I have come across a glitch that pertains xbox 360 players. when in world dancefloor, if you come across a duet, if you are Jazzy(green) or Crazy(red) the game shows you as the corresponding coach, but the coach you follow is actually the coach you didn't pick.
To avoid the confusion with who you follow, plays as Happy(blue) or Funky(purple) to avoid the mix-up.
Please note that once the glitch happens, it will stay as long as you are playing the game, even in local play. Hope this helps! :)
