With the exception of Jar Jar Binks, I agree. I think George Lucas tried to infuse *way* too much "humor" into these films and a lot of that fell flat for me. I don't overly care for episodes I and II but episode III is my second favorite movie of the whole franchise, right behind The Empire Strikes Back. Even though I am not the biggest fan of episodes I and II, you're right, the amount of hate the prequel trilogy gets is really extreme and undeserved.

Proven to be a flawed premise, I think, since so many Jedi were turned to the dark side by the horrors of the Clone Wars. Raising infants in solitude far away from evil thoughts and deeds coddles them, leaves some of them unable to cope when they get out in the real world.

25:58 Technically, they're both meditating. Jedi attune to the Force through a calm spirit, which is what Qui-gon is doing.
Sith, on the other hand, attune to the Force through powerful emotion, which is what Maul is doing. He's pacing and focusing his anger and hatred of the Jedi.
Obi-wan is the only one doing neither, standing at the ready in the back.

  • @lordmortarius538

"Is that Natalie Portman? It's her or Keira Knightley I do get them confused"
You are correct. When both were done up in the Queen Amidala makeup not even their own mothers could tell them apart.
Ep. 1 is very clear to see that Lucas made it as a kids film, while Ep. 2 is more of an intrigue/mystery film (that gets caught up a little bit too much in its own mystery). Ep. 3 is the best of the prequels by far.
Individually, Sith are more powerful than Jedi in 1v1 situations, it's why Obi-Wan was trying to get to his master before the force shield closed. And I believe that the fight scene footage with Maul and Obi-Wan was either slowed down, or the actors had to redo it slower because execs thought that people would never believe anyone could fight that fast.
It's also very very sad what happened to Jake Lloyd after this film, he got bullied relentlessly at school by other kids, and grew up to have run-ins with the police and heavy drug usage. Turns out he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia for most of that time and is finally getting the help he needs, but damn, such a great kid actor whose life was sadly not so great :(
Also, if you like the podracing, you can get the Star Wars Episode 1: Racer game on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch :D It's pretty dang good.
One of my favorite memes is from this too, a shot of Qui-Gon and Maul fighting on Tatooine, captioned: Jesus Christ fighting Satan during his 40 days in the Judean Desert, colorized

The only problem with TCW is it drags on longer than I think it needed to, and has a lot of changes made to lore and characters that feel like borderline fan-fiction. I've tried watching the show numerous times and it just is not my cup of tea. I also feel it is unfair to say that the show helps explain Revenge of the Sith because thsi show was made AFTER the trilogy was complete, and therefore they could add whatever they wanted to try to connect it to the films. We must judge the trilogy films as they were meant to be when they first aired: Their own story, existing as part of the film series and not supplemented by anything else. To me, all the TV shows and books that have been made since feel like fan fiction, and us SW fans are allowed to pick and choose what expanded material we want to invest ourselves in. I don't like things being shoe-horned in to the lore, though, like how The Mandalorian paid fan service to TCW, therefore making it even more canon than I want it to be.

I don’t think it’s necessary to watch Clone Wars to enjoy the trilogy. Revenge of the Sith is already quite enjoyable on its own, the Clone Wars simply fleshed it out more. Lucas created a whole team just for CGI which got to throw all their creations into the third film and is still a working effects team to this day. But also stretched the market for practical effects builders by having several teams of them working on their own projects for each part of the first two prequels which culminate in the biggest world building I've seen in any franchise (pod race stadium, Kamino facilities, genosian arena, all practical sets miles ahead of what the originals started)

Kids are usually taken from their parents and trained as Jedi when they're still 4 or 5 years old or when they start showing signs of affinity for the force. It's typically to cut the child off from attachments such as family/friends before they become attached. As Yoda said "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." The Jedi mean to cut the younglings from such attachments so they don't wander down a path to the dark side. Yoda and Windu agreed that Anakin was too old because he showed early signs of fear due to his attachments to his mother and friends.

I can't ever understand why that isn't perfectly obvious to everyone. Same actor, same voice, same face (just without make-up here) & similar robes. And it's a character in a political power situation. Duh! Thank you for being one of those that sees the obvious. You also spotted that there was something off with the Queen & her maiden right away, too. And I loved it that you so often predicted what was gonna be said & also happen. You can see it coming if one pays attention, TPM is pretty straight forward.
Since you enjoyed TPM as much as you did you're gonna like the others most certainly more. Don't worry, you will see how & why Anakin turns, that's what these prequels are all about. And your prayer about Jar Jar might be heard, too. Maybe not death but... just less in it. Trust me, you belong to a vast majority that are very annoyed by Jar Jar, being annoyed by him is perfectly normal. I was in fact surprised you found him funny for as long as you did. For most it takes not even a minute, he's just too much & drags all sense of seriousness down & TPM suffers from it.

There were even articles before TPM coming out, back in 1998, that interview him announcing he would return as the young Emperor. This was never hidden or any secret.

When I was reviewing the 1st Episode I noticed some interesting details:
    - When Anakin tells Qui-Gon that he wants to visit every star/planet, it will come true in future episodes, but in a figurative sense!
-Anakin calls Padme an Angel, they really exist in the universe
    - During the race you may have noticed an "alien with white skin and a horse tail" in the background...So this is Orra Sing, a mercenary who hunts Jedi and is of great importance in some seasons of the Clone Wars
    - Ja-Ja Binks is not who he seems...
    - Greedo who taunted Eni before the race will become Jabba the Hutt's smuggler like Han Solo in the future)
    - Initially Yoda was in the form of a doll and not CGI

28:36 It's not that Yoda foresaw it. Notice how he says "Grave danger I fear in his training", eventhough earlier in the film, he admonished Anakin for harboring fear for his mom's safety. You know, the whole "Fear leads to anger" speech? Yoda and the Jedi are acting quite hypocritical, and that's kind of the point. It's a self-fullfilling prophecy. They distrust and reject a brigh, selfless boy, who wants to help everyone he comes across, because of arbitrary reasons, so why would that boy trust them, when he will be the one in need of help?

So, the heads of the Trade Federation, as I recall, are a species called 'nemoidian,' and I gather at least one of their worlds is called Caito Nemoidia. I only just now noticed that their race may be named in tribute to Leonard Nemoy (R.I.P), Star Trek's famous Mr. Spock.
I have previously noticed their resemblance to one of the species in the cantina scene of Episode IV, but I believe those were called 'duro,' so maybe they are just distantly related.
