Love my T-1, one of my top purchases ever.
It's pretty great!
Thanks for this, Stephen. Getting started with a fresh idea worth pursuing is often a challenge for me. This sounds like the kind of thing that I could really benefit from.
Yeah sometimes my motivation and creativity is low, and finding that initial spark is what's needed to generate a bigger wave of ideas - so I feel ye!
I felt this. Overcoming the inertia of that blank slate is tough for me a lot of the time.
I went to their site out of curiosity- I am, after all, a serial collector of h/w sequencers (which I will list if you want! 😂 but includes notrons etcetera), but lately I've been trying to cut down, & dig into the deluge more. I don't use a lot of cv/gate stuff. for sampling & whatnot, I have blackboxes & a GR-1.... this latter, I wanted to use it as a granular live looper but I've never quite wrestled the UI into doing what I want.
so.
over on torso's site.... I think he was about twenty or so words into defining the S4 before I pre-ordered it. these look like good people. 🤟
Oh nice! The S4 does look pretty wild, though I haven't tried it out myself yet!!
This and the OXI One are the best sequencers available right now
Also the hapax and circlon. These 4 are in league of their own. My final choice was oxi likewise.
@@tolikfilter lol I’ve been on circlon waiting list for what seems Ike an eternity….. Five12 Vector is pretty clever as well but yea, I think Oxi One is my current fav
I'm really hoping that the Reliq can bring a good game out here this year
I'll need to check out the OXI One at some point... It looks similar to my Hapax though.
Oh and the Deluge
Great review, thank you. I’ve been looking at these, and now I’ll be better prepared once it comes in to my rig!
Glad it was useful!
Got one too in February. Learning curve was steep in the beginning as not used to such workflow but am starting to like it more and more. Read the manual for t his one. To do step by step editing for notes use ctrl + pulse step you want to edit, then pitch. (Took me a while to figure that one out)
Whoah that's a top tip! Thanks for pointing it out. :D
Had one on the shelf for 6 months...time to give it a whirl! Ta. And loved the “on the look out for gear” upnose shot 😂
HEY DONT LOOK UP MY NOSE NOW
After listening to Kurzweil for some 30 years or so about the VAST synth, I finally bought in last year. Turns out it is a modular synthesizer with up to 32 modules configured in series or/and parallel all with their own effects and completely flexible in order of patching together. Then you can layer these complete patches up to 16 deep with other patches. Now they have added 8 operator FM to the module list 100% compatible with DX7 old patches. So, this new workstation/controller is my new modular for this year. Includes arpeggiators for each and step sequencers and CC sequencers too. And it is a piano with 88 weighted keys.
I love that the pads flash but I wish they’d also flash whilst muted. Sometimes I forget what’s on what track and I can’t see it on the muted tracks.
my T-1 def one of my favourite purchases i’ve ever made
High praise!
I too love sequencers and a big reason I almost had to go Eurorack/modular is because I prefer sequencers which separate gates/triggers from note and velocity. Outside of 303 clones not many synths outside of modular VCOs even allow for that kind of sequencing
Right, yeah. Good point!
loved the into tune at the start of this,, nice... looks a fairly interesting thing as well...
Thanks! I particularly like it for coming up with melodies on the fly when my brain doesn't want to brain.
It was a really interesting sequencer... I returned mine unfortunately... The amount of time it took me to get something interesting mostly led to more frustration over experimentation... I see people making some lovely sounds with them though... It was a last minute GAS purchase for me after the OXI one was delayed... Great demo though... I wish it synced better for my workflows... Seems like it has a lot of potential...
Thanks for watching! It can take a bit of time to play about with and get the goods, but it has surprised me. I need to get a hold of an OXI One...
@@StephenMcLeod i feel the OXI is more advanced but also controllable in a sense... I feel everyone's work flow is different... I love dabbling in generative realms but sometimes it's also good to have more control of the chaos haha... All lovely well-made devices overall...
Yeahhh I hear you. My main sequencer for controllability is the Hapax!@@iamYork_
@@StephenMcLeod that's been on my radar too... I put a freeze on hardware purchases for 2024... I havnt released an album or even any official songs in about 20 years... I love playing around with new equipment but i think GAS got me bad in 2023... Need to have my outputs match the amount of dusty hardware that has been filling the lab... haha...
Hi Stephen, happy holidays.. I've been away for a bit releasing singles since October. I'm REALLY happy that companies are partnering up with you. When it comes to synths, you are the channel that should be doing reviews on them because you show everything up front.. as in real facts... Brilliant. Happy New Year. - Mr.Tom (BMI Inc / The MLC)
Thanks a lot MrTom! I appreciate it. :) Have a great new year when it comes. :)
Happy Greebmas and jolly boxing.
Haha great timing - ordered this two days ago. Glad I’m not alone!
One of us. One of us.
@@StephenMcLeod I haven’t received it yet, so I’m in the “have I made a mistake?” phase of new gear acquisition, so your vid made me feel better. 🙏🏼
I have been considering this sequencer. It looks fun, but I wish it had a screen. I am afraid that I will get frustrated and forget the different key combinations.
I hear you. It's actually not bad though, because each function (or most of them) are listed underneath the respective knobs.
@StephenMcLeod Thanks for the response! Today, I use Stepic to do similar things, but Ableton 12 will have generative functions, and since I have Push 3, I should be able to do it there.
It’s surprising easy for a machine without a screen. The whole interface is really simple considering how deep it is.
