On your broken hitch, have your blacksmith make a longer pin with a threaded end. Use a oversize washer/plate and nut instead of a weld.
wasn't there supposed to be a thick coil spring around the shaft
The rod should extend far enough through the back side so you can put a good size spring on the shaft with a washer and threaded end with a nut and cotter pin
Get ahold of Leg Arms from Welkers and see if he will lathe you a new, stronger hitch for the green monster. That'd be a cool collab!
For those of us that know about the snow storm that Larson Farms will get after this video was made. 😮
Ice age.
Wisconsin farms grow rocks unless they are in the driftless region because of the glaciers.
I picked so many rocks as a kid.
We used a hay wagon and drove it up and down the fields.
Need to make a rock boat for those big rocks. Take a piece of flat steel sheet, 1/2" or 3/4" thick, roll one side up a little and cut 2 holes in it to connect a chain. Roll big rocks on it and drag it to its final resting spot and roll it off. Faster and won't gouge up the field.
That was the first tractor driving job I got when I was a kid, hook the Massey 44 to our rock boat and drive around in low gear from rock to rock with my brother and lever them onto the rock boat, take to rock pile and lever them off. We used a sheet of boiler steel from the Monon RR shops (had a relative who was a boilermaker there).
We had about a 6' x 14' Stone boat we used the moldboard plow shins welded to the bottom of the front to keep the upright curve. Stay safe, Tim
Might want to consider hiring someone with a portable rock crusher to crush the rocks and use them for your driveways or area for your equipment to park on instead of weeds and dirt. My opinion, great videos as usual, keep them coming!
At the mill i worked at we had a trailer tounge with similar issues… we extended the shaft and put a heavy coil spring between the frame and the welded flange to take some of the impact. As far as i know it is still in operation a decade later
I’m not saying what I’ve buried over the years Just smile a lot 😀😀😀😀😀
Well this is nice to have a video today. I am in a hotel in Toronto Ontario and find out Olivia Rorigo is in the same hotel. Some teenagers running around looking for her. I thought I saw the Big Swed in a crop top in one of the hallways. Lol.
My daughter’s going to that concert tomorrow. (She’s not one of the ones running around)
Oh shit - Maybe it was Him!😱
🤔BS's not in much & this was shot last week?!
Sorry Big-Swede🤣
@@WokeFokeMinnesotaNiceBSChet’s videos are about 2 weeks behind
So it’s him. I will have to go and find him. Lol.
Blah Toronto 😅😅😂😂 couldn't pay me enough to live there!! Worked there over 25 years.. that was enough!! Bad enough I live a hour away
. . . I was waiting for Brody to start singing, "I am a rock, I am an island . . ."
Chet, you could have dugout a ramp back to the pile to back the trailer into and then push the rocks you can’t lift into it.. Sometimes you have to think like an Egyptian .
I was thinking explosives (more fun), but I like your idea as well.
Expanding demolition grout. Breaks down rock to more manageable size. Great work guys.
Someone watches demolition Dave the Aussie on CZcams lol
Doesn't everybody?@@TheGamingmidnightsun
@@gragor11 hell yeah
First though I had.
lol when your talking about winter in spring. And that storm that hit this weekend. You called it
it happens every year, you can set you clock by it almost. either during the MN state high school hockey or basketball tournament a 10+ inch snow. every year and every year I have my snowblower summerized. You would think I would have learned but nope - haha.
Appreciate you Chet!!! Thanks for the content, An a big thanks to those who help make Larson Farm's ❤🎉🎉
There is a big difference between a big rock pile and a pile of big rocks!
I think what you meant to say was a big pile of big rocks LOL
Big nuts and a huge compression spring to take the shock loads. 7:08
A great video! I never thought I would see the day that those rocks were removed, many were placed there by me with a bucket, hayrack and an A John Deere with a trip bucket.
.
That rock pile was huge. Thank god for the excavator to load that pile. The big rocks are good for carving your name it and planting it in the middle of your yard, for a rock garden.
The theme for rock pile moving should be Arlo Guthrie's Alices Restaurant.
Thank You for Sharing your “rocky story” !! Awesome !! H.
Drill holes in the big rocks and get the expandable foam made for cracking rocks and make all those big ones so much smaller.
Make little landscape rocks. Perfect for Lakeshore lining.
Drill a little hole in the boulder, add ANFO and a little bit of Dynamite to light it off, drape a blasting mat and initiate the BOOM.💥
New video = therapy and relax :)
All best from Europe, Poland! :D I've seen ALL videos :)
I love this channel. Chet is a super star.
Yes, Chet, you're right about the weather
Thanks for another great video Chet.
It was interesting and enjoyable.
That massive rock pile got moved by you and Brody in good time. You did it quicker than I thought you would.
