--------------------------------------------------------------------
In the sixth and final episode of Car Trek series 6, AutoTempest challenges the guys to get to a point on a map with no roads surrounding it. Simple, yet quite challenging for anything not made for off-roading. Tyler's Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler is like a billy goat that can go over anything, Ed's Porsche Cayenne was built for some serious terrain, but Freddy's Mitsubishi Montero, with its highway tires and spare isn't fit for...anything. Or is it?

Merry Christmas! To Tavarish’s family, it wasn’t dangerous at all and it was just good acting. Also if anyone is wondering the flight time for a Dji mini 2 at 12000 feet and active blizzard conditions is about 11 minutes before it freezes and falls out of the sky.
Merry Christmas Man!
Hope you got DJI refresh. Lol
Hahaa. LiPo batteries don't do well in cold or at elevation. If you warm the batteries first, it helps a little. Merry CHRISTmas to the whole crew!
Best car Trek yet. Merry Christmas Tyler, Ed and Freddy. Enjoyed all your channels this year. Season Greetings from Canada.
Merry Christmas Jared!!
Ed wins WITHOUT cheating. The most surprising result in the history of CarTrek! 😂😂
Ed did well. Deserved win
Deutschland!
It's a Christmas miracle! 🙏
Not getting caught doesnt mean he didnt cheat
Thanks for the spoiler
Ed's Porsche has the same vibe as Jeremy Clarkson's Continental GT, and I am really digging it.
I think that’s the point!
I really think it's the same platform. Basically the VW Touareg is built on the same platform as the Continental GT, Cayenne and Q7, so it would make sense to have the same vibe :)
Gotta a vw touareg v8 it's a beast
Hahahah... Right? They look sweet.
@Darrin Noble (D In Colorado) Kinda fun ypu commented this. I need a car for work with either a truck bed or a rack on top, and I found it was cheaper to recreate thia than to buy a mediocre truck. I am looking to sell my classic and buy a cayanne as soon as I return from vacation, and I already have a ton of browser tabs open of cayannes lol.
I love that the other two were probably cold as f, stuck in the snow, and ED's sitting there with his heated seats on and light jacket wondering what the issue is
Why would anyone besides hoover be cold?
And that Jeep is sooooo cold 😂
Why would the Mitsubishi be cold? It was a fully loaded 20th edition. Even if it wasn’t fully loaded, he would be warm in a base Montero. The only one who was cold was the Jeep
Apparently, none of you have been in a jeep wrangler with a soft top. They get extraordinarily hot inside very quickly.😂
First off, Ed won fair and square, weird to say outloud. 2."Tyler Wins" is hilarious, even when he loses. 3.The NEXT Trek should be more a mystery to you three. So no PRE-Planning and sandbagging certain cars. Starting off with a text and money ALLOCATED to each of you to get a vehicle purchased and prepared for the adventure. Take us with you to the lot, selection process, the critical maintenance done to each car, then finally a small budget to UPGRADE that vehicle. Whether its a speed challenge, off roading challenging, or a track day, bring us with you through the process. What would be a nice touch would be a track day with some racers that could teach you some tricks to improve your technique. No STIG, just a well known teacher/racer that can add to the final judgement of WHO WINS!! But mainly have a budget, stick to the budget, penalize those who exceed the budget. Maybe mix in a Ghost Adventure in a haunted house or an abandoned mental hospital for shits and giggles, cause these 3 dudes would be comedy gold in a scary scenario. Good job Guys...this was a great adventure...keep'em coming.
Like every other reality show, this was extensively pre-planned.
Yeah. "Autotempest tasked us to buy cars using their site" 2 of them were owned for years :) i dont hate the jurrasic jeep but still.
Yeah this is a good idea. Let's see how you can ACTUALLY use auto tempest! 😉
ehhh production is a real thing, you need time to prepare for a shoot that is costing tons of $s per hour so you can't be losing cars left and right.
Yeah, drop them in a large car lot with a stack of cash. You have two hour to claim the cars you see at asking price.
Less Autotempest proof though.
Tyler, Freddy, Ed,
This has got to be my favorite Car Trek to date. What a fun challenge. I enjoyed the 3 different car type idea. Here is a suggestion for you next Car Trek.
