  • Come check out how I clean the interior of this Vintage Gucci Accessories Collection Bag! I bought this off of Poshmark for a great deal, but it does need a little bit of TLC to make it usable. The interior color is flaking and shedding all over my hands and my SLGs! My cleaning process is very simple - just a toothbrush and a vacuum. No specials tools required! Come check out how to clean and rehab this vintage handbag.

    I have a black version of a Sherry print Gucci bag, where the interior would have once been a vinyl black interior. Over the years, the vinyl part of the lining has disintegrated and literally cracked &crumbled, leaving an unsightly grey fuzz fabric. I was conscious of the light gray as it was visible and aged the bag, despite the exterior being almost mint condition.
    After some research, I decided to purchase super opaque acrylic artist’s paint ( N.B. NOT ARTIST’S OIL PAINT)
    Acrylic dries in under an hour and is bendy/pliable, applies and adheres well to fabric. It is tough and durable once dried, unlike shoe colour paint that seems to disappear and crumble too, after a few weeks.
    The good thing is that Artist’s quality ( not student quality) acrylic paint comes in a vast array of colours that is far more opaque than student’s quality. It would be good for this feature bag.
    I usually apply two coats as the first coat gets absorbed in the fabric. The second coat stiffens the lining a bit more.
    Be sure to scrub and hoover the lining of its original crumble dust etc.
    The finish looks good. 🙂

    I had the same problem with my old (vintage) Gucci bag. I actually washed the interior lining by flipping it out like you did. It still felt powdery, so I lined it with a small cloth bag.

    I got an Italian leather duffle free yesterday because the interior was flaking. I brought it home and hung it up and washed with the best shower stream I could muster. Its drying in the sun now. I was trying not to get water inside the bag and didn't quit succeed. I wish I had at least started by vacuuming. I had no idea it was just a cotton cloth below underneath underneath

    My bag was cracking and peeling really bad. I was able to remove it with a sticky tape lint roller and duct tape. I didn’t want to destroy my vacuum cleaner but the duct tape does the job 😉

      Yes, duct tape does the job! I used it to remove the ugly sticky lining on my LV bucket bag.

      Can I also do this step w the lint roller for spews inside the bag?

    Btw, I wrap the back in cling film and just pull out the interior to paint it (lest there be any accidents!)

    Thanks for sharing. I have just done this to my vintage Gucci. How is your lining wearing a year later? Is it weaker or still in good condition?

    Do you think this would work on a vintage Gucci bag that is navy blue inside?

    • @MeticulousShopper
      @MeticulousShopper  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! I have done this with my mom's vintage Gucci that's navy blue!

    How can i stop the flaking and powdery?

    Has anyone tried to re-paint the lining with acrylic paint? I was wondering how quickly the light fleece got dirty and if it was weaker and prone to rips or holes after the coating removal. I have a gorgeous blue Accessories Collection micro GG bag with a blue lining that pulls completely out like yours. I can't find any videos or blogs or info any The Purse Forum, etc., but I'm itching to give it a try. (Maybe if it was a great idea to do this, there would be videos about it. LOL) Are the re-sale values lowered of the Gucci and LV bags that have their peeling lining removed? I've seen a few videos that used a product used called something like, "ooey gooey louis" that's made to remove the LV peeling lining. It seems a bit messier than this way, though.

    Does anyone know why they resorted to this incredibly crappy liner in the first place?

    • @MeticulousShopper
      @MeticulousShopper  Před rokem

      These were their low end line so it might just be cost saving!

    What is the actual stuff that you were brushing off? So basically you’re just taking it down to the Lair underneath. What is the layer underneath that you were exposing?

    • @MeticulousShopper
      @MeticulousShopper  Před 4 lety

      I'm pretty sure I'm removing the pigment in the fabric and exposing the raw fabric underneath. I don't know if that raw fabric is cotton or some kind of polyester.

    What touch up paint do you recommend for the scuffs?

    • @MeticulousShopper
      @MeticulousShopper  Před 4 lety

      I honestly don't know! I'd check out a leather shop or cobbler in your area and see what they recommend for touch ups. Sorry I can't be of more help!

      No touch up paint (per se). Use liquid shoe dye/polish. I use it and it works fine for scuffs and the piping.💖

    Do I leave the fuzzy on or remove them? I use a razer to remove piling from my clothes. Is it safe for this as well?
