  • In the middle of the night on November 12th, 2019, Venice was hit by the highest tide in more than 50 years. 80% of the city was immersed under water, hundreds of businesses were destroyed and the ancient crypt of St. Mark’s Cathedral was flooded. The worst flood since 1966 set in motion a worldwide effort to save the city from the both sinking and rising sea levels. We investigate the events that followed from the day after this catastrophic event and what led to the disaster that could have destroyed Venice forever. Reconstructing the tragedy with hundreds of photographs, real footage and witness interviews that were shot during the emergency, we look back to 50 years ago when it all started.

Eventually nature reclaims everything that belongs to her. Very sad situation but corruption is nothing new, human incompetence is nothing new, winners and loosers is nothing new. I visited Venice in mid 90's and it was very cool but it does not compare to natural buty of lets say Alaska or Tahiti.

@MyUtubeScott, you are right - nature always has reclaimed and always will reclaim things eventually. That's the nature of things, and nothing will last forever. This is true as far as man-made structures are concerned, but it's also true for natural enviroments. Rivers will change their course, green areas may become deserts, and islands will sink into the sea after severe storms. We are only guests, but unfortunately we have acquired the potential to make our whole planet inhabitable for us and many other species.
However, I disagree with you strongly about Venice in comparison with the natural beauties of Hawaii or Alaska. I have visited both places , and I loved them - especially Hawaii! But I also love Venice, although in a very different way. If Venice will vanish it's as tragic as if the volcano will destroy Hawaii's Big Island.
We will see what will happen to Venice in the next few years. It's sad that much of the destruction happened because of incompetence and corruption. But as you said, that's nothing new.

Unfortunately, every year the number of cataclysms will only increase. A very important climate report was voiced at the international online forum *"Global* *crisis.* *There* *is* *a* *way* *out"* (time 4:37-31:30).
The only solution is the *Creative* *Society,* where human life will be the highest value, so everyone will be guaranteed safety, well-being and a high standard of living.

Very sad, but there are even larger catastrophes ahead of us. An international team of scientists has given an accurate mathematical model of the events of the coming years (forum *"Global* *crisis.* *There* *is* *a* *way* *out",* time 4:37-31:30).
The only solution is the *Creative* *Society,* which will protect every human life and guarantee well-being and security.
