I am a Gujarati and have tremendous respect for Maharashtra and her poets, saints, artists and thinkers (not to forget the cricketers also). Some of them have contributed hugely to Gujarati literature and academics. Like someone else has mentioned, I also grew up hearing this song on "Bombay A" radio station in the happier times when radio ruled the roost. I salute the poet, the singers and the music composer for this melodious number. Fortunately, I even enjoy the wordings of Marathi. I love the way the singers pronounce the word "Ghanashyam" as in Gujarati we do not pronounce it so well! - Rajesh Bhat.

actually hindi or marathi or telugu r very similar in root words as they r inspired from sanskrit, ....it is just that bollywood is occupied by muslim writers, who use urdu or arabic worrds, hence it sounds ugly
Marathi is a beautifully language as long as you don’t hear Mumbaikar’s ( except Marathi areas) speaking.

Ee paata vinutunte, naaku childhood gnyapakam ochindi. I'm from Bombay and we spoke Marathi at home but we are 4th generation Telugu speakers and my mom was actually from Warangal. This is one of my all time favorite songs, original was sung by Lata Mangeshkar from the movie Amar Bhupali and music was by late Vasant Desai who was an old family friend of ours. He passed away in a tragic elevator accident in 1977 or 1978, was regarded as the greatest music director ever other than the late Ga Di Madgulkar Sudhir Phadke.

As an young boy,this was my favourite song in late 50's broadcasted by Akashavani,Bangalore. The lyrics was in kannada version, which I used to sing as and when I feel like!
