- Ayyy man today I give my full thoughts on Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington at UFC 296 and how I believe it hurt the 170lb division with Leon and his team now claiming Belal Muhammad doesn't deserve a title shot, Gilbert Burns should be next and Shavkat Rakhmonov wasn't impressive against Stephen Wonderboy Thompson plus some passing thoughts on the rest of the card that I thought was pretty underwhelming. This got me curious on numbers so I decided to do some ufc math.
Leon Edwards Decision win history:
- 10 total wins by decision
- His 12 fight win streak consist of 9 decision wins (25% finish rate during his win streak)
- Out of his 14 ufc wins, 4 are finishes
Belal Muhammad Decision Win History:
- 11 total wins by decision
- His 9 fight win streak consist of 7 decision wins (22% finish rate during his win streak)
- Out of his 14 ufc wins, 3 are finishes
Whenever I hear about Belal Muhammad on social media, everyone roasts him about his decision wins and not being capable of finishes guys (pause). But when you look at Leon’s ufc history, they have pretty similar decision finishes.
I know this is just an “on paper” moment and there’s a lot of elements that go into a fight/wins but damn belal doesn’t deserve so much hate when the current champ has a similar history as the guy everyone hates on.

And the only reason the Colby fight was boring because it was Colby’s fault. Colby was backing up and not throwing anything the entire fight. Honestly both of them looked like shit. Leon didnt want to get finished by colby cos of the trash talk and looked hesitant, colby didnt want to get finished in front of trump and looked even more hesitant.
leon literally had the worst version of colby in front of him and he still looked cautious to engage despite coming forward. no one wants to talk about this, he also has zero power and finishing ability, and despite being under zero pressure and volume from colby and low volume himself he still looked tired in the later rounds, thats crazy!!!. In colbys case i was shocked leon is literally a weaker puncher than usman, woodley, lawler and masvidal but he was still so hesitant and unwilling to do shit. I do think the layoff fucked him up similar to usman 2 where he was hesitant in the first two rounds but won the last 3. In all honesty i thought colby won round 4 and 5 but he looked like a shell of himself so disappointing , he fumbled the bag badly cos he could have won this easily.
