I swear...
I could watch Peart drum all day long and not even get bored at all.
He's a freaking drumming god.
MADE IN CANADA!!!
Many times I listen to Rush albums drums only
Neil peart. Playing fills that arent even human. Freaking incredible
Rest in peace :(
The best drummer that has ever and will ever exist.
Franklin Hernandez the best there was
The best there is
And the best there will ever be
He was the first and an original, but there are many out there who learned under his virtual tutelage and are almost as good the Drummer of All Too Human comes to mind.
With respect..........the line of succession of greatest drummer came to Neil on Sept. 25 1980 with the passing of John Bonham.
I heard Ringo Starr was very under rated.
@@Mike-fi3yl - Is your last name Mexicano?
Thank you for everything Neil.
Such beautiful, everlasting music.
God. I could watch Neil's take on every song he ever wrote for Rush in a video like this.
Neil made drumming an art. Fantastic.
By far the GREATEST DRUMMER of all time!!
John Bonham?
@John Alarcon My comment was a statement of opinion, not fact. There is no way to determine who the best was. I always find it amusing how geezers think Bonham was some drum God. He was definitely way above average, but in no way was he close to the best drummer out there. Youre right about Buddy Rich though. That guy was a freak! 😁👍
No - I never get tired of watching his work!
My favorite drummer at one of my favorite places on earth; Zabriskie Point in Death Valley. I've stood exactly where he is and it is where time stands still.
I was just there on my BMW 1200 GS last January and have a photo from the exact same spot. I followed many of the same roads he did with the same bike. He was and continues to be a massive inspiration to me. I will miss his travel writings as much as his music. One of the worlds true geniuses.
That’s cool......kinda........I’m curious as to why you went there......to the same place.............on the same spot and marked the occasion with a photo??? It just sounds kinda strange or borderline creepy. Neil was a master drummer but he was, after all, no better a person than you or anyone else for that matter. It’s cool to recognize people for their amazing talent but that’s where it should end.
@@apieceofdirt4681 I lived and worked in Death Valley in 1976-77, a few years before I was a Rush fan. I didn't mean to imply that Neil Peart inspired the visit. I had been there many times as a 'local' and that spot is the visitor overlook and that viewpoint is widely known. By the way, I was there when Star Wars used the area below Zabriskie Point, a place known as Golden Canyon, to film some of the Wookie scenes. No one had any idea that Star Wars would turn into the huge franchise it is today. I witnessed some filming that turned out to be historic. At the time it seemed like a low-budget Sci-Fi movie being made on a shoestring. Zabriskie Point was also the title of foreign film from the late 60s I'd seen that used this area extensively for location shooting, so Zabriskie Point was known to me long before I'd ever heard of Rush.
@@justinfontaine9953 Hi Justin. Please see my reply to "apiece of dirt', (an unfortunate handle).
What trail do you take to stand where he did?
Neil sure does love Death Valley. Passed him once there a few years back.
Man that’d be so awesome to have seen him cruising around on his bike! RIP NEIL
His drumming is amazing, but it is also so interesting to hear him speak. Something about his vocal cadence is so unique, and he is very knowledgeable. Such a cool person, it's sad he is gone.
Just bought and watched "Taking Center Stage" from Hudson Music. For any Neil Peart fan this is absolutely required viewing. It is awesome. 3 full DVD's. Go to the Hudson website and buy it. "a gift beyond price, almost free".
One of my favorite percussionists (along with Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Ginger Baker and Keith Moon). A true artist. A great soul who's been thought a lot. Heaven keep NP and RUSH - Forever.
Great scene with NeiLPeart in the middle mountains.
OMG that was wonderful. God bless Neil Peart! RIP
not only the best drummer ever, but one very intelligent individual. The more interviews and things i read about him the more impressed i am. RIP Professor and thank you for your music.
All time greatest
RIP your fans will miss you 😪😪
R.I.P. mr. Peart...G.O.A.T😓
What a huge loss to us drummers. I really miss Neil Peart. Incredible man.
Neil, The Greatest of all time!
We did land on the moon, and Neil, and crew can breath oxygen on it! Amazing!
There's always one random song when I go to a concert (that I don't expect) that sticks with me... for the first leg of the time machine tour Time Stand Still is that song.
I just love him.
Me too! I don't know anything about drums, I'm a guitarist but I could watch Neil play and listen to him talk about Rush's music all day. This dvd combined with the Time Machine tour dvd will total about 10 hours of awesome stuff to enjoy this fall while Rush is in the studio recording Clockwork Angels! I'm in Rush heaven right now.
How dare you tease us with this Neil snippet. Knowledge is greater than profit.
