Wikipedia, 1933, yes it was used by Panzerwaffe, and there was none of them from 1920 to 1932... Didn't allowed under Weimar Republic, so in 1933 everything was changed, now panzers start rolling in, subs were built, heavy bombers... Song is not an Nazi hymn, it was to honor the brave panzer men of Steel, of formerly forbidden force, for all future battles on the roads ahead...
Battle of the Bulge was popularised this song in America...
Remember this song doesn't promote Nazi appease, does songs killed have innocent civilians, of course doesn't!!!

What, the LP? Or the song? This song has been part of the _Bundeswehr_ (German military) songbook until 2017, when it was withdrawn. Certainly not illegal, but deprecated now by the Bundeswehr.
I like this version best. The change of the last verse from "it's an honor to die for Germany to "if I'm unlucky this panzer will be my grave" probably fits the mood of the actual soldiers better, especially late in the war.

@@anonymoususer7792 So what would you have liked to happen? Everyone denying that they ever fought in any war and or were in a specific division? There are several SS companies which weren't as horrible as the SS is portrayed in general. Especially the mechanized SS divisions mainly were used like regular troops and had close to no war crimes on record. I am not saying that the SS in general wasn't "bad" but there are certainly soldiers which were just humans, doing their job, not doing any war crimes. Fuck nazis, intolerance, ignorance and racism. There are certainly a shit ton of war crimes which had been commited in WW2 and they war not all committed by the SS or the 3. Reich. US literally killed 110.000 civilians with two bombs, the russians raped and killed civilians and POW (us troops also raped and stole quite a lot and killed a shit ton of POW). The US actually killed nearly as much civilians as soldiers. Not everyone who fought on the german side was "bad" and not everyone on the us side was "good". In other words: They fought in a war, give them a break.
Also little fun-fact: The US has killed nearly 500k civilians within the last 23 years in 9/11 related wars. That's one probably innocent person every 24 minutes and that are only the confirmed combat related kills. The estimated people who died from destroyed infrastructur and agriculture is currently at ~10.000.000 that's one person... every ~72 seconds.

And make no misstake... at 0:53, those are Panzer 4 no Tiger, seen only at the east-front. Very rarely at western front... there was a few... but very rarely. Britain and Americans had no anti-tank rifels... but the russian.

Thank you for posting this. It’s been a long time since I got to hear this original version. Like you I’m not an extremist but I remember first hearing this version back when world of tanks came out only on pc and how a video had this songed dubbed in for they were showing the awesome MAUS TANK. I loved that video so much. I miss the days when the world was more tolerable about things like this an appreciate old historical find especially those of military history. I love all military historical finds. The nazis did terrible things but some of the german army, some of these men were just that men following orders cause they had no choice.

I always really love it when someone says he's "not an extremist", because we all know that throughout history, right extremists and left extremists have always been equally bad. The ones wanted to kill jews, black people and other minorities or enslave and oppress them alternatively and the others wanted to abolish slavery, give people equal rights and increase social justice. Either "big brother"(government) or the people look at you as an extremist. As you say, both are bad and keep their mind ignorant instead full of understanding something or transforming something that was bad into something good. It's learned and grown as a society.

@@yalam713Frenchmen were German soldiers during WW2! They fought first in the Legion Volontaire contré Le Bolchevisme and later in the Waffen-SS in the Division Charlemagne! They were one of the fiercest defenders of Berlin in 1945, defending the New Chancellery against the red hordes! You can be proud of them! Read Mabire and St. Loups Books about them.

Just a quibble. There are many different pronunciations in German as there are in English. What was noticeable was the use of dipthongs in some of the words (something common in English) that is not common in most German pronunciations. Again, just a quibble. But I'd be interested to know what region of Germany the singers are from.
