      Bought it and after 4 full days, I hated it. Its just of bunch sub attacks thrown at you endlessly. And with the mod, (forgot the name) you can stop all the sub attacks and it's still a ridiculous amount of attacks on your fleets until you lack ammo and try to head home for repairs,.. it's very difficult to take the islands when you just hit repeatedly and going home of repairs and ammo.. The game looks great and was exciting until i realized it lacks any serious gameplay other than repetitious micro-managing nightmare to fight off constant attacks from out of nowhere,.., Never again Killerfish games..

      @@ijabbs143 for me, it's two-sided.
      I find it's a beautiful game with more scale and realism than any such games before, but at the same time I find myself reluctant to play it anymore. Somehow it feels tiresome and endless. Like the total war games.
      Sometimes I even find myself playing empire earth instead of these bigger games :-D
      Of course they're superior in most imaginable ways, but sometimes people just don't have the energy for them .
      Same goes for Graviteam Tactics Mius Front and Steel Division 2.
      Beautiful games, but somehow I'm too tired for them recently

      @@ijabbs143 but I don't know what people are saying about submarine attacks all the time. I had more battles against ships than against submarines.
      Maybe because people put their task forces into one areas and don't move them?
      And I didn't find it that difficult. I managed to have most battles approx 5:3 in my favour, and when you use pause all the time and micromanage, then you can destroy the Japanese task forces of 2CA+2CL+2DD with just one DD lost or one CL damaged.
      But the thing is the micromanaging really gets tiresome after some time

    With the planes in formation:
    It's actually explained in the tutorial. When you want them to attack in formation, you have to tell them manually (giving orders to the formation leader) to drop their bombs, torpedoes etc.
    When you want them to break formation and attack individually (useful for rockets) , then you do what you did : tell them to "attack the target"

    This game is amazing, I just wish the devs gave it a little more attention. It feels like ages in between updates. • @Paul-NH
      @Paul-NH Před 2 lety

      @@jholbrook1826 I don't even think that that would be a problem, you could automatically stop the time when something happens or a fleet reaches its destination. There are also other games that have a time feature where it will go with the lowest speed one of the users has selected, so you can slow and pause it whenever you like.
      But yeah, the game as such is of course really long so it would be like playing your monthly match of chess or something.
      The game probably also isn't very balanced, there would be meta strategies but command point balancing and custom rulesets would probably be enough regarding that.
      But imagine being attacked by bombers, that would be really boring and the bomber player could just manually fly every plane (maybe a rule like "only automatic plane attacks" would solve that? And planes would have to be hard to rearm or something. Now that I though about it; seems doable actually

    A good game, though a few interesting glitches, such as flying over the Owen stanlies, between Port Moresby and Buna, in tactical if you don’t adjust to 10,000ft straight away, your planes fly into the mountain. Another one, is if you try the torpedo evasion of putting your ship into reverse and the ship following doesn’t respond to the order and runs its mate in front over, capsizing and sinking it.

    War on the Sea definitely has a potential, and as someone who's had for quite some while it's a good game. However, I wouldn't really recommend buying the game in any real rush, and it's mainly due to how the AI in the game is. Saying that, I'm completely confident that it will be sorted and fixed later down the line. I also have some complaints about some other Misch. stuff, but I would say the reason behind that it probably because kind of want more substantial logistics and because of my liking of a game called War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition which really goes in depth in the Pacific Theater.

    This is one of my favorite games. It has its flaws, but I had a lot fun in my campaign. I started with a pre-patch IJN campaign. Some of the memorable things that happened.
    1. Started with a Battlegroup centered around Hiei. Almost lost her to air attacks on her first sortie.
    2. Maya and Atago are still torpedo-magnets even in-game, both received torpedo hits from submarine ambushes.
    3. Sinking the unsinkable "Gray Ghost" with attack aircraft from Shokaku and Zuikaku, exacting revenge for the Akagi.
    4. Sinking the USN Wasp with submarine just like in real life.
    5. True to the Japanese propensity of undersupplying their troops, I made the mistake of invading Milne Bay without adequate supplies, losing half of my landing forces.
    6. Conducting a night bombardment of Port Moresby with the entire Battlecruiser Division 3 (all of the Kongos) and Cruiser Division 6
    7. Winning the campaign while having lost more aircraft than what the Japanese lost during the entire Guadalcanal campaign.

    one annoying bug that annoys the crap out of me is if you send out planes to attack, and than you go to tactial when their like 100 miles out, if there were any hostile units naerby like planes, they will spawn on any ships in the area other than where their suppose to be. Also writing this after the update that made it so points mainly came through islands captured instead of ships sunk, and they nerfed the crap out of that. Like destroyers and subs sure, makes sense. but the amount of firepower you have to go through to sink a battleships is annyoing and even than you only get like 5 now. Sinking a battleship needs higher points simply because of the risk. Also, whos great idea was it to not rearm planes anymore. Like it makes sense overall on other islands cause why would they have spare planes, but why cant we refuel at new herbides. Also Also, they need to make it so you get men and supplies more. It takes like 2 weeks before you even have enough men you can seriously invade anywhere.

