I have a lot of memories in San Jose. First started going down there in 2001 with my grandfather who had been making trips there since the 1970's. I fell in love there several times and had my heart broken there several times. I really preferred it back in the early 2000's, it still had a charm and mystique to it. Now it's become MUCH more Americanized. Even so, I consider San Jose' to be a second home, and always cherish the memories of my grandfather and the trips we used to take together there. Pura Vida :)

A few blocks down on the left was the old New York bar. Have been looking for videos that show the front of the embassy (now public education building from what I see on google. Anyone remember the old New York bar? From what I understand it was located where the parking lot is across from Hotel Del Ray (which I don’t remember). This now 80 year old spent many of hours in the New York bar. 😏
The streets are clean like in Europe. On the Panamanian side of the border are many Costa Rican girls, on the Costa Rican side there were many Panamanian girls. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side? I was there for my 30th birthday, 34 years ago. I had brought Graciela from Panama City...ah the memories...

@@ivanronin8209 that's the commercial and retail areas all closed for the night. On the main strip where the street mall is located it's foot traffic only. I was there two years ago. Gets a bit cool in the evening in the summer once the sun goes down. No sticky humid weather except in the middle of the day. I used to walk out at night. It looks dangerous but I never encountered real crime. Up toward the mountain areas all the homes got metal gates surrounding the yards instead of fences.

This video is too deceiving... the main slide shows 3 working girls on a corner and it's only 5 secs of a 24 min video. Any Downtown area of a big city has good and bad areas and what I see here is a quiet clean city at night no homeless campgrounds.

En Costa Rica la fiesta y toda la vida nocturna se da en las playas, San José es un lugar de Comecio que Cierra de noche, si quieren vida nocturna en San José no la van a encontrar, solo existe un puñado de lugares que ofrecen estas actividades.
