But, I could hardly believe it when Dianna said in an interview that she only had 13 dates, or time spent with Charles before he asked her to marry him. Also, he had several other women he had asked to marry him and who had turned him down. She was raised in an estate not far from one of the estates where Charles spent time while growing up, and he dated her older sister. She must have had some inkling of an idea of what this would be like.
No woman of her age is truly ready for the realization of marriage. She was not prepared for the selfishness of the royal family nor a husband who married out of duty. He never loved her only treated her like a new toy in the beginning. Once he had the heirs he was required to produce from a wife of good standing he went back to the woman he loved. He left his wife alone with a broken soul and never considered how badly he treated her. His selfish child like behavior destroyed a beautiful woman who did love him and wanted to save their marriage. She had no one to turn to and no one who cared.
