    Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Just wanted to share some really great news!
Today, on February 5, 2020, *I finally completed my screenplay!* It's been an ongoing process since June, 2018, and I've put hundreds of hours of work into it.
I'm really appreciative of all the videos on this channel. So much of the quality of the script would never be possible without the great advice and inspiration that these interviews provide. Really grateful! :)
I have hopes that this script will be produced someday, and hope it'll be seen as a very relevant movie for the times we live in, despite it being set in a fictive world (with some fantasy elements to it).
It touches upon a number of philosophical, political and moral questions that I think will make a great impact on the audience. :)
I hope it will provide some interesting insights on what it means to be human and what it means to lead a meaningful life.

BOOM! Congrats Stian! We're proud of you. We hope positive feedback comes in on the script and it puts some good things in motion for you. Keep creating!

Now comes the process of getting Professional Feedback, figuring out what part of that you can apply to your script. Getting more feedback, many more re-writes... and then it may be ready.
That's what discourages so many writers. The process. Some world famous Novelists and or Screenwriters do 15 re-writes before they even send it to their agent. "Most unsold writers" don't understand that when they say it is done...they are just beginning.

I don't base my writing on time. I write 500 words. Sometimes that's easy; sometime's not. First thing in the morning, write before anything else (with coffee).

2:48 Active/Passive voice is important in writing your loglines. These help you land agents, script managers, and sell your screenplays. An active logline can make the difference.

    • @danbee998
      @danbee998 Před 4 lety +3

My routine is different from most: I have a large series, so I have to do a lot of frontloading of work (e.g. create loglines for each screenplay in series, fill in some details, create and select cast for each script, and many more things). When it comes to actual writing, I try to eliminate distractions. I try to follow output schedules, but I am okay with over-performing and under-performing some days, if the quality-quantity mix doesn't diminish overall.

Works for almost anything! I did 2 hours a day of oil painting for a year and the before/after is stark.
Think about it this way, 2 hours a day for a year works out to about 18 weeks of 9-5'ing. How good do you think you'd be at X if it was your job for four and a half months? That's what you get from 2 hours a day if you do it right (seek new information, get feedback from others, etc). It's like putting yourself through an extra long summer internship.

I write when I'm up to it. And if I realize I haven't written for a couple of days I introspect to figure out why, and if that 'why' is justifiable in my mind. I think as a writer or in general in life, figuring the balance of when to push yourself and when to give yourself a pass is critical to your psychological and emotional health.

I try to write at least 4 hours a day and 10-15 hours on the weekend. I write at my lunch break every day, I come home and write 2 hours before I go to bed. The weekends I cut loose...I write all day Saturday and Sunday after church.

Just starting out. I warm up my mind 7:0O am.I think of the writing project im working on and review,.By the time i get up at ten,I try to work on a specific writing problem from the day before.Definitly harder One gets lazy of course. If I get stuck there, Ill think about differant writing components and often come up with a new and improved take on things. As a corollary to this,I sometimes see other logical or narative issues that need to he dealt with .2 steps forward one bk . Im making progress so far.. I think. I do nearly all of this in my head as I have some eye, text neck issues.

jmiogo I love your opinion and I agree with it :) But I am of those horribly fragile writers with an insane writing process. If it was possible to get a writing organ transplant I would get booked for that surgery. I sit there, I pace around, I never abandon my project, I am working ridiculously hard but there are no words. I am lying on the ground at 3 am on the day of the deadline. I have a wet flannel on my head. I have worked the whole time and I have zero words. Suddenly I've got it. I get up and write the whole thing and it is my best work. My process deserves being described in swear words, the work that I achieve is, unfortunately, worth it.

For the longest time I've wrote at night for around four hours each night. However recently I have been having problems with my laptop which forced me to move to using notebooks to write. Now, using my notebook, I write in the early afternoon for four hours. Sometimes when I feel depressed I fail to meet my routine, but more often than not I power through and do the work anyway.

I also have a writing routine, two houra everyday. And it's okay to break it sometimes. There's day that doesn't go smoothly, and you'll just frustrate yourself thinking thatvyou didn't attend that routine, when in fact you can do it in another time. Like Picasso said, "Learn the rules like a pro, and break them like an artist."

my writing routine is to write a scene a day. i realized that a screenplay takes a long time to write so i take my time and write one good scene a day. personally if i write for at least a hour, the rest of the week i’ll feel burnt out and don’t want to write anymore. so i take it one step at a time.

If the only thing you do is work and come home, your free time should be used on developing new ideas. That's how you stay "ahead."
If you are constantly on set, or actively away from home, then that is more reasonable. Personal Opinion. I do acknowledge that writing is not easy. And everyone writes at their own pace.
