  • Join us as we talk about a rare and collectable Winchester that was once thought to be a parts gun. An article in "The Winchester Collector" magazine showed it to be one of only a few that were made for movie production in the 1920's and reminded us just how valuable a membership in WACA can be.

Love those old rifles, and carbines. I have a wichester model 69a, with a peep sight, bolt action 22. That old rifle is my go to 22, with the peep sight my old eyes can find the sights easily , plus it's a beauty. Those old lever guns are awesome , and I don't think they will ever go out of style !!

Well Mark, this video has spurred me to pull the trigger on joining the WACA! I've been a Winchester fan as long as I can remember and took my first deer with a '54 model 94 Carbine in 32Spl that my grandfather bought new. I still own that rifle to this day. Over the last few years I've developed and insatiable hunger to learn all I can about Winchesters long and interesting history. Ive also managed to add a few more to my modest little collection, mostly newer production. Thanks for all you do for the shooting/collecting community and with this channel Mark.

My grandmother gave it to my dad before she passed with instructions to be sure I got it because I always took it out of the closet she kept it in & clean it whenever we visited when I was a kid. It was made sometime in the 1930s in a limited run & Winchester didn't even put serial numbers on them. It still shoots great & is in great condition. I love to plink with it. In my eye it's priceless.

When my Dad was a kid he used an 1887 12 gauge. He talked about saving his slugs and making sinkers in the spring for fishing. Then when fall came the sinkers were turned into slugs. He had the shotgun until it was loaned out to a friend in the late 1960's. He saw that friend in the mid 1990's and Doc (Bill Halliday) said he wanted to give the shogun back so it could go to me. Dad was the "do it later guy" and never followed through. Doc died in 1998. I asked Dad if he would call Doc's wife and see if the shotgun was available to get back. She told Dad that Doc took his guns to the gun show in Spokane and sold them all. I often wonder if someone that bought an 1887 12 gauge with the hand carved stock knows it's history? (I may even have the stock end cut that Dad carved a deer scene on in 1942)

Having your name on a cartridge has to be the greatest achievement. Selling rights, letting competitors chamber your cartridge, has to be a selling point. I appreciate the 30/30 round for the available variation in grain. It makes it the most versatile round period.
I will have one on a M4 platform. I have been told it want mag. feed. I bit my tongue and thought, but it does tube feed.

I'm a little confused by your comment. Are you planning to develop a wildcat cartridge with your name on it based on the venerable old 30-30? If so, best of luck with your project. Making it rimless might go a long way to making it feed from a magazine. Otherwise, you may want to look at how John Browning solved feeding rimmed cartridges from a box magazine in the model 1895 Winchesters.