Put several car brands in a hat and each of you draw out one. Then have to buy your car of the brand you drew. A limited budget to repair them, points subtracted for the amount over budget. Then do a coast to coast. A Cannonball, but not at Cannonball speeds. Each segment will be timed, with penalty for time lost for repair. The winner will be whoever has the least amount of penalty for repairs and going over budget.
I like this, Hooptie Survivor!
I agree. Cheap budget cannonballing.
Jared (their mechanic) laughs in school bus cannonball run.
Good idea
I really like this idea. Ed would be like a kid on Christmas morning!
When offroading, tires are everything. The foundation you build that rig on. That Montero would have kept up all day long with some good AT or MT tread on there.
Exactly. They kept mocking the montero like it is incapable but only thing it needed was some decent offroad tyres, I dont do offroading but i got better tyres than that montero (I have a 2006 mitsubishi l200 pickup truck 4x4)
A locking differential like the Porsche seemed to have is very helpful, but otherwise, agreed.
@@Dozav7 the Mitsubishi pajero or shogun both had locking diffs, center and rear! (Jdm and edm cars) I thought it was the same car just rebranded?
100% agreed. I’ve owned 4 Jeeps and tires is always one of the first mods I do!
@@Dozav7 I was surprised the Porsche had a locking diff, I have a 4Runner which is pretty well marketed as an off roader and I don’t have one(even though some trims do.) Interesting that a unibody suv has one
You always knew things were the most "real" when Top Gear had to get the production crew involved on camera to save them. This is probably my favorite episode yet fellas
Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you so much for watching and supporting us this year. What did you think of the series? What can we do better?
Merry Chrysler
Maybe have 8 Episodes in the next season and Merry Christmas
Do a series when you all buy cheap BMW’S
Hanukkah special next year 😊
Ok
13k feet in a blizzard and Ed is rolling up his sleeve's 🤣
Ed didn't have an issue through the entire event, definitely liked his commercial the best. That Cayenne didn't miss a beat, with heated seats, and working heater.
I know it’s writing and dramatics played out but it’s kinda Crazy to think that he stuck to the budget this car trek and had no problems
cayenne would win most of them had rear and mid lock diff + esp braking to simulate front diff lock. it doesn't look as capable off roader but if it isn't broken it would beat the wrangler
@@altergreenhorn I believe that first generation has a full locker. One flip back it locks front and back and one more flip and it locks left and right as well.
I need a Cayenne to go with my Cayman!
I could feel the stress Freddy was having in this video 😂 in contrast Ed looked way too calm and comfortable in the Cayenne haha. I've been wanting to take my Cayenne to the snow, after seeing this, it makes me wanna go ASAP!
The Cayenne was so much fun to watch.
at what point do you just push the Mitsubishi off the cliff....
I love that they talked so much crap about the Montero, but it made it the whole way on 0 maintenance, 0 mods, and street tires. Much love to Mitsubishi.
To me the montero is the best by far none of the other trucks wouldn't make it in those conditions
Everybody knows that Japanese 4wd’s are the best by far. They simply make the most reliable and durable vehicles.
But it still had issues along the way
I'd have to disagree with you on it being the best and outperforming the Jeep Jeeps were specifically made for this terrain they don't do great in any other terrain now I'm not going to say the Japanese off-roaders aren't great but they ain't superiors in a jeep that's just not how it works now I am impressed on stock tires so no the Montero is not better than the Jeep better than the Porsche yes it would have definitely made it farther stock than the Porsche ever would have stock but the jeep is a no that honestly was kind of a cheat of they were officially doing a off-road contest.
The Mitsubishi made it, but they had to wait hours for Freddy to reach them😅 I’m a fan of old school japs. I wish he came prepared
Ed winning made 100% sense to me. Tyler and Freddy used too much Ed math to make their collections fit the 30k budget lol
True, but we call it Ed math for a reason.
Nobody :-
Tavarish :- I'm gonna do this in 2WD 🤣
.
.
with highway tyres 👌
With the right tires he could have easily keep up with the Jeep.
