Younger analysts who developed and adopted the WAR metric favored Altuve in a close race, whereas James didn't think it was close at all. Reminded me of when Andre Dawson won the NL MVP over Ozzie Smith 30 years earlier and James voiced his objections. Only, this time, James wasn't the newcomer, and try as he might to avoid it, it came across as the oldtimer bashing the upstarts. He knew he was in a no-win position but I'm glad he spoke out. Yet this panel featuring the elder statesman and the next generation came across as more than a civil discussion: I sensed mutual respect and was reminded of James' hope that sabermetrics/analytics would be dominated by more cooperative and less competitive personalities. I think for the most part, that's the case. We all agree that the numbers don't tell the whole story; that money doesn't have to divide us; that we all love the game.

I don’t understand why bill is such a stickler about the salary thing. He vaguely invokes the negative effects of income inequality but by that line of thought wouldn’t it be better that more money flows from the billionaire owners into the hands of the players?
Their is no perfect science to sports their are rules to be followed and then checks and balances to in force those rules... From their naturally fall outs Will occur because we live in an imperfect world... How fast the player is Is irrelevant in the moment did the player get the stolen base so many factors? I want to hear them talk about the WAR stat in depth.