RIP Neil 🌷♥️
Tks for all Neil, RIP.
LOVE IT!!! I can't wait for this release!!!!
This DVD is going to be so great!
God bless him..
I think he’s referring to ‘Fly on the Windshield’ from the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Sean Bayat - yes.
I wonder if it wasnt Down and Out off "and then there were three"
Christopher Smith I guess that you are right - Fly on a windshield doesn’t have that. Either Down and Out with the insane opening or It could have been Dodo, too which has a Flam Fill in it that comes Phillike unexpected
RIP NEIL....te extrañaremos mucho....un genio!
No...He's beyond human...
It's Neil. Don't question his godliness.
Best rush song... ever!
Brian May turned me on to the Guitar, but it was Neil that almost made me give it up and switch to the drums! - I had no idea that percussion could have such emotion behind it.
RIP LOVELY IMMORTAL DRUMMER!
:51to 59 Neil Pratt in a nutshell.
His dedication was such an inspiration to me over the years.

"A Farewell to a King"
😭😭😭
Okay, now that Neil is "retiring" from touring, we need to redo all this with the beautiful new cameras they have, that can shoot at high frame rates, to capture all of the nuance of his playing. ;)
Neil will probably never give an interview again, sadly. And he sure as hell won’t play drums on camera.
The Master!!!!
"All In A Mouse's Night" perhaps from the Wind & Wuthering album.
I prefer the pinstripe remo heads I also tried those remo heads years ago they were a blue color a fatter wet sound but I went back to pinstripe also can't find those translucent blue heads anymore.love ya Neil
The Time Stand Still full drum cam video has been taken down for some reason. Bummer I must have watched it at least 50 times.
Mooorrreee!!!!!!
Morri!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an awesome story and leave it to Neil lol
The professor
The Genesis fill he's referring to is most likely the opening to Down and Out.
No timbale fills on that, and was recorded in Switzerland, not London.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We slowed the tape down for that \m/
I’m going to buy this video. Is the quality better on the physical DVD or the Instant Video option?
Those Paragon cymbals have the similar 'graphics'/design as the rest of his Time Machine kit. I wonder what he did with all the equipment he was given over the years?? I know at least once, several years ago, he had a contest that he gave away at least one kit of his. I can't even imagine owning something like that of his. Even something as simple as a pair of used sticks from one of his shows. Or, hell, even a pair he used to warm-up with before a show!!!!
"Suddenly you were gone. From all the lives you left your mark upon..."
RIP, Professor.
Hahahaha Geddy's voice at the end.
happy summer solstice 2012
Wait ...could he mean the drum fill in Slippermen? !!
Before “ the Raven brings on darkness and night”?
That would be quite similar both in sound and sticking .
But , really ; Collins could play stuff like that without tapes slowing down .
He totally could--it's just triplets landing across the beat and measure. An advanced lick for us weekend warriors, but totally within Phil's skillset. More likely--and totally my speculation--that Phil wasn't in studio while the track was being mixed/mastered and the producer decided he wanted to use a fill that was on the cutting room floor. So he slowed the tape down to make it fit into the time signature of whatever piece he was dropping it into.
Some of us ride around, become more than human, yet we notice those among us who remain not human? I remain not human or so I am told?
Complex "stickings"? Interesting drumming jargon.
Look's like Neil's in better shape physically these day's.
They're not tuned low? I think they're tuned perfect
@xxxx15us ahahah Im a guitarist too and I could listen to Neil read me the dictionary! Check out his books theyre awesome.
This guy isn't Human, he probably doesn't like to hear that but i wouldn't say it if it wasn't true either way can't wait to see them in Manchester NH for the Clockwork Angels Tour in Sept!!!!!
Por isso Nearl é o melhor batera do mundo!!!
Huh?
Era!
Neil
kool but what genesis song is he talking about ????
@InfinityEnterprises : I know you believe this . . but one set of heads last the whole tour . . save any broken ones. He knows how to strike the drum. JLR
😢
He said they "slowed the tape down" for the genesis track. Didnt he mean sped up?
slowing the tape while recording results in speeded up playing at normal speed at playback
Thanks. Do you know what genesis track he spoke about?
Don't know why he sings that part high. I always thought it was lower on the studio version.
What genesis song was taking about?
I wonder what genesis record those triplets were on....no one heer knows wich one rite. if someone does id like 2 no
I agree... I love ya, Neil, but come on- Phil was a monster back then.
What song was he talking abt from genesis
I could be wrong
The DW shells he has used I have never enjoyed as much as the Slingerland's, Tama's and Ludwigs.