Also Tavarish: "Imma go fertilize the firs"
@@WouterB76 He could keep with the right tyres yes but cayenne would win most of them had rear and mid lock diff + esp braking to stimulate front diff lock
And less than half engine power from factory.
@@WouterB76 blown headgasket says he wouldn't.
Tyler's understanding of Colorado mountain geography and elevations matches the quality of Freddie's tires.
I do plan on running that trail this next year, not in the snow though...
Do you know what the name of the trail was (previous episode too)? Looks like it'd be a fun one to do in good weather.
@@bcyr-CO Peak 10, FS Rd 751 IIRC. No idea on condition of trail, I was planning on running in it late September
All in and around Breckenridge, CO…at elevations much less than 14k ft. Pikes Peak😂 The guys definitely need a geography lesson.
Excellent series. I love how it paid homage to the trio of James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond (OG Top Gear/Grand Tour). Yet, it didn't try to hard to replicate and still has its own flavor. Well done guys. 👏 Can we get a season 7? 🙏
Agreed
Driving UP is the easy part. Turning around when you have deep snow on the sides is the wors part for sure. I almost lost my truck until spring in the Rockies doing this very thing. The trail kept deteriorating and there was no place to turn back at all. I buried my Titan to the frame. I dug and dug for 8 hours and only managed to get more stuck. The only way I got out was by chance having my skis and boots in the bed. I had to ski out 8 miles in the dark to get rescued. Almost had hypothermia. Only the sounds of my cursing at the top of my lungs got me rescued by a squirrely rancher who thought I had set off one of his booby traps. He came at me guns drawn. 10/10 do not recommend. I lost all interest in offroading at that point. Now I drive a mustang that cant make it over a driveway.
Glad you made it out!!! I'm curious though, no snow chains/winch or other recovery equipment on the Titan? These three seemed ill-prepared for their Car Trek Finale to the Summit in the conditions. 🤨🤔
This is the best comment I've read in a long time. Glad ya made it out safe haha
@@RollinwithRoland they clearly didn’t know the conditions would be that bad if you had payed any attention
Felt like a reddit comment
A Nissan Titan? Not exactly what I'd choose to go up a mountain trail... big trucks are for towing and hauling.
The Montero (Pajero) has a solid reputation as on off-roader around the world. Might not have that reputation in the US, which was evident by the mocking of the car by Tyler. The fact that it made it that far with the most miles, a blown head gasket and highway tires is impressive.
I had an 03 montero and I miss that truck. With AT tires like the other 2, it would have kept going. With the same 12k budget as the cayenne, it could have had its head gasket repaired and better tires.
Completely incompetent driver and road tires this was an unfair test, Montero's are great cars
@@jitterspec except it isnt a truck.
Currently have a 04 with a blown head gasket, even with the all seasons it has, it's pretty good off roading, with better tires it'd be great
Freddie could gotten a 25 year old land-cruiser or lexus clone with proper tires and won the whole thing
Loved seeing the 200 series support vehicle with the producers in it. That's the real rig. Love Ed's Porsche Cayenne though.
Ed definitely deserved the win here. As for next season: spy car on a budget. Must be classy, fast, long-distance, and have one gadget per challenge to help get away from whatever antagonist agency is trying to kill you.
Would love to see one where they get “orphan brand” cars (i.e. SAAB, AMC, Saturn, Pontiac, etc.)
Oooh now that’s a great idea.
Suzuki.
I like it! Any vehicle brand that has been closed down, no longer imported, or sells less than some number of cars per year in the US. Maybe like 10,000 or something less than the typical Ferrari, Lamborghini exotics numbers per year.
Yes, this! Although you know one of the boys'll get a DeLorean if they go for it lol. Not like parts will be unavailable, luckily, if there's still enough new old stock left.
I concur! Seeing how some of the brands that were more recently lost would be cool. I’m an avid Saab fan myself.
The fact that Freddy managed to make it as far as Ed and Tyler with very old motorway tires is just a testament to how good the Pajero (or Montero) really is as a jeep.
Love how Ed is the only calm one. Just cool and relaxed like always. He's the only real driver out of the bunch.
I love how the oldest and least advanced vehicle seems to be doing the best out of the bunch. Love the Jeep!
