    As a mechanic of these types of machines, I can confirm there is a setting for rigging them. The businesses that own them can set the frequency (and also like how far closed it gets), or make it random. A lot of places choose to set a low frequency of accuracy, cause, you know, it makes them more money. If you have your own machine, and just use it for fun, you can set it so that it works almost every time. I think the frustration that a rigged machine gives you is kinda fun though :)

He got a gift cert to buy it at a nearby game store and then he played it again and won again straight after but they denied him the second prize and said its not possible to win again and that the machine must be broken. I used to work at a store inside of a mall and just outside our business they had one of these claw machines that had kid toys inside. We started taking notes when someone would win a prize, and we found that every 53 attempts the next person would ALWAYS get a toy (I'm guessing the machine used its full grip every 54th attempt), so we started counting them, and we'd queue up for the 54th pull and we'd pretty much always get the toy prize, which we then gave to kids that visit our store for free. Fun times, but definitely rigged!

    • @sws212
      @sws212 Před rokem +6

      That's pretty much how they work. The machines are designed to loosen or strengthen their grip every X times to ensure the owners gets at least a specific amount of profit. It's extremely unlikely anyone ever wins except on those pulls.

    as someone who worked at an arcade for about a year… yes. they’re almost always rigged. a good way to tell imo is if the claw is TOO wobbly. a claw that’s too stiff can also make it difficult, but that’s typically as the prize amount gets lower.
    different games/prizes have different claws you’ll want to use- using the others is definitely possible but it makes a huge challenge.
    if you’re getting candy, a stiff and large/wide crane shape is the best. if it’s a plushie, a large and decently bouncy crane with strong arms is the best option- the flimsy arms on the crane are often why the prize will fall out, even after you grab and lift it.
    if you’re getting ticket rings,, you’ll want a small and sturdy crane, similar to the ping pong game’s crane in this video.
    happy arcading, stay safe, and be sure to use hand sanitizer!!! seriously,, we would only go through and clean each game at opening and closing- its gross

  • @menahem2681
    @menahem2681 Před 2 lety +97

    Doubt you’ll read this but used to live in Japan when I was in the marine corps and spent a lot of time playing claw machines there. I would say they are kind of rigged as well but not nearly as much as in the US. The secret with the 2 hand claw machines is one arm is always stronger so you use that one to rotate it to a better angle and once the box is place well you lift it from behind usually. This is what I would do to win anime (nami) figurines.

    • @menahem2681
      @menahem2681 Před 2 lety +3

      You can also use the stronger claw arm to your advantage in the other games as well I suppose.

    • @kyleb8117
      @kyleb8117 Před 2 lety +8

      Yeah, from what I've seen obsessively watching people in Japan play crane games, it seems like Japan is way less rigged than us BUT also equally rigged in some games--and a lot of games are "rigged" in the sense you need to know the tricks to win and develop the skill. Three-claw games seem to be 95% rigged the same as we have where it just drops the prize as it's moving until you play enough games and the claw finally works properly. Some two-claw games have both arms super weak and you just have to nudge/stab it to oblivion. Sometimes the prize is something like a wrapped tee-shirt so it flops around and doesn't fall into the chute. etc.
      The other perk I've seen to in-person JP machines (other than actually being able to play in person) is some of them are REALLY unique. I think my favorite one I've seen is a crane game for figures that gives you two attempts at the prize. You move the claw right, then back, then after it picks up you can hit the button and make it go back down and pick up again (before it returns to the start). Also saw one that was a merry-go-round of five boxes of prizes and you'd rotate them to the one you want and then select whether you want a two- or three-claw and it just rotates around to change it. Really interesting.

    I work at an arcade, it is super simply actually. There is an algorithm depending on how much money the prize is and how much they charge you to play. Based on that the game is programmed to use full strength on the claw only a certain amount of times. Practically it can be related to 20% of the time the claw will use full strength and 80% of the time it will use about 5% of it's full strength.
    As well as the more people play it without winning, the higher chance goes up that it will use full strength instead of 5% so the more you play the likely to get something. (Because of this they say it is impossible to win a claw game right after someone won)
    Edit: I am referring to the basic claw games you see at most American arcades.

    1:58 That's some uh... interesting math there my dude. 5000? 1 mil divided by 2000 is 500. Added an extra 0 there.

      I just did the math like this: $2 per game, spent $1000. 1000 divided by 2 is 500.

      @@Tomiply Either way works, lmao. That's just where my brain went first for the math.

    i need lud to know that on toreba if you play the machines with an “assist available” ticker, what it basically is is if you spend enough TP at a machine, a worker will come in and “assist” by putting the prize in a position where next try is guaranteed. He said he liked the ping pong balls the best because they’re in a way guaranteed, and for streamers or anyone dropping mad TP this is also semi-guaranteed, could have cut a little of his losses lol

    I worked at an arcade for a few years. A lot of claw machine actually have settings for grip strength so that a machine doesn't give out too much product. Most actually have two: one for when the prize is picked up and another for when it is carried. This is so they can give you a rush of dopamine right before the toy slips from the claw.