Good idea to drag those big ones to the tree grove instead of digging a hole. Frost in the ground anyway.
Looks a lot better with that rock pile gone. Nice job done.
I agree with you on the rock trailer. Let a blacksmith shop redo the tongue hitch so it will not break again. Time to fix it once and for all. Good idea Chet.
Looks like all the projects got done for the day. Good going chet and crew. Good bunch of guys. Good teamwork.
Thanks for everything. You all take care and be safe.
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
No frost here now or if at all this year.
You should Pin the Hitch thru the Pipe!
If Chet only knew what was coming when he filmed this. 😂
Send Them Down To Illinois, They're Selling For $125 - $150 Per Ton, For All The Different Sizes!!! Great Video Guy's!!!! Later!!
Trucking eats it all.
Skeleton bucket is awesome for those clean ups, i have one for my skid steer
Nice video as always.. if ya want a good grease remover it’s called goop. I had bicycle chain oil on my biking pants and used goop on the stain let it set for a couple of days then wash as normal. Works great!
I love goop. It's hard to find sometimes
Chet, you could use rubber mats to cover the tires on your trailer. Like those rubber mats for the bed of your pickup. Thanks for taking us along!
I think it is the same material your talking about - being this is in MN and there is hockey rink somewhere close, stop by the rink and see when/if they are going to redo the floor. they will usually give you the old rubber mats that skaters walk on that works great for shop mats, truck beds, mud flaps etc. if your a cheapo like me - haha.
The Larson Farms Rockhounds! All those huge boulders in Minnesota! Caused by a meteor Were there dinosaurs in Correll? Sixty-six million years ago, dinosaurs had the ultimate bad farming day. With a devastating asteroid impact, a reign that had lasted 180 million years was abruptly ended. The dinosaur-killing meteor crash threw huge amounts of debris and rocks into the air and caused massive tidal waves to wash over parts of the American continents. There is also evidence from that point in history that Minnesota farming became the classic trouble bus. Love UR videos!
The glacier pushed them down there from Canada during the ice age.
Ice age did Wisconsin in for the rocks unless your in the driftless region which didn't get hit by the glaciers in southwestern Wisconsin
Thanks for the new video!!
Who else is ready to go go go
Check with Haynesworth farms in New York and see what they do for the hitch. They build those dump carts.
Thank you Chet Eric Broodie great job loved it thank you for sharing and your time was really great never miss a video and can't wait for next video
Jordan too
On those big boulders I worked for a very large earthmoving company we have 90 ton excavators and big d9 dozers we found a boulder the excavator had a hard time digging out and couldn’t load it in a articulated dump trucks so we got a few steel plates and torched holes in it to put cables through and made it like a drag for pulling deer out of the woods and moved the boulders that way
My Grandpa used a stone boat & I used to help him push, drag, pry, roll all kinds of rocks on there. We have a lot of slews with hill sides so all you do is drive alongside the top of the hill & they would slide off. Most hill side around here are rock covered in N central Mn lake country. Now a days lake people come knocking on the door & ask how much per truck load for the rocks in the piles, LMAO.
DougO' usually breaks the excavator when he uses it. Hmmmm. Awesome video guys.
On not having a radio, you could of sung to yourself, then again that could be a bad idea 🤣🤣🤣.
🚜🚜🚜
It’s still amazing to me that there is a non stop supply of rocks growing on your farm!
As you collect more and more large rocks, you can build "Stone Larson" a tribute to "Stonehenge" ...
Those were some huge rocks. Heavy ones. Good job guys. 👍❤️
Anyway to cut the tube and weld a piece of steel that looks like a hold down bracket. Great fun video again as always
Wow cleaned up really nice!
Nice day for rock picking.
What we often did when removing boulders to big to lift onto the truck is we dug a trench to back the truck into. Then slid the rock onto the truck. Great fun watching you guys. Often the trucks front wheels would leave the ground. Older truck. But, did the job
great video guys.. awesome job guys
Along with welding the hitch, you can also drill and put a large pin from one side to the other.
Well regardless of the snow that is to come, that was a hard job that has been on Chet's mind for so long. At least that has been written off the To Do list and added to the done list! Now to button up for the snow (that they don't know about yet). Thanks for the pre view of what is to come this year, Brodie and Chet working together like a well oiled machine. Good on you. From UK.
You guys seem to have a lot of fun which is good to see, keep it up.
In a previous video you said you were going to move a rock pile. Where I live the field rocks are smaller than a basketball.