Other then the square headlights 😂. I love my 06 tj headlights
I mean it really makes sense, that car was built for exactly what they were doing. The Jeep is awesome, and it was really in it’s element.
Jeep best for that
Cause it was a war machine
Slap some proper A/T tires on the Montero and eat your words.
I'd love to see the guys pull an old top gear and do a build challenge. Anyone else remember Jeremy, James, and Richard making their own amphibious cars and trying to cross the English Channel?
Let's be honest the top gear lads didn't do any mods to the cars other than spray paint or breaking things off
Does anybody remember???? Are you fucking kidding me? Those two episodes are iconic!!!!
I think a twin engine build would be cool
Next Season: The 3 should be dropped in different locations of a foreign country alone with nothing but a budget of $5,000 from there they must race to find a car and get to a landmark on the other side of the country while accomplishing various tasks along the way.
Yup. If they want to be great.. it's time to leave the US and really challenge themselves. A challenge like this episode is a good start.
At least the same country. If they arent together there wont be the same great dynamics they have
So, the Amazing Race, Car Trek Edition? I liked that show back in the day, I could go for that.
Ok, so go buy a Hilux and win.
Love this idea!
Freddie: I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Me, watching from my easy chair: Except your tires, right?!?
I bet Ed had to convince himself not to go for all Porsches: 911, Panamera, Cayenne.
The Montero did surprisingly well despite having awful tires, a stock ride height, a blown headgasket and weighing much more than the jeep or the porsche. It's the real winner of the offroad challenge IMO
I was thinking the same thing .
Them Pajero/Montero are way underrated.
The driver could’ve been better lol “I’m sliding” but my foot is “welded” to the brake pedal. Pump man! You don’t ever just hold the brake
@Lexus Es remember, he’s from a state that’s almost entirely under 100’ elevation & snow is rare. I doubt he learned to drive in anything more severe than heavy rain!
The Monteiro is basically Mistubishi's Land Cruiser. I'm not sure why Tyler was trying to make fun of it.
If Freddy had just removed the side skirts and managed to get a set of decent AT’s, it would have been a night and day difference. Wouldn’t have solved all the issues but would have made a big difference.
Or lowering the tire pressures a bit at least?
@@RollinwithRoland yup
He could keep with the right tyres yes, but cayenne would win most of them had rear and mid lock diff + esp braking to stimulate front diff lock
Definitely, Montero would easily be the most capable.
As a Born and Raised Coloradan who loves 4wheeling in the mountains and has driven this trail, this episode is the perfect example of what happens when you take a Floridian wheeling. Wrong vehicle, and freaking out on a side hill trail. Not saying this trail is easy, but it's made so much worse with such an under capable factory spec vehicle. Good job being a true Florida-man this time, Freddy. All the laughter and love!
I have no fingernails left watching you guys negotiate that return down the mountain. Holy crap!
Best CarTrek so far. Y’all need to really keep this going, this is the one true American Top Gear, and I think the Brit’s would agree!
As a Brit, I would agree.
Another agreeing Brit here 👍🏼 🏴
As an englishman, i can confirm the brits do agree
It is way better than the new u.k top gear too.
So much better than American Top Gear that aired years ago.
For me this series was the best so far by having multiple cars, just wish it was more of a secret what you were going to be using as it builds suspense for the next episodes and makes me want to watch on
You know Ed is already thinking about finding the car with the “best” story behind it.
My wife and I once went up a logging road in Utah... shortly after May 1st. As we climbed, there was more and more snow on the road. I convinced my wife we could keep going... "It's a SUV, we can make it! It's adventure time!".
Came across a mound of snow and two ruts... gave it "full send" and got high-centered on the snow.
We spent 30 minutes trying to dig ourselves out... until a big 4x4 came along and was able to tow us off the mound of snow.
You guys made the right choice to abandon... :D
I am definitely not a “how the sausage is made” girl, but I would love to see a behind the scenes of this show. I would like to see the camera setups, the safety measures, etc. This is so well shot.
lol your thinking about sausage
Probably safety as the 21st priority
"how the sausage is made" what the hell is that saying 🤣
Yes me too, id like to also see what the film crew brought, as they didnt have the same limits🤔
Where the hell did that saying come from 😂
I will Admit the Cayenne S Looks pretty slick. I'm curious on how the upgrades stresses the drivetrain and fuel mileage.
