Someone already posted the tumblr video to youtube, but I wanted to upload this at a higher quality so I put Acrophobia, Arachnophobia and Thalassophobia into Audacity and sped them up by 400% and the result is this.

Edit: The original post on tumblr did say "about" 700% but at that speed it sounds completely and quite frankly, not good for the ears. If you want to you can try it out in Audacity.

Fun fact: ONLY the last part where Arachnophobia switches to Thalassophobia isnt just "two songs put right next to each other". I had to sync up the melodies of both songs in order for the final product to sound much better. And fortunately, it did, haha.

Having this fast and cool song in a horror game kinda ruins the mood, especially since this boss cant be defeated (unless you do the hiki route)

I believe the reason that it was done that way was solely because it would feel out of place in the main art style. After all, most of the standard art is pencil sketches, so to go from pencil sketches to clay animation is... Jarring, in most cases.

Honestly I don't think anyone would've complained if these sped up versions were used over the normal ones in game. They still fit the tense nature of these "fights."
Yea, but still it doesn't fit with what vibe the game is exactly looking for. OMORI is psychological horror, and while these songs sped up are still pretty intense and scary to some extent, they'd fit better in a game that's supposed to have intense chasing parts and music, like Doors, Hello Neigbor, orher mascot horror games, etc.

@@totallynotmichael1137 In canon, fighting Something would imply that he completely and entirely defeated his trauma which is impossible to do, whether in hikki route where you ignore it, or good route where you can’t fight trauma like that and white space wouldn’t be there. Out of canon, same reason as the first, but also they probably couldn’t figure out how to fit it in game. It makes sense why it was scrapped.

For the Acrophobia scene, it looks like the stairs both go up and down. SOMETHING at the bottom of the stairs represents Mari falling, and most likely reaching er hand out desperately trying to grab onto anything. SOMETHING at the top of the stairs represents Sunny pushing her. It looks like the representation of what she last saw before she died on the stairs when she got pushed, because of the hands. The hands in game are all the same side, and it’s probably the hand sunny used to push Mari down

I like how in every phobia you can hear something "related" to it:
Acrophobia: The fear of high places, you can constantly a sound of something falling, and the entire song have somekind of anxiety feeling on it.
Arachnophobia: Fear of spiders, sounds eerie, fuzzy, scary, just like spiders. And you can hear some clicks on your ears, like there are spiders climbing on you.
Thalassophobia: Obviously enough, sounds like water, like you're drowning and desperately trying to go up to get some air. And you can't hear much of the instrumental till the end that seens you managed to reach the surface.

i think my favourite part about all of these tracks is how they're "built on the same ground" in a way, there are specific features of all three of these tracks that you can pick out, the main differences are whats actually done to the tracks and added over them... thats really cool honestly
They did something really genius with the music here, the songs represent the fears. The acrophobia one gives off the feeling that you’re falling from a high place (or stairs-), the arachnophobia one makes you feel like there’s a ton to tiny little spiders running around you, and the thalassophobia one sounds like you are underwater and unable to swim up to the surface as you slowly sink deeper and deeper
Edit: Forgot to add the fact that the beat sounds like a heartbeat, as if your heart is going a mile a minute (as if Sunny’s fears are your own)

i love the small unique elements to each themes, like the cartoonish falling sound effect for acrophobia, the screeching(?) of what could be insects struggling in a spider's web for arachnophobia (it's almost melodic), and the underwater sound effects that sounds like someone struggling or being submerged in water for thalassophobia. Really cool shit

Holy heck!! I expected these to sound just okay, mostly kinda weird, but this is amazing!! Legit sounds like a whole boss theme!!

Listening to it this way, you can really see how each track accurately depicts each of the fears they represent. Acrophobia slowly climbs in pitch and then slowly falls in pitch, almost to simulate falling and slowly reaching the floor as you do. Then arachnophobia is more chaotic and swarming, as if the music is slowly encroaching onto you and surrounding you. Finally, Thalassophobia drowns the music out under a heavy filter, only ever breaking as the beat kicks up with what is likely Sunny’s heartbeat as he desperately reaches for the water’s surface as water begins to fill his mouth. This has got to be one of the best if not the best soundtrack in the game, and that’s only accentuated by the fact that it technically isn’t even in the game.
