  • Looking at artist Judith Schaechter’s stained-glass panels has been described as a “thrilling and disorienting” experience, like “seeing an old master painting of a car crash.” Watch to learn more about the artist’s masterful practice, pioneering spirit, and distinctly American, feminist interventions into the history of contemporary art, craft, and the medium of stained glass.
"The Path to Paradise" is the first survey and major scholarly assessment of this groundbreaking artist’s 37-year career. Organized by the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, the exhibition will be on view in Rochester, NY from February 16 through May 24, 2020, after which it will travel to two additional venues in the United States.

I started stained glass recently, and have found my niche. I've done woodworking, knife making, leather working, welding, oil painting, wood carving, and none hit the spot like stained glass.

"The Path to Paradise" opens at the museum where I work (Des Moines Art Center) in just two days; I'm excited about it! I think visitors are going to really enjoy the show.

I’m a beginner stained glass artist and I totally understand that feeling of “knowing” that glass is for you! It’s such an unbelievably beautiful medium filled with so much possibility. Your art is beautiful, thought provoking, and inspirational!

Art is like shit... everyone makes it and it's very rare to find an interesting piece of it! Most interesting pieces are also concerning. 👌

Absolutely beautiful! Judith is a extremely talented artist. To have the image in mind and to create it on that level is more than a craft even though it is. It is truly art on the highest level. Thank you for your gift. Most of us do not dedicate our time to make our dreams come true

Hi I am trying to learn stained glass work and have had some satisfying results (very modest ones) and a lot more dismal failures.I understand what you were talking about on how the glass colours lift your spirit in some inexplicable way.I have so many time restraints in my life but I could quite easily become obsessive with it. Thank you for posting this.I think you work is sublime. Technically great and artistically inspirational. Thanks