The main companies, Forge and Eurowise, that mod the lift also have upgraded control arms, sway bars, subframe drops, bushings etc that reduce stresses but big tyres off-roading will suck juice! I’ve got a Gen1 turbo with upgraded wheels and tyres - it’s plenty good stock and still retains its speed and economy. Great fire trail bombers!
X5 will do same job
yes, all 3 cars are cool, the jeep is in its natural element, the cayenne was performing above and beyond, and the Montero would have made it if they would have aired down and kept going.
Next time take an experienced off-roader with you, and you'll toast your courage at the top....
My cayenne turbo with lift and roof rack at uses 15 ltrs per 100 km or basically 15mpg @60mph ..but use it with aggression and 9mpg!
@@paulscape72 good to know. I've been looking into building an off-road vehicle. I actually considered an 01 to 07 Montero. Seems to be good one to do upgrades on. My concern was weight and tipping over. Sold my 16 Expedition I had that was basically setup like a Raptor, but without solid axles. I got myself in situations where I felt like it was going to tip over. I think I would have the same issue with a Montero. The Cayenne though is wider. And it would go with my German Built S6. But the Montero would go with my Japanese built 240 with an SR20DET that I race at Hallet
Ed weens! Hands down. Two Porsches and an AMG Mercedes. THAT’S a dream garage!
Fun to see the old Jeep doing its thing especially with the Jurassic livery. I do have to say though. Where they finally got “stuck” was not the limit of any of those vehicles. There a few more tricks in the bag you can use as an off-roader to push farther. That just comes with experience.
Just the fact that Ed didn't cheat gives him the win! Awesome series. Already waiting for S7!!!!
Can’t keep my eyes off Ed’s cayenne; I absolutely love that thing
That was fun to watch, you all winners in my eyes. The next challenge should be a compact car challenge, see who could do the best miles per gallon, obstacle curse or something that will put a little commuter car to a real challenge and (of course) not too expensive.
Freddy was fully committed to this. And regardless of whatever off-road guys may brag about. Doing that in a street suv. Would make anyone nervous
Let's see.... What have we learned? Honestly, that Montero did an amazingly competent job! The Cayenne looks and actually performs awesome as an off roader! And a Jeep is a Jeep.
The Cayenne/Touareg family from 2004-2010 were very impressive vehicles. You get the sense that you can never catch them off guard. They're happy cruising at autobahn speeds, doing the school run, towing 7,000lbs in the mountains, or doing offroad trails. Truly some of the best SUV's made in my opinion.
They had great recepy vehicles but not good engineering. Mine turned to crap not long after. 911 is totally different. Just compare Cayenne and 911.And as of this Cayenne with off road preparation wond be good on high speeds
@@GeorgiGeorgiev-ne9ps I've had my Touareg new since 2009, its just the regular 3.6 VR6, but fully loaded with air suspension, locking diffs, power liftgate, heated steering wheel and 4 zone climate etc. I've had 3 legitimate problems with it in the 150,000 miles I've had it, 2 were under warranty and 1 was an alternator a few months back. Otherwise I do my maintenance myself and it's never given up on me, and I constantly tow well over it's rating. Last week I towed 10,000lbs with it for 2 hours at highway speeds. Anyways, of course once you modify something, you're risking many factors. If you keep it to intended design, it's hard to beat these things. With road tires, they can embarrass many dedicated offroaders.
@@brandonfriesen5389 Agree but the Q7 Audi 3.6 same engine didnt hold up well/ Highly spec but suspension, interior and electric system got to a nightmare point. Engine itself is pretty reliable altogether with the quattro drivetrain. I am Audi fan but the 2000+ era all my VAG cars didnt hold up well. I know someone with GTS Cayenne and it is the single worst car to me in terms of reliability. Performance is great. Also performance dont neet to be traded for reliability (Porsche 911 - all of them)
@@GeorgiGeorgiev-ne9ps how many miles did ur cayenne have? What turned to crap? (Out of curiosity) Besides the coolant hoses and a worn driveshaft support bearing I’ve had no problems on my 06 turbo s
@@Chrysaor_ i dont have Cayenne but someone I know well has (GTS). I think 72k miles. Well maintained. Just didnt hold up.
