I'm a country girl I'd never even heard of steam punk b4 Threadbanger...... Not many if any ppl. around here dress like that but I love being exposed to new things and new ideas!! Love you threadbanger!!!!
Also couches. Look for leather couches in the free section of craigslist or such. Usually at least the back panel is salvageable, which can be something like 3x6.
I am going to Barcelona, but I want to keep my tennis shoes on everywhere. I am going to try to make spats for my tennis shoes, so I can keep them on when we go to the fancy events.Thank you for this vid.
spats have been used by the military throughout the world for hundreds of years (seriously) they used to make theirs by hand so as long as your hand doesn't cramp out you should be good to make yours by hand also.
This is helpful... but it seems like a lot of the video is cut out. I'm not too thrilled about the video editing. It seems to jump ahead quite a bit when it could have more information.
It's hard to find good jockey caps... mine is woven right now, and I need to upgrade to something more durable. This video is great, I'll be making some spats soon!
Thanks for sharing this informational video. I'm going to try incorporate some of your ideas into making me some tall spats so that I look like I'm wearing fashion boots. I just can't find any "real" fashion boots to fit my very wide calves.
I'm using this for a similar concept as you. I'm going to cover boots that have lace-up. Possibly the only boots that wide-calved folks can wear. (You could trace a store pair with lace-up too.) I just need to make them a little taller so it can flap over as pirate boots.
I am attempting to do a spat out ov an older pair of side zip up boots. I just can't seem to wrap my head around how to make this happen. Why? I don't know. But I been staring at this already cut out piece ov bomb red leather boot I have taken the soul off of. Literally staring at it. Attempting to figure this out. . I got nothin. Can anyone help? Please? I'm getting all teary eyed here and quite thirsty. Being I been I. My shed here in Phoenix AZ for for days now hoping it will just hit me on how to make this happen! But this zipper is throwing me off and the fast it don't open up all the way. The red leather I'm using for my spat is 11" tall which is 2 inches taller than the boot it will be going on if this helps any. On a size 9 womans shoe
Did you ever succeed in figuring this out? I'm attempting the same, searched the web after dismantling my boots, and found your comment. My reasoning is that it doesn't matter if the zipper opens fully if I'm leaving it in, which seems the easiest approach (although not as fancy as, let's say, a line of buttons). In theory, I should be able to slip into the spat contraption prior to any shorter shoe, and then figure out a way to close the rubber band I should attach at the bottom ..... right? Yes? Maybe?
one piece is the side without buttons. the two smaller pieces are the parts where the buttons and the button holes go. That's why she said to cut the fabric pattern apart and trace them. So you have three pattern pieces.
Corinne dressing extremely hot today! That was a great tutorial, very well presented though I've one question. Aside from looking cool what are spats for? Do they protect your shoes or something?
I am a Springfield Missouri Central High School Kiltie. (Scotish drum and bugle corp. You should look us up 😉 we are pretty awesome!) We wear spats with our outfit! This is cool. We also wear Kilts. You should make a Kilt. That would be freaking amazing.

I don't know if they mentioned it, but charity shop leather jackets are a good source of cheap leather.
Also couches. Look for leather couches in the free section of craigslist or such. Usually at least the back panel is salvageable, which can be something like 3x6.

It's hard to find good jockey caps... mine is woven right now, and I need to upgrade to something more durable. This video is great, I'll be making some spats soon!
I would imagine so, you would just need to increase the top and bottom of the pattern as well in order to account for a finished edge.
OMG I almost bought a pair of shoes that looked just like that but they weren't heels. They had the awesome buttons and stuff though.
oh my goodness - corinne did you make the hat you are wearing in the intro, if not where can i find one like it?
