Dream Theater - The Twelve Step Suite

- Also known as the Alcoholics Anonymous Suite or the Twelve Step Saga is a collection of 5 @dreamtheaterofficial songs taken from albums Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Train of Thought, Octavarium, Systematic Chaos, and Black Clouds & Silver Linings. The Suite tells the story of a hero dealing with his alcohol addiction and going through the twelve-step program. The main writer of this saga was Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater's drummer and songwriter. I edited the songs together and made transitions between them that sounded good to me. I also prepared a fan-made cover art which you can download with the mp3 of the suite: drive.google.com/file/d/1tiyq...

#DreamTheater - Hudba
With Portnoy back, they can finally play the whole 12 step suite.
Exactly
⅛⅜⅞!
First thing I thought when i’ve seen him coming back
Almost an hour playing such a complex and demanding music without pausing is the sure path for an injury, and the guys are not teenagers...I Hope they play this live, but for sure it will have breaks
He’s not sober anymore I doubt they are gonna play it
948 days.. to anyone on the journey, KEEP going! A day at a time! Thanks DT for the support!
Happy to be 399 days clean and sober today
2304 days for me 😀 And I'm super happy for it
Congratulations! 465 days.
I have over 18 years and the thing I have to remember that's more important is today if I stay clean it's over today I have a chance for tomorrow , stay in the process , the serenity prayer is a blessing for us to have . 👍✌️😃👣
now 718 days 😁
@@RimRimTim well done, keep going man.
I am achieving 6 months clean... I always come here and listen to this masterpiece to recharge myself with a sobriety spirit
Дорогу осилит идущий! Я уже более 20 лет не бухаю...И я не один, вместе со мной их рехаба выходил мой друг. Все эти годы мы дружим...и не бухаем...
They really shoud release this as its own 'album' cause it's a perfect telling of someone dealing with addiction. Having the entire story combined like this on one CD would be amazing.
Something for the band to consider should they decide to remaster the entire catalog. I'm sure Portnoy and the band would work together with regards to reasonable royalties, as the "Suite" is really an incredible piece of art.
It tells the story of my partners stuggle over 20 years thankfully shes now recovered ,one day at a time 👍
I made a playlist on iTunes years ago and still listen to it
Debateable if they would since it's pretty personal to Portnoy''s struggles but if they agreed to it that would be cool.
Portnoy just rejoined the band, and I think a twelve step suite album would be the perfect way to reintroduce him!
19 months Clean&Sober here... neck-deep in Step 8 inventory
The Mirror From Awake Is The Prequel For The 12 Step Suite Because The Mirror Talks About Portnoy's Issue's With Stuff
Yea but he's done the 12 step program after scenes from a memory
ー」、
There are some parts on the suite that remains to The Mirror intro riff and some lyrics as well
What the present DT is missing is really simple-Mike Portnoy. No disrespect to MM but Portnoy’s writing and ideas was an integral part of their work
I'm afraid you're right. The latest albums didn't touch me, the sound isn't my piece of cake. Of course it's a matter of taste.
Ive to say you are right
Yeah, they are not the same band without Portnoy. I stopped "buying" (who buys music anymore" after MP left.
he also had a kind of dynamic that Mangini simply does not have. Mangini is a beast in his own right, but for Dream Theater it is necessary that the drummer has a very very keen sense of dynamic, so that the music does not sound robotic. Portnoy distinguishes himself incredibly in this regard, which is why their albums untill around 2010 sounded really musical, despite being very complex and tricky in terms of time signatures and melody. It's exactly because of Portnoy's uniqueness. That and other things obviously
in some respects, yes, you are right. Its kind of like a quartet who is singing a song, and you change out one of the singers with someone who is unique in their own way. I honestly think the biggest change in their sound came after Kevin Moore left. Kevin's playing was more ethereal than either Jordan or Derek. While, as others have said, MM fills the drummer role nicely, its not the same...signature...that we would have if Mike had stayed. i would hope that they would one day bring Portnoy back into the fold, I will enjoy the music that both sides make.
I was fortunate enough to see Mike Portnoy play this entire suite live at ProgPower USA in 2017. While it wasn't quite the same as seeing Dream Theater do those songs, it was still quite powerful as the backing ban (members of Haken) was still quite good.
I'm going tonight fuck I haven't been to fuckn concert in for ever can tell me if watain, play last nite at bayou place
Mike Lamborghini has drum solo in October 2017 has Tom Tom blast beat.
That Transition from Repentance to Shattered Fortress. Holy **** I got Goosebumps right now. Amazing work.
John and Mike should tour the world with this 🤩
John has to be careful with two of the Dream Theater guys. Probably only one.
Mike has already. thats his stuff
@@YlL-ji2sl Wait, could ya elaborate? I'm not too well versed on the situation.
@@YlL-ji2sl how's that? I'm sure there's some agreement on the rights to these songs, given that Mike toured in 2017
@@pozzowon They can play the stuff but i don‘t think that James and the other Mike would be too happy if John plays Dream Theater concerts without Dream Theater but with the former drummer and other musicians.
Hey NICE! The transition from Repentence to The Shattered Fortress is very cool! Very nice.
...
This is 56 minutes of the best music you will hear on ANY album, also the best music Mike wrote and played on ❤❤❤❤❤
The best that I've done was to create a Playlist in Spotify with the 12 step suite...lol... But I was hoping to find someone who take it to another level. Good job man. Well done... The transitions... Oohh... Great Great job. Thanks ❤️🤘
Agree. I go as far as creating the same playlist on my iPod :)
you have to be youtube premium