Might have helped to air down the tires a bit, but what a show. Congrats on making it out alive 😁
Freddy really needs a “Keeps” sponsorship
I just said the same thing to my dad💀
"The grout of the collection" is the best definition of a Montero ever. 😆 😆 🤣 😂
Someone else said it already, but to reiterate - SHOW US YOUR CAR SEARCH/BUYING PROCESS. Also please show us what you went through fixing them up. There's so much fun and content there that we miss!
Suggestions aside, I love car trek and can't wait for season 7!
That was legitimately scary to watch. With all the scripted parts of car trek, it was pretty clear that was no BS dangerous. I can’t wait to hear the inside story on vinwiki.
As someone who has been driving a 95' YJ for several years now, the YJ wins without even trying. I've put mine through hell and back, and it takes it just asks for more. I hit a rock wall with a little too much skinny peddle and tore both front shackles off the frame. I still managed to climb the rock wall and drive it back to the shop. Then fixed it with scrap metal and a welder. It's better than new now!
I'd love to see you 3 do a cannonball run. Get Ed his record back!
This!… but sub $20k EVs 😂😂
Breaking the cannonball after the record was smoked during pandemic lockdowns would be incredibly difficult
Pretty sure they don’t want to videotape illegal activity.
Car Trek is hands down the best auto series going these days. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
You know what I love about these videos: It’s just 3 car dudes being silly with cars.
Honestly, best car trek season ever Holy shit. It baffles me that top gear can't produce the same results.
Thanks for showing the realness of this by including producers and ancillary people. Really upped the suspense! Really felt the Top Gear/Grand Tour from this episode, in the best way possible
I gotta say that Cayenne is really looking good, and it faced the mountain extremely well.
You know, Tyler mentioned the montero rotting if it died.
Funny thing is, I grew up around a fairly heavily forrested area, and there was an old rusted out beetle in the middle of the trees. I honestly have no idea how it got there but it mostly disintegrated in the 20 years I hiked through those hills.
This has to be my favorite season...such a variety of experiences!!
Every spring, we here in the CO mountains get a ton of rock-crawler Jeeps passing through to UT and it absolutely cracks me up that they think their hard-compound rock tires will work on frozen pavement, ice, and snow. Watching Freddie attempt that trip in highway tires, I was very worried. Glad you made it back down.
Yup! Absolute junk in snow. You need bare min M+S tires or better 3 peak mountain snowflake tires.
Rock crawlers don't have hard compound tires. Many are non DOT approved special sticky (extra soft) compounds.
@@garettodd3037 Doesn't matter how soft the compound is. You need a tire with many sipes and flexibility while allowing for removal of snow/water.
@@shawnd567 I was just letting Mike know that rock tires are very soft compounds. Didn't want him to be misinformed, thinking they were hard
I'm near Durango and see them all the time going to Moab😂
My favorite car trek series so far. I’d like to see you guys do the Baja 1000 in an upcoming car trek, or the 3 of you co-pilot something very obscure in a c2c cannonball run.
Or have a car trek where they have to get cannonball cars for a certain price (including any mods) and actually stick to it; and whoever gets there first wins. Tyler brings wizard, tavarish brings Jared, and Ed brings, well, whoever he wants. Probably Doug.
I love this series, keep up the good work fellas. I hope that you continue to see succeed and one day can do CarTrek full time and fill the Clarkson-May-Hammond era top-gear shaped hole in my heart.
I've had this exact scenario in a Unimog 404; sliding backwards on an icy trail over a cliff. This video almost made me sick with anxiety memories, but the relief when you make it down is like nothing else. Thanks guys for the nightmare memories!
Keep making episodes on old crappy cars that break. Those are more fun to us and relatable. Show is becoming more and more interesting.
People don't watch CZcams to be ReLaTaBLe.
@@littlejackalo5326 Apparently at least six of us do.