Those rocks are HUGE
you could make a monument from those big rocks and call it dougo-hinge
Great video keep up the work
@Chet, unbolt the recoil on the trailer engine and rotate it counterclockwise 180 degrees, might make pull starting easier;-)
Just buy auto start for it cheap and easy to do
You could make a new Stonehenge monument with those big rocks.
great video
another great video
Well job done excavating removing rocks out of field . I put those big rocks right in front of the pond. I agree what winter we had that was baby winter . We maybe in for a really bad start on planting for 2024.
the metal you are trying to weld is heavier than the metal you are trying to weld it to so you are not getting it hot enough you need to use the torch at the same time to heat up everything to where it is glowing be safe god bless keep up the great work
Could it have been an idea to relocate the rocks into the pond?
Dougo needs a couple of the big rocks in his yard
It's Amy's yard...Dougo just gets to tidy it up!?!🫢🤣🙃🙂🙃😆🍦🇺🇸
You need one of those rock rakes
I'd want to build a road if I had a pile like that lol
We have a way to drill holes and inject an expanding epoxy for the big rocks if needed.
Chet, on all our lowboys we put old rubber Conveyor Belts that we have to replace because they had been spliced 2 times but there's still 120' feet that's usable, but not for stacking gravel over that tire span. I have some I'd be willing to drive out to ya!!
I really enjoy watching you guys - seems silly but oh well
Dougo might need them big rocks for his house landscaping projects. Maybe dump them rocks in lake to run the boat over this summer !!! Lol
ROCK ON!!!👍👍👍
Keep the Rocks 🪨 & Throw the Rock Hauler away 😊👍
Chet it must be cool to operate heavy construction equipment
Chet, im convinced that you have to thread that dump cart hitch with a bigaz bolt
Love it
I’m excited to see what you do with the dump cart, they take a beating, look at the rock trucks in my area of the sheyenne river diversion in North Dakota 😊
Larson Farms❤❤❤❤
Even with your own equipment
Still an expensive rock pile.
I think I would have left alone.
To each there own and its your farm and money.
Take care guys and stay safe !!!
That’s a lot of rocks over the years!
That rock was huge
I hope you get a bang for the year to make up for falling prices.
kind of surprised you don't have a jackhammer attachment to break up them big rocks
Chet, I think you need a machined pin with 2” of material sticking out on the end toward the dump wagon so it’s all one piece
I am one of those guys who likes huge boulders in his landscape. In Central Illinois. We just have $16,000 per acre black dirt fields. Whenever I drive up to Mayo‘s at Rochester Minnesota and get into the more rocky areas of northern Iowa and such I have dreams about some of their boulders.
Nice erratics (the rocks) from when that area was under the ice sheet during the ice ages…
WOW that hitch is a real pain. If you need to move big rocks like that again one could dig a hole and back the dump wagon in and slide the rock in the dump wagon then fill the hole lots of work but it could be done
Take it easy picking up those boulders Chet, drop one on the excavator and dent it D so Dougo might get mad!😂 Bolt a big log chain or cable to one and use it to make drainage furrows in the fields…🤷♂️
winter is still coming
I bet ICWeld on youtube can fix that hitch; he's a master at torching \ welding stuff. I'm a retired HiTech consultant\design guru and I'm impressed at your approach to team working and problem analysis - data informs all! Before watching your channel I had no idea how much work went into an 'out in the sticks' US farm, especially machine maintenance; truly expensive. I hope all the machine manufacturers are taking notes of your observations for future designs, e.g. track mud traps and those horrendous digger bearing housings - I would get a local fab shop to remake those digger arms with thicker bearing sleeves so they don't crack up. Also invest in some working at height safety gear - a simple belt and self retracting line with quick clip hook is cheaper than the cost of falling off a bin or ladder :o)
Maybe leave the big ones, call it Farmhenge and charge admission. Might net better than corn or beans... 😉
Chet you should also move your big rocks and then walk up on the pile and it will be easier to work.
Drill holes in them, fill the holes with black powder and duck!
That's what my grandfather did 100+ years ago.
Build the hitch longer and put a large spring the gets compressed when you pull into it I might take some of the hard slam on off the weld
Watching the video I think your hitch broke between when Brody came in the field where you unloaded the excavator and the rock pile. It looked still connected when you unloaded the excavator.
Chet lookup Montana Rock works in Kalispell, Montana. They own 7 Rock Quarries there and they sell all over the Country. They also like Moss covered Rocks.
You Gotta love these videos
You could have that rock ground up to use as gravel for drive ways.
Chet use an old draper belt over the tires on the trailer LEAAD used one seems to work ok
Chet, dougo 😊
Drill some holes and use ANFO to blow that big rock apart!
Drill some pins through the shaft and the sleeve like hitch pins on a truck. That way your not depending on welds to hold all the load.
Chet I think that you could back the excavator onto your lower and drag the rock up the ramps onto the deck
You could also push the rock up the ramps.o'to.the deck with a dozer. That rock is big but not too big.
There is a easy method to load and move the monsters. Your farm has all the equiptment needed.
