The best rendition of this jewel ever. All singers are just stunning in their roles and maestro Abbado's conduction is hard to surpass. True rossinian singing as we don't hear anymore. A shame it has not been released on DVD. Bravissimi tutti.
This is indeed a jewel but I am bit lost with this production - what are the point of the baths, for example? The singing is extraordinary but I can see several of the soloists were in the original Abbado production, which is still the one for me - I have both the CD and the video and they are equally stunning.
@@andrewvincenti2664 Yes, the production is odd, but the singing is glorious. We do not find singing of such quality anymore these days. I have the CD, but unfortunately cannot find the video. I would love to have it as well, so I have to make do with the CZcams presentation. Regards.

Cecilia Gasdia as Corinna was far better in 1988 in this same production. There is a video on CZcams showing that. Her voice fuller with none of the weird howling and trail offs of sound. Unfortunately this was the sound in the commercial recording sold of this fantastic opera in 1984.

There must....MUST be a better private recording than this!? Does anyone have any information or leads into this? I am determined to find an absolute astonishing live recording of this very performance! Thank you in advance! I will pay gladly for a solid recording that is top quality for the Live first premiere recording concert of this last absolute Italian masterwork of the one and only master Rossini!....it is so tragic and sad to me that the recording quality of this very premiere performance of A Reims is decent at best!.... One can hear the high volume output being limited compressed it is horrible!

Superb Ramey whose incredible coloraturas and range are unique in this century in low male voice. He stops the show.
