Ha, funny. I bought a "Restorer" branded version 2 weeks ago myself. Also was intrigued by the nylon wheel (I got a 180 grit). I used the stainless steel wheel and the nylon wheel to clean up the live edge on a piece using a walnut slab I completed recently. The stainless wire drum was too aggressive for that. Worked fine, but left lots of deep grooves. Ended up using the 80 grit sanding drum after that, followed by the 180 grit nylon wheel, and was pretty happy with the results.
The Craftsman and Restorer seem to be dang near identical... The sanding drum that comes with the Restorer brand one is also keyed all the way through as well. I also agree that the speed control is... almost useless lol Setting 1 bogs down way too easily to be of much use on wood. I'm hoping it'll take off a lot of time over using a wire wheel in a grinder when restoring an upcoming table saw project

Yep! My exact thoughts too. the wire wheel is great for removing rotted wood and maybe bark, but never on a piece you actually like.

I thought the wheels wasn't wide enough so the more conventional ways was is more practical.like brushing on paint remover and then wiping away or pressure washing rinseing away old paint was is more along the rite/ best .way

One potential advantage of the Craftsman design is better dust collection. It would be interesting to see a comparison of dust collection efficiency for the Craftsman design vs. the more typical Eastwood/Bauer design. I'm kind of surprised how often reviewers can't even be bothered to read the manual for the tool they're reviewing. The OP comments that there is probably a belt driving the roller. A quick look at the exploded parts diagram shows that there are two larger gears meshed together: one, driven directly by the motor, meshed with the 2nd that then turns a smaller gear at the end of the roller shaft. No belt.

Dust collection would be a good idea. I don't have the other one to compare though.
Appreciate the clarification on belt drive

Nice review. Front latch acts as a hinge so best to leave it attached but loose when changing rollers 👍🏼👍🏼

It does? From the design, it doesn't seem to want to do that?