@@littlejackalo5326 doofus
@@littlejackalo5326 I believe roadkill was so popular because it was relatable.
Isn’t that summit at 11,440’ and Pikes at 14,115. I guess they used the same magic math Tyler used to calculate the purchase price of his cars 😂
summit was 13,357
And how is that taller than pikes peak
@@chewbacaboose1493 Elevation gains?
@@chewbacaboose1493 it's not, Tyler was wrong
Living in Colorado i had to rewind and be like, that's not right
I'll admit I was scared when Freddy started slipping. when ur seeing snow started covering the parth and its whiteout on a clif its time to turn back guys
One of the most captivating pieces of youtube content I have ever watched.
This opened my eyes to the potential of a budget Porsche adventure rig.
I was going to comment the same thing.
They’re great cars for on and off-road! I’ve got the turbo - if I was doing more serious over landing or technical 4wd I’d buy a landcruiser though.
A Crosstrek is also fairly capable. Really needs about the same done to it. Raise it. Wheels and tires. Maybe get rid of sway bars.
The Cayenne is a legit off roader. The air suspension can get you 12 inches of ground clearance. The only downside with them is they aren't incredibly reliable and are generally expensive to properly maintain. Still cool though 😎
That snow trek is our average drive to work here in Wisconsin 😅
On a serious note, fantastic work guys! This whole series is a blast to watch 😂
lol chicken shits in the snow I'd say...try driving thru Detroit Jan thru March
You should prove this by climbing the vert same mountain on a bagged brz
@@richardbaumgart2454 yep they chicken like alot of the drivers here in uk any sign of snow they freak out
@@youtube2kwatcher same as the southerners here like these guys
Minus the elevation lol
I’m so happy I found this channel. As an OG top gear fan (All 23 seasons on a hard drive) this pays a beautiful homage to the greatest car show ever. You guys are a blast to watch.
The music/sounds during this episode were amazing. Love the content!
Would be fun to see a Car Trek where you can’t use any of the “popular” enthusiast manufacturers from their respective categories and have to love the unloved. So foregoing Mercedes/BMW/Porsche/Jeep etc. in favor of the AMCs, Mini Coopers, Volvos, SAAB, Datsun etc. just to see what kind of crap your can dredge up.
I dunno that Datsun doesn't count as an enthusiast car, the Fairlady platform is one of the most iconic JDM platforms out there.
I do agree tho, would love to see someone show up in a volvo 240 or 242 sedan.
+2 for any Toyota Sienna with every available plasti-chrome from the Walmart automotive section.
that Wrangler was an AMC yo
saab 9-3 are great cars
That Cayenne is legitimately impressive...I ran into a fully stock one out in Moab running some of the easier trails while I was in my lifted Xterra, and I was shocked that the thing made it to the same places I did with hardly any ground clearance...I could totally see why someone would want to lift one if they got a good bargain on a used one...
You can do the same thing with a second gen RAV4. I’ve gotten mine into places that fully lifted Toyotas and Jeeps have gone.
@@General_Ethos Sure, but then you'd still be stuck driving a RAV4 🤣😝
@@AJvsEverything 🤣
The dirty secret of off-roading is that modern vehicles with independent suspension and torque vectoring etc are way more capable. The issue is that technology lacks the caveman factor you need for absolute reliability. For an extreme example, check out a rock bouncer with independent suspension called The Outlaw. It is an amazingly capable vehicle that holds its own against traditional solid axle machines, but it handles the same courses with a lot more smoothness and precision.
I love Tyler’s Jeep always been a super fan of the movie, but damn Ed’s Porsche has me looking for a Porsche to put an even bigger 4 inch lift on it.
Absolutely love the AT series. It really shows how much fun you each have in the last 6 adventures!
That montero was super impressive. No drama out of the Porsche with those tires either. Great videos
Getting a hot button for the mic onto the steering wheel would probably be a good idea so that they can keep 2 hands on the wheel rather than 1 on the radio.
Like in police cars (here in England anyway)
The only problem ig is that it probably costs quite a bit especially for all the cars in one season
For 9 cars, maybe. But it's likely a small amount compared to the overall budget of the show.
True
Just like in hiking or rock climbing, it pays to remember, often it is easier to go up than to come down.