Same here . Every DW kit was progressively better it seems . Resonant , full , warm , musical etc . But they have never been recorded to have the same attack as the Tama's . And I don't think they would be able to be . I would like to hear either Tama kit ( but especially the red ones ) or the Black Slingerlands recorded with modern equipment . Neil's approach changed too . he still hit hard as hell , but I am not sure he was laying the stick across the rims ( on toms ) like he did when younger . The way he hit the drums ( his attack ( had a lot to do with how they ended up sounding on record . And of course the tuning .
Cool he references Phil Collins, an earlier progrock drumming genius
Neil would admire some of the drumcorps that rudimentary play almost these partials to exact tee
its mix of flammed huertas/ Swiss army triplets
Anyone know which Genesis song that may be ? I also don't get it ? they '' slowed '' the tape down ? Sped up .... maybe ?
Matthew Vega they had that section of the tape playing at, let's say, 7IPS (inches per section) when they were actually recording the track, then sped it up to the full 15IPS.
Smurfman256 Thanks man . Makes sense now . Any idea which Genesis song he refers to ? I have no clue ...
Matthew Vega I am guessing Cinema Show...?
I'm pretty sure it's one of the background fills in I Know What I Like. You can hear some background triplets happening right before the first verse.
1984 singkes
@NerfLad I simply don't believe that story. I've seen Phil many times Live from 78' on and have seen countless older videos from 69 on and there is no way he couldn't play those in his sleep. Either the engineer was telling a tall tale or Peart is playing them slower than what he heard on the recording (would be nice to know the exact song he's talking about).
He was a big influence on me many years ago but I don't see him playing anything that isn't human in that preview.
Rob801
Agreed and seconded!!
I don’t believe that story.. maybe not because of Peart is lying but it is simply not fitting to Phils ability to play real fast stuff. Brand X? Hello ? He sounds like Cobham there.
There is something not plausible about this story.
those are remo heads
I have never been a fan of his tunings in general. He is one of my favorite players, but I take the sound of Mick Fleetwood's or Gavin Harrison's toms and Bill Bruford's snare over Pearts any day.
@cclibronegro like some ww2 museum transcended
Hey, that's Tom Hanks!
Those aren't that complex. Single stroke with flams: Flam RR Flam RR etc.; RLR, RLR, Flam, etc. The rhythm is tricky, though.
...and the timing. His sticking feels unnatural to me too--my temptation is to play them as ratamacues: rrL, rrL, rrL, rL
You guys can play them how you like on YOUR record.
Easy Lover I think the track was by genesis
Easy lover is not a genesis song.
But you have to know?
I guess preference doesn't exist in drumming anymore

dance on a volcano human
Uh...not to hurt anyone's feelings but we all know neil was losing his hearing. With that said, did anyone bother to tell him that his paragons sounded like garbage?! I'm just curious. THAT sound blew his Zildjians "off their stands"??? I just don't hear it...and apparently neither did he. Just sayin'....
First of all, the timbale fills are not triplets, they are 16th note ruffs, as a couple people have pointed out. Watch any Peart instructional video and he calls anything with 3 notes a triplet. Hilarious. Secondly, I find it impossible to believe that they would slow anything that minuscule down in the studio, especially for someone like Collins, who was wicked back in the day and had the hands to certainly play it. I call bull...
***** Don't worry about him. He know's better. Then again he's a nobody on youtube who's inferiority complex has brought him to pick at minor points. Also, watch the video. Not ruffs, Fast triplets. Ruff is llR or Rll. the sticking for the second fill (which if i am correct is the one that duke is referring to) RLR which he does three times. Depending on where you place beat 1 it could be a ruff. To wrap up, become a better drummer than Peart then you can act like a pedantic little shit over things you think you know.
Agree with you they don't seem all that hard especially for Peart to pull off. It seems like everything Rush did is now being picked at with a microscope nowadays.
Nathan: Well regardless of the sticking, I'm pretty sure the rhythm itself is not a triplet. Compare the first fill to the second fill. The first fill has a triplet, the second has 3 sets of 3 notes, but they're 16th (or maybe 32nd) notes. That being said, none of this really matters that much.
You're correct it's not technically a triplet. It's a group of 3 though, so even expert drummers might colloquially call it a triplet even if the notes aren't in triple meter.
The timbale fill is comprised of a combination of 8th and 16th note triplets. Not a single non-triplet 16th note in sight. I'm afraid in this instance you, my Georgeous Duke friend, are the bullshitter.
I guess my opinions don't exist anymore either.
WEAK! Shoulda finished the song!
Neil playing fills that arent even man made
Oh, come on. I don't buy that at all.
I swear.......
I’ll never understand why the hell Neil played those crappy sounding DW drums!