      What you get for sinking a battleship isn't just points; it's that you won't see that ship again and that it will lose your enemy many command points.
      And you can get planes back, it's just not only taking 5 seconds and the update even made the repair time shorter. Carriers were way too OP before.

    • @jholbrook1826
      @jholbrook1826 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Paul-NH they were too op. I didn’t realize repair times are shorter. However, I did realize it took two days for an unharmed carrier to come back to action. I just figured if you force carriers to go back to new herbides for refueling. No I just want like 15 points or 20 for a battleship. I had to used 9 squadrons of divebombers to sink a ise battleship. And it took me 14 torpedoes to sink a Yamato. Of course it only took that many because not all of them detonate. I just feel that setting up subs and air strikes takes a long time. And if they ever make it so they use fighters to protect their fleets, it’s going to become 10x harder to sink them.

    • @georgecoventry8441
      @georgecoventry8441 Před rokem

      The primary effective way to sink battleships is with...........torpedoes! Either from subs, other ships or aircraft, torpedoes are what take down battleships, and this was discovered in the actual war too. Bombs are far less likely to do the job, although they certainly can help. I find that a salvo of 6 torps from a sub will often sink even the USA's fast battleships, and a squadron of a dozen torpedo planes can do it too, although they will usually take heavy losses doing it. As for naval gunfire, I don't think I've yet sunk an enemy battleship that way.....too risky and too expensive! Better to just use subs and planes to take them out. It's a cheap way to dispose of a very expensive warship. Even if you lose all 12 planes, you've won a huge victory sinking a battleship or a carrier. If you can use 24 planes to do it (combining dive bombers with torpedo bombers)....even better. Bring them all in at once, from both high and low, and the flak won't be nearly as effective.

  • @JombieMann
    @JombieMann Před rokem +2

    I'm waiting for some campaign other then in the Pacific. Battles of the North Atlantic for instance?
    The Pacific war is much more about carrier and aircraft. Cool but I would prefer also to have more ship on ship battles with little or no aircraft.
    And how about battleship launched spotter planes?
    Also shore bombardment in the tactical view should be a thing instead of the combat being resolved without any view or involvement. Maybe asking to see the infantry fighting is outside the scope of the game, but shore bombardment shouldn't be that hard to implement.

    I have had this game for a while. I run both the TTE and Operation Magazine mods. You will have to go through the files and configurations and manually put some of the new planes and ships into the available list and change some dates for them so you can play them. It is not too hard to do. I have a bit over 1k in the game, playing as both the US and Jkn. There are more ships available than you can ever use but it's nice to have a chance on which ones you want to use. The Bases in the TTE mod have a sprinkling of floatplanes and fighters and bombers. But you can easily change the load out to which ever planes you want to use. I really don't care for the Floatplane offerings so I edited the files and got rid of them and gave me a better selection of fighters, bombers, and scouts. You get 4 squadrons per base. The number you get depends on your airfield rate 1-5 , TTE gives you a 24 plane per squadron option if you like.

    Does the sinking, mechanics look and feel good?

      I have to be honest the sinking mechanics could be a tad better, however it's still very satisfying to watch the ships in the game go down after you've destroyed them.

    While now relatively bug-free, this game has one major flaw and that is the absolutely dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks AI.
    Sinking the same convoy, on the same route, at the same time, quickly becomes tedious.
    Sure, you can make it harder for yourself by adjusting the "difficulty" levels, but all that amounts to is beating up a cripple with just one hand, just one finger, etc.
    What this means is that the game is getting boring very soon after learning to play it, so don't pay full price for it, but get in in a sale if it's really cheap.

      Waiting for a sale wouldn't be a bad idea at all. It usually goes for half off on those

      Yeah totally was thinking of war tales when I started this as I had just finished playing it before recording this review. Never even caught it until it was too late =(
