I love how around 12:49 Shabana - down 8-6 and overhitting the ball in frustration - takes a deep breath, goes back to his bread-and-butter gentle immaculate rails, and seizes control of the match.
Ridiculously hard job to ref this fifth, but did an amazing job. Such a tense game only to end in the most hilarious fashion

Apparently referees have been instructed to make calls so as to push professional players to play the ball and refrain from asking for too many lets. It seems that the only problem is that they didn't do it more forcefully at the beginning stages of the match, and thus Momen got upset when they started to make more such calls in the 5th.

Rules need to be changed. No matter how tight the ball hugs the wall in the front on a drop shot the point should always be awarded to the opponent if the one making the shot blocks access to it. Professional players have very little trouble scraping the balls off the wall. Even at the front of the court. They should be given access to the ball instead of losing the point because their opponent made a tight shot but then blocked the other from accessing it.
Momen was hanging over the ball most of the match in the tight situations, I'm surprised that Shabana wasn't awarded more strokes...... beligerent interfering play sometimes from Momen, Amr won in the end.
Why was that an let on 4-3 and not an stroke? Shabama was ready to hit the ball but was obstructed by Momen
I'm here from the future - shocking to see Momen looking for his opponent so much, especially against someone like Shabana who was well known for his own sportsmanship. Glad he doesn't play like that anymore. Also, tons of Let decisions in the front/mid court that would be given mainly as Strokes in 2022 - I would say some rightly and some wrongly.

Seemed like TM was aiming for those cheap points instead of playing the game and AS was clearly extremely frustrated

momen played squash the complete wrong way in my opinion constantly arguing and looking for the man
not the best squash, very tense last game.
Momen. Negative play. Constant appealing. Impeding the line to the ball. Shabana started to get under his skin
This abusive use of lets is wrecking the game, and will ensure it never becomes an olympic sport.
poor show by commentator and ref. tarek has smaller built, but does not mean he has to snake around shabana. tarek deserve better than bias view
The difference is that he is not expected to snake around, its just that half of the calls had no to little interference at all.

Played today (2022) and there would be less ‘lets’ and more penalty stroke and or no let’s, they want the
players to go through and play the ball.
