  • Created by 'Grant' in the 1980's and enjoyed by young and old alike. Shut down by the people who didn't want anyone to take any risks.
    They haven't shut down surfing, racing, hang gliding, parachuting and mountain climbing and the like yet!

    How often do you see Middle aged people having just as much fun as the kids. Oh the sweet memories of this wonderful place.

    The spinning top that tilted all directions on a single pivot point was hectic af when the deck was loaded with kids all using their bodyweight to increase momentum. I saw kids thrown from deck land 5 metres away, so awesome.

    Lived in Barmera and spent many hours of my childhood there...some of the best days of my life!!! The best place to be as a kid! Before the public liability and sue them and screw them generation!! What a shame...kids these days have been robbed of this amazing extreme playground for kids and adults alike!

    We used to go here every holiday. Monash Playground was so awesome you didn't really mind the burns, sprains, contusions and abrasions.

    took the drive from Adelaide as a kid a few times late 70's early 80's. it was like some sort of gladiator death pit, there'd always be an injury of some sort. zero shade, hot, dusty and some lord of the flies vibe going on with packs of kids/teenagers flinging themselves about. so.. yeah, it was awesome.

      It really was amazing fun. There was extreme danger to be had, but also lots of just fun (non-life threatening) equipment to play on. Those spinning metal things were the single best piece of play equipment ever - they moved a couple out to St Kilda at one pt, but ultimately they vanished, due to their potential to hurt people. I always loved them because the spin depended on how many older boys or adults were involved in the spinning.

    Can't believe this place still exists. This was one of my favourite places we went to as kids. The guy who built this was an amazing human being.

    We lived in Renmark until I was about 6 in the early 90's and Monash was amazing over the years we went there and we went lots. Sure a bunch of the things had some danger and some had minimal or no danger, but that's the same with any play equipment and if you fall off and it isn't that serious or anything, you have a quick cry (as a young kid) and after mum says you're all good, you go back on it all again.
    Not worth going to now, it gets no attention from me now, it is so boring there.

    This was in the good 'ol days before the "cotton wool" generation came along and everyone started suing everybody else for not taking responsibility for themselves. I badly wanted an excuse to go to Monash so I organised my young brother and three of his friends to come with me since I was "taking them out for the day". I thought that having 4 ten year olds would be a perfect cover. To my astonishment I noticed that the majority of the "children" playing there were guys between the ages of 15 to 30 years old! (I was 20 at the time). I was a great day and I think I enjoyed it more than the kids.

    I remember putting the coins in the slot at the top of the tower to hear them make the journey down to the bottom. I also remember the blisters on my hands from trying to slow down as I rode one of the slides on a sack. To me it was either blisters or a bad landing. Good times!

    My daughter and I were there in 1984 mid summer. Whew. I can't remember the huge slide (slippery-dip). No way would you get me on that. Found an old photo and couldn't remember where it was. Thanks for the video. Absolutely fabulous
    Great experience. Love the new Monash. All I can remember was red dirt and no shade, but we didn't care 'cause we had such fun. Cheers

      Yep--it's great to see adults joining in the fun. Too often now we are mere child activity facilitators, and do nothing fun ourselves.

    This is looks awesome to play on. Some of the play equipments, I never seen here in America. We might have them, depends where you live, what playground people go to, here in America. 1980’s playground was fun.

    • @nevyn_karres
      @nevyn_karres Před 2 lety +2

      All the equipment was dreamed up by one old engineering dude, who wanted to attract tourist to the local area. He did attract lots of tourists, it was ever so much fun. The danger made it even more fun. Boring things could be pushed to dangerous levels and true fear could be felt, but overall it was just an amazing playground.

    I remember the drive from Adelaide to Monash was about 3 hours. I first heard about it when it was advertised on TV as an "adult's playground" and decided to take the long drive there and check it out. For some reason I don't remember much about it - perhaps I fell off the flying fox and landed on my head.

    I was there when an ambulance turned up to tend to an injured teen. On the big monkey rope things they had, with a platform at each end, the teens were adding a person each time it swung back and forth onto the rope. Of course one of the teens fell off and smashed his head, I'm guessing they ended up suing.

    • @nevyn_karres
      @nevyn_karres Před 2 lety

      The "kid adding" part is so on point, the whole playground had the option to push any equipment to the dangerous level. I tried so damn hard to get those huge rocking giraffes to tip, but never quite made it.
