@AaZed Ridiculous. Dramatic mezzos have voices that have a low tessitura and a very dark timbre. They sit just above contralto. Fedora Barbieri in opera. Whitney’s natural timbre was bright, soft and girly. Her modifying her tone (lower larynx, raised soft palate and retracted tongue) does not make her a lower voice. Her tone even with those modifications is quite feminine and typical of a soprano. But her tessitura in the approach she uses is a dead giveaway…

My guess has always been that she didn’t rehearse or communicate. I’m sure she never asked for background singers. She assumed her management would do everything. But she thought wrong 🤷🏿♂️

Apparently she agreed to sing the song but didn’t know it well and they didn’t have her cue cards close enough for her to see, and her backup singers didn’t come out at the right time. Those holiday specials, especially the live ones, are often thrown together pretty last minute.

Fun fact: Yma Sumac had a 5 octaves vocal range which is almost as wide as Mariah Carey's who was 5 octaves and 2 semitones live, they are one of the few artits with a range wider than 4.5 octaves that can actually use it in a healthy, unstrained way and qctually sing unlike Georgia Brown who reaches notes as high as G10 but can't really carry a tune, she doesnt have enough control or breath support. Minnie Ripperton of course a pioneer, she had a higher tesitura and great control bur Mimi and Yma outdid her on low notes and Mariahs runs are more complex she is. A bit more profficient and knows how to work it inte her music regardless of te era but we need to always remeber Minnie was AMAZING. Btw Yma is a direct descendant of the last Incan emperor and she expanded her range trying to imitate the sounds of the Amazonian forest when she was a child, she was never properly trained, refined yes but not officially trained that why her most representative songs dont have lyrics and is more like sounds like birds or insects. If I were Paul McCartney I would've asked Mariah to sing as well. Her voice is such a treat always and its unbelievable she is singing on top of all of those artists and the crowd, she is not using notes too different, not even a different register or octave, she is simply tilting her Cricoid cartilage to bring a bigger and stable sound without adding lower or higher harmonics as to not overwhelm the overall sound. She is simply being a brilliant musician as always. She says that she loves when people appreciate her overdubs in her music because she is always proud of them and she got to improvise new ones here.

Her voice is so weightless and girly compared to a bigger sounding soprano like dramatic soprano that can sound like contralto and tenor down there lmao
@@DereBear Jojo’s lows are nice hut they’re nothing crazy if you research singers of the past. Vivian Reed who is a pure soprano has a big unmiked C3. Mary Martin as a light lyric voice has an easy B2. And both of them have more quality at any point in their low range than Jojo. This is just two examples. There’s many singers like this.
And fourth octave? What? Her belts aren’t even that strong lol. If they were as strong as I don’t know.. Vikki Carr’s (who is a soprano) then I’d be like ‘mayhe you’re right’. But Jojo’s voice is really not that strong. The low standards of today’s music make you think that her voice is stronger than it is. A fine singer though, but a soprano.
