Txs for the clarification. I’m a beginner with so much love and believe for this particular sport and I’m trying to get around of this monitor while I’m enjoying this great gym equipment that lot of people don’t get to touch but I’ve been lucky enough to get closer and closer to understand it. Txs again.

I am new to rowing in general and the Concept 2 Rower in particular. Too bad there was not more time focusing on seeing what she was actually doing with the monitor versus watching her sit there and just explain how the monitor worked. An up close step-by-step demonstration of what buttons to use to achieve the desired end game would have been more beneficial.

I laugh when I hear any of this from anyone. I'm into REAL rowing... as on a lake... a slow stead rowing that is satisfying and tiring only toward the end. Following through on every stroke such that I engage all the muscles necessary to row with oars is such a satisfying thing... away from all monitors and interruptions of concentration. Such a beautiful thing if you do it riight. You will feel as though you are gliding on the lake in a serene setting. moving with each cycle. No wonder many people give up with all the incredibly negative instructions they get from people who do not understand a word of what I'm saying. Using the rowing machine can remove you from the negative impact of life. Of course you'll want to ramp up the settings as you master the setting you start with, but that takes a while. Use the setting of water until you master it completely before you use a higher setting. But the higher setting experience should give you the same serene feeling that you are moving on a lake. It's all in the head, together with the movement of the body. Gymnasts don't seem to get that. My rowing machine takes me out of the hustle and bustle of a fast paced world into a serene and enjoyable experience on an imaginary lake (when I can't get to my cabin on the lake) as my body masters the machine. As I said, it's all in the sychronization of the mind and body. For that I don't need any monitors. And it's not like I don't care about losing weight or building muscle. That happens automatically if you continue to use the rowing machine. Don't over think it... just do it and capture that rhythm that puts you at the sweet spot.

So I just got my rower yesterday. Because you mentioned the split was how long it takes to do 500 meters. I made my goal this morning to just do 500 meters while focusing on technique. What kind of distances should a beginner shoot for just a basic workout.