Love seeing Ed in his Leather jacket on the side of a mountain in winter , :)
What a journey! Had so much fun watching this series; I've been waiting for offroading stuff from the trio for a while!
Agreed. Too bad they were unprepared. Oh wait, we kinda expect that out of this crew, don't we?
Tyler still owes me $100 from that brilliant valet job 😉
Just as good as cash
You'll make it up in CZcams views now after the exposure! Hahaa! Good work.
I wonder what it could get on eBay if framed!?
@@ttopero haha I still have it in my backpack somewhere I think. $2000 🤔
@@VINwiki pretty much the same thing! My bank disagrees, though
Love the series. That Jeep has been one of my dream cars since I was kid. Who wouldn’t want to role in the school parking lot in a Jurassic Park Jeep but all my 4x4 have been imports. Great season.
Ok are we gonna ignore the fact that these guys are the actual USA version of Top Gear/The Grand Tour
Ed: Jeremy Clarkson
Tyler: James May
Freddie: Richard Hammond
So… Collab?
I'd like to see a mpg challenge, see who can modify their car to be the most aero!
It would be interesting to see how much they could improve on the original mpg. The winner would be determined as the one with the largest percentage improvement from their original mpg.
The cars:
Hummer H1 with gas engine
70s land yacht
Ram TRX
@@yungboicontigo9278 what about a G55?
I second that request, highest MPG and drag coefficient challenge. Both have to be tested.
@@dmitrymalikov4613 there’s always gonna be 3 cars in car trek since there are 3 main characters in the show
This is hands down the best series I’ve ever seen, and in my opinion it makes me feel like I’m right there watching it.. good job to the camera crew and you guys, have a good Christmas!
This was by far the best season to date. I hope you guys keep making these over and over again. It is always fun to watch. Keep up the great work and I will do my best to use as many sponsors as possible if that helps.
This was really interesting these episodes. Much enjoyed. Looking forward to seeing more from this group.
As someone who off-roads as a hobby, this kind of stuff can be scary for people who have not experienced something like this. I feel for them, third eye puckering at it's finest.
Oh yeah. I went to an off road park in Texas hill country with essentially a 300K mile bone stock 93 K5 Blazer. The trails weren't marked the best and I got into an area with no good options. Saw a path down to the road that didn't look THAT bad...I was wrong. I bounced, slid, and bashed my bumpers on the way down. Got to the bottom and it was a 5 star trail, hardest in the park. Was definitely a pucker factor moment.
@@316Autos I've got a built jeep on 35s and that sounds like it would be a challenge lol
This is an access road..not really off road. It was cut for pickup trucks. Still a challenge for people not used to them.
The snow/ice made it fun though (where were their cables? )
@@316Autos Texas is flat. The were scared on falling off a mountain.
@@duanesamuelson2256 yea they just seemed a little inexperienced and unprepared.
no way would I sell my personal car collection... screw that! Now with that being said, I think Ed did a fantastic job on his Porsche SUV... it is very tastefully done and I'm digging it.
Much better then the last couple of outings. Honestly, better then the Grand Tours last few years efforts. Keep em coming lads!
Best car trek so far! You guys have really come a long way with the show, and I can't wait to see how much more you all grow
Car Trek: The road ends and the real trail starts here.
Me: trail? that’s a service road.
This series is so bloddy brilliant, I can't wait for the next one
A YJ for 6500?? I'll have one please - the average price on those things is 15k
I have watched all 6 seasons and have enjoyed each and every single one of em and I want u guys to keep making these hilarious and knowledgeable series… and the episodes are on par with Netflix series.. keep it up!
Was worried for you guys out there, until I saw the camera crew brought along a Land Cruiser, then I knew you guys would be alright
You really stepped up your game this time, the best Car Trek so far, rivalling the GREAT Top Gear specials of old. Well done!
Reminded me especially of the Bolivia special!
Lamborghini season!!! All 3 of you guys have them. Now show them off for what they can do.
This is wild watching these last two episodes. I've driven some of those trails and even hiked pikes peak when I was stationed in Colorado Springs back in 2015 . Brings back some awesome memories. Yall are awesome!
