  • A great couple of days spent on the Tarkine / takanya coastline in North West Tasmania exploring the wild splendour that the area offers.
On day 1 we visited Arthur River, Lady Kathleen Beach and Couta Rocks, camping the night at Camp Elsewhere at Temma. There are a number of campsites in the area which come with a small fee ($6 for where we stayed) that can be paid at the Parks and Wildlife office at Arthur River. There are some restrictions that vary with each campsite so it's worth making a phone call to PWS to check prior to visiting.
On day 2 we walked from the start of the Sandy Cape track to Eva Point. I mentioned in the video that we intended to walk the Sandy Cape track but the route we actually took was an old track along the shoreline ending at Darty's Corner which was far more scenic (although private for vehicular access). From there we followed our noses to Eva Point, getting a glimpse of the pristine Hazard Bay before heading back. The presence of Tasmania's original inhabitants, who lived in this area for many thousands of years prior to European arrival, was unmistakable with many middens along the shore line which added to the sense of timelessness in this rugged part of the world.
As with any trip to this region of Tasmania, finding a weather window is important as it rains a lot and also gets extremely windy with the Roaring Forties trade winds frequently blasting the coast line. This is a part of the world where civilisation kind of peters out so you should prepare accordingly.

Thanks Merilyn. We were lucky to get good lighting conditions which helps but with all the colours and interesting rocks, it’s hard to take a bad shot!