Check out the Oxi One if you haven't yet.... IT fills many of the same bills and has a screen for the necessaries! i was on the fence about the T1 vs. the Oxi, but after a bunch of research, the Oxi really wins hands down in my opinion, as ITs deep feature list begins to leave the T1 a bit in the dust.... T1 is great for simplicity and focus, a la Circuit Tracks, but the Oxi is really ticking all my overall boxes 😍🤙🌌
You're not the first to suggest this! I'll see if I can check one out.
I ended up buying both of them, and they really make a great team!
@@ASkillz82 Exactly...the T-1 is far easier to get some results that are melodic but generative while the Oxi is the spread sheet you want to make precise inputs.
@@ArguZ72 They're a match made in heaven, together they've opened up a lot of doors for me! I checked out your posted videos - are you my long lost brother?! A drone & synth enthusiast!
11:18 tremendous jam!! love it!!
Thank you!!
I paired my T-1 with a CV.OCD and it works like a charm.
Sounds like a sweet pairing
👀 This thing is so cool! I think I'm gonna buy one of these now too! lol A couple sick lil jams in here to man, hope you had an awesome Hogmanay!! 🤘🐀
They are pretty cool! Hogmanay was acceptable. Hope you had a blast!!
very informative review
Glad it was useful!
I'm a Californian so I am so poor I use a thiunkpad 11e with BespokeSynth for everything which is like eurorack but since its open source and free its perfect for the destitute composer.
Ah never heard of this program, that's a neat older program! I'm guessing you've tried VCV 2.0 but didn't have the processing power/storage then?
It's also open-source, free (and premium version avail), as well as an open virtual module dev building environment & plenty official virtual ports of real life hardware eurorack modules!
Are all Californians poor?!
@StephenMcLeod 99% are poor and 1% are extremely well off
@@StephenMcLeoddepends on where in California you live but for a barebones 300-ish sqft studio in most of San Francisco you’re looking at minimum $2000USD/month on rent before utilities and such. You’re either rich or poor here, there is no in-between
San Francisco is a bit of an outlier, no? It's famously incredibly expensive.@@RileyGein
Rad Sir!
I hadn’t heard of this. Cool.
I tried to resist it for the longest time...
This could replace my modular: But it won't
I want one but it's priced 2x what it should be. Any software that comes close out there?
Gear is generally expensive, and people's budgets vary, though the T1 is a boutique product from an independent manufacturer, so I'm not sure half the price is realistic. In terms of software... I'm more of a hardware person, so I don't have a clue!
i believe you can change all the cv outs to gates through the t1 config
That'd be handy for drum triggering.
Did you try the oxi one? Cause you don’t name it in term of similar devices.. thanks for the vid with your opinions✊🏻
I haven't, no. I'll need to try get a hold of one!
What are your thoughts after testing the oxi one? I ask at your oxi vid but i don‘t get an answer 🙃 keep going stephen☄️
Btw each cycle can get 64 step
So I hear!
t-1 is great! its been so much fun sequencing my hardware.
It is a really cool thing!
@@StephenMcLeod it’s an different workflow but I’ve found making chords quite fun finally. I’m not musically trained
Them's fighting words🤨😤
Lol honestly, I never heard of this one since I shut down my eye wandering due to the gaseous concerns 🙃
I must confess to trying to avoid the wandering eye, but I also fail.
@@StephenMcLeod I imagine it's SO much harder to avoid it with the CZcams channel! 🤯😱
Nice shirt. Happy new year.
Slint!!
@@StephenMcLeod ???
The tshirt!@@sidefish8362
@@StephenMcLeod I meant the green lumber shirt, really nice.
@sidefish8362 ah oops!
Will subscribe just for the English pronunciation!)))))
My secret weapon.
Flat Eric approves this video
The highest of praise.
MIDI over 1/8th cable is handier than 5 pin DIN.
It would be if they had been able to agree on a standard earlier on. Now we are stuck with a bunch of devices that use Type A, and Type B, with no clear marker on the device or the adapters. It's a nightmare!
I haven't had any incompatible devices yet, in all my little machines. I would guess many more are A, than B. @@StephenMcLeod
Blasphemer
Updates are the Antichrist!
They are. I refuse to upgrade, until I am FORCED into it.
@@StephenMcLeod Thanks for the great content & continued success in 2024
He got a name and no more friends?!

Audio seems out of sync with the video on your talking to camera sections, just an fyi
What timestamp? It's recorded direct to camera so that's not possible.
@StephenMcLeod huh I've just rewatched and it now seems fine??? Must have been a CZcams player glitch rather than something on your end, mb!
Phew! You had me re-watching going whaaaaa@@totallycarbon2106
@@StephenMcLeod sorry! 😅
A track can be 64 steps, not 16.
With cycles. I did explain that I believe.
@@StephenMcLeod 7:40. Each track can be 16 steps long, but each track can be 64 steps long. With 16 cycles that’s 1024 steps.
@danpreston564 even better!
@@StephenMcLeod ctrl + steps to move past the 16 step barrier!
Not that I’ve found I need to yet because the phrases and the random all play out over longer periods anyway.
I don’t get it with this one.
Me or the t1
@@StephenMcLeod The T1. I have the Torso S4 on preorder, should be here next week. Now that is something I can clearly see a use for. I think the style of work I produce is not entirely electronic, which is probably why I don’t see a use for it myself, although it’s obviously a very capable machine.
Looks nice, but already have the squarp pyramid.
The Pyramid is a beauty
Your glasses seem like they fall and then squeeze your nose shut. I wonder if you could benefit from a lighter wire frame or frameless and a rectangle lens that cuts weight.
no thank you

Great advice
I think they look awesome!!! 😊