The Glass Prison is just a masterpiece. I had no clue it would turn into this back then when 6DOIT was out.
17:01 being reprised during Root of All Evil was a literal jaw-dropping moment when I realised, agh this entire suite is so good ;;;;
Been following DT since they were Majesty.About this all I can say is WOW. JUST WOW. Thank you!
No problem!
Since Majesty? You're the OG fan...
I'm with you brother
Hands down the best hour of music I have ever heard! Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!
I'm so glad somebody finally made a seamless version of the suite. This is my go-to way to listen to these songs, and honestly I wish DT had put more thought into the beginning and endings of these tracks knowing full well they were meant to be played one after the other. The artwork is really cool too. If I was to give a minor critique, it would be the abrupt transition from Dying Soul into Root. The ending section of Dying Soul is pretty relentless, but it ends with the exact same floor tom pattern and guitar chord that Root begins with. This offers an opportunity for a brief break in the intensity rather than jumping right into the next section. But I do realize the drum and guitar part of Root's opening is a considerably slower tempo than Dying Soul so stitching them together would probably be a challenge.

I never thought I would enjoy the whole suite. I felt songs were way too intense to be strung together. I thought it would be exhausting. Yet, here I am proven wrong! Though it is exhausting, it’s a good kind of exhausting. Like you’ve been trough some major challenge (such as overcoming addiction) and came out on top, tired but stronger than ever.
As an alcoholic, working the 2 Steps is a *BIG* deal. It’s a massive overhaul of your entire life, and it’s scary as shit every step of the way but so worth it in the end.
Excelentes variaciones ritmicas, Armonias irregulares , Musica con caracter fresco y limpio de alta complejidad, un placer oirlos!!!
10 Years! And I didnt even know what The Glass Prison was about, when I heard the song first. The moment I understood, it blew my freakin mind so hard. DT Forever!
When I first heard the Glass Prison, I was a teen who was just beginning to drink.
Mike Portnoy is great....Bringing utility to music and help the ones who must know the steps!!!
He deserted. Deserters not good. Mike Mangini is many folds better especially the way the band has been heading. Happy coincidence maybe
@@naveentiku3106 Magini turn the band into sh#t. Anything you want to know more?
@@naveentiku3106 Mangini is just a fast and technical knocker. Portnoy is a musician.
@@WaldemarPaskwal portnoy is just a good composer, everything else Mangini does better.
so there are 5 songs on 5 consecutive albums, which are each one a piece of a story ? wow ,that is somerhing 😁👍
Das gehört meiner Meinung nach auf Vinyl gepresst und so schnell wie möglich in die Regale der besten Record Stores dieser Welt. Einfach nur genial👏✊👍👏✊👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And now, Portnoy is back 🥺
Hellyeah!!! They finally play the whole 12 step suite.
Excellent recording quality! DT is always amazing! No one even comes close to their technical expertise as an iconic group!
I'm a friend of Jimmy K. and i love DT. thx
Man! What a cool bottle
Portnoy is back, baybee!
That's what i call prog for sure ! I like it a lot ! Great job
"The Mirror" is the first part of teh suit. Also, excellent work. Thanks.
Magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!
I've been wanting to hear this. Thank you so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome
Nice work! I was a little annoyed by the intro tbh, but the transitions between Root of all Evil and Repentance, and then Repentance to Fortress are really fucking juicy.
Thanks! I agree, I'm not really happy with how the intro turned out but I kinda wanted to over-do it. I'm glad you enjoyed the other transitions though!
@@GordonProductions Well at least you went for it! It’s a really cool idea on paper because it really ties the whole thing together. I think I’m just too emotionally attached to the original intro of the glass prison ;)
This. This right here. This is how the internet should be. Two people talking like human beings.
@@rodrigohaussmann7503 Totally! Such a wholesome discussion about an amazing piece of art
I love it. First time someone really understands how the songs need to be tied together. I especially like the Repentance to Fortress transition. It’s not obvious how it should work, but you pulled it off really well!
Just got done playing along with this version on my guitar. Thanks for the transitions man, they make things much more convenient
Good job man thanks
This music helped get me sober, amazing work on this video!!
Oh the pain, anger, frustration, remorse and euphoria of Living "Life by the Drop." I might have found this compilation at exactly the right time.
You did an absolutely fenomenal job my friend, thank you...
great work!
Portnoy, the only guy bringing awareness to this awful disease. FUCK ALCOHOL
beer goes hard
Alcohol ain’t our issue.
We alcoholics have a *thinking* problem - not a drinking problem.
We need a new album with this, everything re-recorded and with Mike on vocals.
Just Wonderful!
Great job, love it!!!
So cool, thanks!
Great!!!!!!!!!!!
John Petrucci's "Rock the Barrel" is so smooth....
Awesome job! A real peace of art! Well done pal
Love this!!!
I love this band dt

