy can be a good player at the net if he learns how to volley properly.
He certainly improved between the first and second set. Started to figure things out. Playing at the net really isn't his game, but as he gets older, he's probably going to have to shorten those long rallies he loves to play. He's really not that bad up there, and Gilles is going to have to convince him of it.
Medvedev called out his inner Rafa and Kyrgios but still couldn't win. But hey his back in business!
And also again, Gasquet produced some beautiful tennis~
...He would have called out his inner Djoko if he had had another ball in the pocket~
Très grosse perf de notre Gasquet national
C'est le vieux qui donne la leçon à nos jeune français
J'ai pas hâte d'être à Roland Garros cette année
Merci Richard 🔵⚪🔴
Did daniil throw any tantrums? Last year he sure did during the clay season. But anyway good to see him back. Hope he goes at least to week two at RG.
Ça fait plaisir de retrouver Richard en forme même si Medvedev était loin d être à 100 pourcent de bonne augure avant Roland
med loves his clay lol
Bravo Nikles
Fantastic win for Gasquet, terrific play. Medvedev's head-case issues made a bit of a comeback. And Fognini had another "just here filling a desk" match.
Make no mistake, it totally makes sense to collect the bonus for entering a 250 event and the negotiated minimum rounds while not risking another injury prior to a major just around the corner. Gasquet is still a good player but this is how the business works with the top 10 players.
Can you explain this further? What do you mean bonus and negotiated minimum rounds? Are you talking about Meddy?
@@Intamin I think he meant that Meddy probably got an appearance fee to play at this tournament. A lot of the top players get appearance fees to play at lesser tournaments that's not listed as prize money. Although, he also wanted to play because he knew he needed the match play before Roland Garros. I'm pretty sure the tournament would have loved to have had him win because the stands were packed for his match. Not sure about the negotiated minimum rounds. When you lose, you lose?
@@mrsjake1828 Exactly. Top players collect the "apperance fees" or bonuses and negotiate the rounds they plan to play (in case they win). For instance you say I will try to stay in the main draw until round 3 you won't go for a victory no matter what in round 3 anymore to save you from possible injuries. There are numerous options, sometimes you als negotiate a fellow player into the main draw like Rafa did with Munar once in Hamburg. The sum you can collect is usually way higher than the prize money.
@@brocanova Thanks for more information regarding the rounds played. I watched a video with some guys who were talking about the tournament (I think they were into the betting side), and they even mentioned that they doubted Medvedev was interested in getting to the finals at all. I doubt a lot of fans realize that these guys make a lot of money from negotiated appearance fees instead of prize money. Love him or hate him, Medvedev's name has been in the headlines for months. I would think these smaller tournaments are very interested in having him there. The fans at Geneva seemed to be quite supportive of him and stadium full. If the schedule I've seen on his twitter page is correct, he's playing a tournament every week (except Wimbledon). Win or lose, he's making money.
@@mrsjake1828 Well, actually it starts quite early, negotiating between the players who gets the prize money, who gets the points, then from the organizers of the C and D events about the appearance bonuses and so on. It's nothing crooked or anything, it's just a business. The bonuses usually vary between €500,000 and 1,000,000 and can really go up for a super star.
This has got to be Gaquet's most remarkable win ever!