From one to another - you are not alone.

Pure art
Intro and Outro Bass solo.
Still get chills from this
OUTSTANDING WORK BROTHER!
Great work my friend! Every transitions are seamless. Thats an amazing achievement! Props to you 🤘🏻.
I’d like however to point out a tiny inconsistency most people won’t even hear, but which may be of interest to you.
Ok, so, the pattern that actually starts This Dying Soul should be merged with the last bar of The Glass Prison. I have no idea how to clearly explain this with words but I’ll do my best.
Fortunately, both TGP’s last bar and TDS’s first are in the same and easy time signature: 4/4.
In TDS, the first hit you hear is not played on beat 1. It starts off on beat 2 and the pattern resolved on beat 1 of the second bar.
Explained in words, the pattern is this:
~Bar 1~
Beat 1: 1/4 rest
Beat 2: 1/8 note-1/8 note
Beat 3: 1/8 rest, 1/8 note
Beat 4: 1/8 note, 1/8 rest
~Bar 2~
Beat 1: Boom, the band gets going.
Knowing this, listen to the end of TGP again, and pay special attention to what the guitar plays, both the rythm and the chords.
Right, if you isolate the guitar, the last 2 bars of the song are exactly the same. Starting on beat 2 of the first bar, the guitar goes:
4/4 |…|1/4 rest, 1/8 1/8,-1/8 1/8, 1/4 |…
|1 , 2 , 3 , 4 |1
Hope you managed to find some clarity in my message. Anyhow, great work!!!
Peace.
I had been listening to it when I dealed with emotional addiction that I had two times and both of them it really helped. The songs hits different when you can relate to lyrics
Ótimo trabalho, ficou muito bom.
did anyone notice on the start of the glass prison, there was another song playing at background. sounded like the song 'the root of all evil' intro
To the creator of this: you, sir, managed to get an already masterpiece level work, and elevate it to something god level.
"The mirror" is the prequel of that sequence.
He just didn't know ,or forgot to add "The mirror".
Listening to this a propos of Portnoy's return to the band. That's a fun edit, kudos!
Excellent idea - a 56:01 new masterpiece lol - add the mirror from awake and it would be perfect
The mirror isn’t part of the suite though . Yea I know it’s about the same subject
Geweldige band echt genieten😊😊
I really like the spectrograph!
5 days sober. This last spree was almost the end... Alcoholism is hell
Awesome. Magini dan Portnoy
Grande
All of chapter start of letter R
Very very good
This is important to me. Why did I not know about this? I blame you. Thank you in advance.
bellísima obra, es asombroso.

Along my gin and beers I'm ready to hear this suitecita.
